
Never use the plasterer’s light for anything other
than its intended purpose. If it will not do what you
want, assume you have the wrong equipment for the
job. Contact your local HSS Hire Shop for advice.
Never expose the equipment to excessive
moisture, dust or dangerous/corrosive chemicals.
Keep the equipment clean. You will find this less of a
chore if you clean it regularly, rather than wait until the
end of the hire period.
Handle the equipment with care. Never over-tighten
or cross-thread thumbscrews and fittings and remember
that even site lighting contains delicate bulbs and
will be damaged by rough treatment.
Always switch OFF and unplug the equipment
before making any alterations or adjustments to it.
When not in use, store the equipment somewhere
clean, dry and safe from thieves.
Having switched OFF and unplugged the light,
wait for it to cool.
Finally, neatly coil the flex ready for return to your
local HSS Hire Shop.
FINISHING OFF
EQUIPMENT CARE
Code 57413
For advice on the safety and suitability of this
equipment contact your local HSS Hire Shop.
Keep children, animals and bystanders away from
the work area.
Never use this equipment if you are ill, feeling
tired, or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
This equipment should only be used by a
competent person who has read and understood
these instructions.
Wear sensible, reasonably protective clothing
and footwear plus any safety wear
appropriate to the work in progress.
Check the condition of the equipment before use.
If it shows signs of damage or excessive wear, return it to
your local HSS Hire Shop.
Never leave the equipment switched ON and
unattended.
Lights get hot. Always leave them to cool before
touching them and never remove or interfere with any
safety guards fitted.
Never use plasterer’s lights in a dusty environment,
nor in the presence of highly inflammable vapours
or liquids.
Information on COSHH regulations is available from your
local HSS Hire Shop.
All HSS plasterer’s lights run on 110V and must be
provided with a suitable 110V generated supply, or
be powered from the mains via a suitable 110V
transformer.
Extension leads should be fully unwound and
loosely coiled, away from the work area. Never run
them through water, over sharp edges or where they
could trip someone.
Keep the equipment dry. Using electrical
equipment in very damp or wet conditions can be
dangerous.
If the equipment fails, or if its plug or lead gets
damaged, return it. Never try to repair it yourself.
Never carry or pull the equipment by its flex.
Ensure the power socket is switched OFF before
plugging into the power supply.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
GENERAL SAFETY To reduce the risk of electric shock, use a
suitable RCD (Residual Current-Operated Device)
available from your local HSS Hire Shop.
There are 2 x 110V 16A PTO (Power Take Off)
sockets on each unit, these enable the user to
power additional plasterer’s lights and/or hand
tools without the need for extension leads.
Add up the power ratings of all the plasterer’s
lights and hand tools to be supplied from the PTO’s
and make sure the total does not exceed the
capacity of the supply plug.
The MAXIMUM TOTAL power load MUST NOT
EXCEED 1700W.
If using a transformer to provide power, ensure
that the total power load is less than 75% of the
units power rating, if in doubt contact your local HSS
Hire Shop for advice.
If using a transformer for 110V supply, NEVER
connect a transformer to its power supply via an
extension lead – though you can, of course, plug
extension leads into the transformer’s socket outlets.
Position lights with care – somewhere they won’t
easily be knocked over and where they won’t dazzle
drivers, this can be as dangerous as darkness.
Swing the tube-holder into the horizontal position
and adjust the mast height and tube angle as
required – both mast and holder are secured with
thumbscrews. Then uncoil the light’s flex.
Coil excess lead neatly but loosely, close to the
power supply and away from the work area where
people can’t trip over it.

Lead RCD Transformer Supply
Siting an RCD
When used with a transformer an RCD will only
protect the user if fitted between the transformer and
the tool being used.
An RCD fitted between the power supply and the
transformer only protects up to the transformer.
All that now remains is to plug the light into its power
supply, switch ON and check that it works as it should.
In case of difficulty, contact your local HSS Hire Shop.
