SWear protective gear. Always use steel-
toed safety footwear with non-slip soles;
snug-fitting clothing; heavy-duty, non-slip
gloves; eye protection such as non-fog-
ging, vented goggles or face screen; an
approvedsafetyhardhat;andsoundbarri-
ers (ear plugs or mufflers) to protect your
hearing. Regularusersshouldhavehear-
ing checked regularly as chain saw noise
can damage hearing. Secure hair above
shoulderlength.
SKeepall parts of your body away from the
chain when the engine is running.
SKeepchildren,bystanders,and animalsa
minimumof30feet(10meters)awayfrom
the work area. Do not allow other people
or animals to be near thechain saw when
starting or operatingthe chain saw.
SDo not handle or operate a chain saw
whenyouarefatigued,ill,orupset,orifyou
have taken alcohol, drugs, or medication.
You must be in good physical condition
and mentally alert. Chain saw work is
strenuous. If you have any conditionthat
might be aggravated by strenuous work,
check withyour doctorbefore operatinga
chain saw.
SCarefullyplanyoursawingoperationinad-
vance. Donotstartcuttinguntilyouhavea
clearworkarea,securefooting,and,ifyou
are fellingtrees, a plannedretreat path.
OPERATE YOUR SAW SAFELY
SDonotoperateachainsawwithonehand.
Seriousinjuryto theoperator, helpers,by-
standersor any combinationof theseper-
sons may result from one-handedopera-
tion. A chain saw is intended for
two-handeduse.
SOperatethechainsawonlyinawell-venti-
latedoutdoorarea.
SDo not operate saw from a ladder or in a
tree.
SMakesure thechainwill notmake contact
with any object while starting the engine.
Never try to start the saw when the guide
bar is in a cut.
SDo not putpressureon thesaw at theend
of the cut. Applying pressure can cause
you to lose control when the cut is com-
pleted.
SStop the engine before setting the saw
down.
SDo not operate a chain saw that is dam-
aged, improperly adjusted, or not com-
pletely and securely assembled. Always
replace bar, chain, hand guard, or chain
brakeimmediatelyifitbecomesdamaged,
broken or is otherwiseremoved.
SWith the engine stopped, hand carry the
chainsawwiththe muffler away fromyour
body, and the guide bar and chain to the
rear, preferably covered with a scabbard.
MAINTAIN YOUR SAW IN GOOD
WORKING ORDER
SHaveallchainsawserviceperformedbya
qualifiedservicedealerwiththeexception
oftheitemslistedinthemaintenancesec-
tionofthismanual. Forexample,ifimprop-
ertoolsareusedtoremoveorholdthefly-
wheelwhenservicingtheclutch,structural
damage to the flywheel can occur and
cause the flywheelto burst.
SMake certainthe saw chain stops moving
when the throttle trigger is released. For
correction, refer to CARBURETOR AD-
JUSTMENTS.
SNever modify your saw in any way.
SKeepthehandlesdry,clean,andfreeofoil
or fuel mixture.
SWith the engine stopped, hand carry the
chainsawwiththe muffler away fromyour
body, and the guide bar and chain to the
rear, preferably covered with a guide bar
cover.
SKeep fuel and oil caps, screws, and fas-
teners securely tightened.
SUse only Husqvarnaaccessories and re-
placementparts as recommended.
HANDLE FUEL WITH CAUTION
SDo not smoke while handlingfuel or while
operatingthe saw.
SEliminateallsources of sparks or flame in
the areas where fuel is mixed or poured.
