To operate the scrubber only, depress the operator
presence button and squeeze the handle bar
control levers. To STOP the unit let go of the
handle bar control levers.
To activate the flow of water to the scrubber
brushes, press the Water Flow ON/OFF switch on the
handlebars. To regulate the flow of water to the
brushes, adjust the water control flow valve at the
base of the unit. To increase the rate of flow, turn the
lever anti-clockwise. DO NOT adjust the flow with
the unit running.
To activate the suction dryer press the suction
ON/OFF switch, this will draw up the water that has
been used to clean the floor and deposit in the
wastewater tank.
To clean, push the unit slowly across the floor,
make sure that the power cable does not snag on any
thing as you go and does not become a trip hazard for
yourself.
When you have reached the end of a cleaning run,
press the raise brush pedal and line up for a new run. To
lower brushes pull back on handlebars slightly,
this will disengage the pedal.
The height of the brushes can also be adjusted by
turning the brush height adjusters at the front of
the unit, be careful not to make the brush height too
low as this will cause the brushes to wear prematurely.
When the fresh water tank runs out, stop the
machine, unplug the power supply cable and
empty the wastewater tank as described in the
FINISHING OFF section and refill as described in
GETTING STARTED. Plug the unit back in and continue
cleaning.
Never use the equipment except for its intended
purpose. If it will not do what you want with reasonable
ease, assume you have the wrong tool for the job.
Contact your local HSS Hire Shop for advice.
Keep the equipment clean. You will find this less of a
chore if you clean it regularly, rather than wait until the
end of the hire period.
When not in use, store the equipment somewhere
clean, dry and safe from thieves.
When you have finished your cleaning session
switch the water and suction switches to OFF and
unplug the unit from the power supply. Remove the
wastewater bucket as described in the GETTING STARTED
section and empty the contents in a suitable drain.
Drain any excess contents of the fresh water tank
by moving the unit to a suitable drain and unclip
the fresh water tank drain tube. Point the tube at a
suitable drain and pull the rubber stop back, make sure

that the tube is level with the floor and the fresh water
will flow out of the tank. When done replace the
rubber stop and reattach the tube to the unit.
Lower the handlebars, by reversing the procedure
described in GETTING STARTED. Neatly coil the power
cable and give the unit a final clean, ready for
return to your local HSS Hire Shop.

There is a serious risk of personal injury if you do
not follow all instructions laid down in this guide.
This equipment should be used by an able bodied,
competent adult who has read and understood these
instructions. Anyone with either a temporary or permanent
disability, should seek expert advice before using it.
Keep children, animals and bystanders away from
the work area. Cordon of a NO GO area using
cones and either barriers or tape, available for hire
from your local HSS Hire Shop.
Never use this equipment if you are ill,
feeling tired, or under the influence of
alcohol or drugs.
This equipment is heavy (38kg) never attempt
to lift it on your own, always get help.
Check the equipment before use. If it shows signs of
damage or excessive wear, return it.
Watch your footing, this unit will make floor surfaces
damp and they might become slippery.
Never lift or pull the equipment by its power
supply cable.
Ensure the work area is well lit and ventilated, if in
doubt ask about lighting and ventilation equipment at
your local HSS Hire Shop.
Make sure you know how to turn this unit OFF
before you start, in case you get into difficulties.
Always turn OFF the equipment when not in use.
Never leave the equipment turned ON while
unattended.
Keep cleaning equipment and chemicals out of the
reach of children and pets.
Never operate electric cleaning equipment or
electric switches with wet hands.
Never use HSS compact scrubbers to remove
asbestos and similarly dangerous dusts.
Always dispose of the waste this unit creates in a
responsible manner via a suitable mains drain.

HSS compact scrubbers are designed to plug
straight into a standard, 230V 13A power socket.
If the equipment fails, or if its power supply cable or
plug becomes damaged, return it. Never try to repair it
yourself.
Keep cables out of harm’s way, and clear of the work
area.
Extension leads should be fully unwound and
loosely coiled, away from the equipment. Never run

them through water, over sharp edges or where they
could trip someone.
To reduce the risk of electric shock, use a
suitable RCD (Residual Current-Operated Device)
available from your local HSS Hire Shop, or power the
equipment from a mains circuit with a built-in RCD.
Ensure the compact scrubber and power socket are
switched OFF before plugging into the power supply.
To set up the compact scrubber, take the unit to
the work area.
Squeeze the handle bar release lever and pull the
handle bar assembly towards you and set to an angle
that is comfortable for you to use.
Lift the top cover and raise the waste water bucket
by its handle to access the clean water filler. Raise
the filler cap and fill the fresh water tank with water, or if

required, a cleaning solution using a low foam floor-
cleaning agent. Ensure that any such solution is
mixed according to the chemical supplier’s
instructions.
DO NOT allow the fresh water tank to overfill.
Refit the wastewater bucket.
When you are ready to start cleaning, plug the
power supply cable into the mains, the unit is now
ready to use.
Before starting to clean, sweep the floor area first
and remove large objects. If objects are too large to
remove from the room, move them to one side, clean
that area and then move them again. Tie up any
curtains so that they will not obstruct the floor
cleaner.
With the area to be cleaned prepared, take the
compact scrubber to the start of the work area.
Spend a few moments planning the cleaning routine,
make sure that will not back yourself into a corner and
have to walk across a newly cleaned floor.
The compact scrubber can be used with the
scrubber only or scrubber, water and suction to
dry the cleaned area.
