(0.5 METER) DISTANCE BETWEEN THE SPEAKER AND ANY LISTENER.
• Listening to HyperSound Clear audio at excessive volume (e.g., volume
programmed or optimized for a person with hearing loss) can cause permanent
hearing damage. People with normal hearing should use the “Standard” or
“Bright” settings or use as low a volume as possible.
• The product and AC-DC power supply are for indoor use only and should not
be used outdoors and should not be exposed to rain or moisture.
• Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the
manufacturer’s instructions.
• Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or
other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
• Adjacent electronics or high electric fields may cause disruption to the audio
signal. If this occurs, change the location of the amplifier and/or the positioning
of the cables.
• Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched particularly at plugs,
convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the device.
• Unplug this device during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of
time.
• Do not open the chassis. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Open-
ing the chassis will void the warranty unless performed by a service center or
licensed facility.
• Do not use this device near water and clean only with a dry cloth.
• Only use power outlets that conform to the power requirements.

8
• Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when
the device has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug
is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the device, the
device has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has
been dropped.
• Since the Mains plug is used as the disconnection for the device it must remain
readily accessible and operable.

9
Cautions
• Do not spray any cleaning liquids or aerosols into the speakers.
• For the best audio experience, a listener must be at least 3 feet (1 meter) from
the speakers and ideally should be 6 to 15 feet (2 to 5 meters) away.
•
• High altitude may affect system performance and audio output. For best audio
performance only operate the system at altitudes less than 2000 meters.
• Only use attachments and accessories specified and/or sold by the manufacturer.
• Use only installation brackets specified by the manufacturer.
• Use only the supplied AC-DC power supply.
• The HyperSound speaker (emitter) should only be connected to a HyperSound
amplifier and the HyperSound amplifier should only be connected to
HyperSound speakers.
• Similar to high quality electrostatic speakers, your HyperSound speakers operate
at high voltage but with low current. In certain environmental conditions such as
high humidity or if speakers become dusty you may hear or see an occasional
spark or arc. This is a normal electrical discharge similar to static electricity and is
not dangerous.
• This apparatus is not intended for use in an active medical, hospital or
surgical environment.
• Before making any connections to the HyperSound Clear system, disconnect the
unit from the power source.
• For precise alignment of the audio beam(s), avoid placing speakers near strong
air currents such as those generated by fans or air ducts.
High humidity may affect system performance and audio output.
For best audio performance only operate the system at 10% to
80% relative humidity, non-condensing
Temperatures below 10°C or above 40°C (50°F to 104°F)
will decrease the output of the speakers and therefore it is
recommended to avoid these conditions.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
Contraindication
• The system is not intended to be used with hearing aids when there is any
acoustic feedback or any other sound artifacts. See IMPORTANT WARNING FOR
WEARERS OF HEARING AIDS above.

HYPERSOUND®TECHNOLOGY
HyperSound Clear™ 500P is an audio system intended for use as a hearing device
to communicate with a targeted listener with or without hearing loss and with or
without the use of hearing aids in order to improve clarity and speech intelligibility.
The system may be customized to patients’ hearing loss by an appropriately trained
hearing care professional.
The system performs its function by generating audible sound along an ultrasonic
beam that is highly directional and maintains sound clarity and speech intelligibility
over longer distances than traditional loudspeakers. Audio is modulated onto a
base airborne ultrasonic carrier signal in the 90 kHz range. The maximum airborne
ultrasonic emissions from an emitter are not considered hazardous and operate
at an intensity less than 145 dB (decibels) or 0.03 W/cm2 (watts per centimeter
squared) at listening distances of 18 inches (0.5 m) or more. NEVER HOLD A
SPEAKER UP TO YOUR EAR. MAINTAIN AT LEAST 18 INCHES (0.5METER)
DISTANCE BETWEEN THE SPEAKER AND ANY LISTENER. If the system is left on
for ten minutes with no audio, the ultrasound intensity is capped at 70% and after
an additional 50 minutes of no audio the system enters standby mode with no
ultrasound output.
Where conventional speakers are designed to act like a floodlight, spreading
sound broadly throughout the room, the HyperSound speaker acts like a spotlight,
“beaming” sound into a tightly focused audio zone. In this way, sound reaches the
intended listeners in a specific area with minimal disturbance to others.
Because HyperSound speakers deliver sound precisely, less volume is necessary
to deliver sound where it is needed. The HyperSound Clear solution enables you to
set up an audio zone where a person with hearing loss usually sits to watch TV. The
HyperSound speakers are directed toward that area. The listener in that area will
enjoy an enhanced level of sound while others in the room will hear the program
mainly from the standard TV or entertainment system speakers.
The volume of the HyperSound Clear system can be set independently from the
main speakers, allowing the person with hearing loss to adjust the level without
affecting sound reproduction for the other listeners.

ITEMS INCLUDED
Notes:
The optical cables are shipped with a protective plastic cap
on the ends. Remove the plastic cap before installing.
The floor stand poles are only needed if you want to place
the speakers on the floor. If you want to use floor stands see
page 30.

12
SETUP
DETERMINE THE OPTIMUM LISTENING POSITION
The HyperSound®system creates a focused audio area
where a person with hearing loss can sit to enjoy enhanced
audio. Therefore, you should select a place where the
person with hearing loss will regularly sit. The best location
is one where the HyperSound speakers can be directed
towards the listener with a clear line of sight to the listener
(nothing blocking the path). To avoid audio reflections,
the area behind the listener’s position should be free from
walls, windows, or large furniture as possible. While not a
significant problem, audio reflections may be audible to
others in the room. It is very important that nothing blocks
the beam from the speakers to the listener.
PLACE THE SYSTEM COMPONENTS
HYPERSOUND®AMPLIFIER/CONTROL UNIT
Place the HyperSound amplifier/control unit less than 6 feet
(2 meters) from the audio source(s) you want to connect
and close to AC power. Place the amplifier in the selected
location but do not plug it in yet.
HYPERSOUND®SPEAKERS
Place the HyperSound speakers on each side of the TV (if
used) and point each speaker directly at the designated
listening position. The supplied speaker cables are each
12 feet (4 meters) long, so place each speaker up to
approximately 10 feet (3 meters) from the amplifier.
Place the HyperSound speakers where they will be stable and
not easily moved. For proper operation, the speakers must
point directly at the listening position. Table and floor stands
are both included. To change the stands, see page 30.
For the best audio experience, a listener must be at least 3
feet (1 meter) from the speakers and ideally should be 6 to 15
feet away (2-5 meters).

13
SET-UP AND ALIGNMENT
STEP 1: Set-Up Location
If you have room to set the speakers on a shelf or entertainment
center, set the speakers at least 3-5 feet (1 to 2 meters) apart
on a level surface and at least 3 feet (1 meter) from the listener.
Angle the speakers slightly in toward the seating position, as
shown in the diagram.
If you are using the floor stands, place the Amplifier in a
convenient place and the speakers on each side of the TV. Angle
the speakers slightly in toward the seating position, as shown in
the diagram.

14
STEP 2: Have someone sit in the listening position.
On Page 12, you determined the optimum seating position. Have
a test listener sit in a chair at that position.
STEP 3: Angle the Speakers
HyperSound®audio is directional. This means both speakers
should be “toed in” at the same angle, as shown in the diagram
on the right. Since the fronts of the speakers are reflective,
an effective alignment technique is to sit in the designated
location and adjust the speakers until you can see your reflection
centered in each speaker.
SET-UP AND ALIGNMENT

15
Incorrect Speaker Placement
Do not position the speakers facing each other. Position the
speakers in front of intended listener.
NEVER HOLD A SPEAKER UP TO YOUR EAR. MAINTAIN
AT LEAST 18 INCHES (0.5 METER) DISTANCE BETWEEN
THE SPEAKER AND ANY LISTENER.
For the best audio experience, a listener must be at least 3
feet (1 meter) from the speakers and ideally should be 6 to
15 feet (2 to 4.5) meters) away.
SET-UP AND ALIGNMENT

16
CONNECT THE HYPERSOUND®SPEAKERS AND THE
POWER SUPPLY TO THE AMPLIFIER
Connect the HyperSound speakers to the amplifier by
connecting the supplied audio cables into the back of the
amplifier and into the back of the speakers (if changing
stands). Insert the striped metal ends of the speaker cables
into the side of the connectors and tighten carefully. Be sure
to connect the right speaker (as looking at the TV) wires to
the connectors marked right and the left speaker wires to
the connectors marked left. A good connection is important
for proper audio so make sure the connections are good and
the connectors are tight.
If you want to enhance the bass (low frequency sound), you
can connect an optional powered woofer (sold separately)
via the woofer output RCA connector. However, since you
can configure the system to simultaneously hear audio from
your standard TV or surround sound system, a woofer may
not be necessary.

17
CONNECT THE AUDIO INPUT TO THE DESIRED AUDIO
SOURCES.
Determine the audio connections that are available to the HyperSound system
The HyperSound®amplifier requires an audio signal from external source
components, such as a TV or entertainment system. To provide connections
from external source components, the HyperSound system has 2 digital
optical (Toslink) inputs, a set of analog RCA inputs, and a 3.5 mm audio input
on the front. Examine the available audio output connectors on your source
components to determine the best method to connect the HyperSound
amplifier. The following are generally the best connection options:
Note: If an optical output is available we recommend using it to provide a
higher quality signal.
IF... Then... Refer

CONNECT THE SYSTEM COMPONENTS

18
Connection Option #1 – Connect directly to the TV audio
output
If you selected Connection #1, then use the following setup. Only
one connection is required (optical or RCA), not both. If your
TV has an optical output, we recommend using it to provide a
higher quality signal.
If you are using the optical input and if you have another audio
system (sound bar or AV receiver) that you would like to have
playing at the same time as the HyperSound system, then you
can use the optical output connector to feed the same audio to
the extra system. (Note that some TVs do not output surround
sound signals. When connected to these TVs, the HyperSound
amplifier will be receiving stereo signals only and the signal
at the optical output will also be limited to stereo. See the
documentation for your TV to determine if it supports Dolby
Digital and how to enable it.)
CONNECT THE SYSTEM COMPONENTS

19
Connection Option #2 – Connect directly to your audio
source(s)
If you selected Connection #2, then use the supplied optical and
/ or RCA cables to connect from the audio output ports from
your source(s) to the HyperSound®amplifier.
Connect the audio outputs from your sources (via either optical
or RCA cables) to the inputs on the HyperSound amplifier.
If your audio source(s) has an optical output, connect it to
the optical input(s) as it can transmit a higher quality signal.
Two optical inputs are available on the HyperSound amplifier.
The optical output can be used to connect additional audio
components (sound bar or AV receiver).
It is possible that some adjustment in delay will be required
to synchronize the sounds from two systems. If you hear an
echo-like effect with the HyperSound audio, then see page 26
regarding Delay to synchronize the sound.
CONNECT THE SYSTEM COMPONENTS

20
Connection Option #3 – Connect through an AV Surround
Sound system
If you selected Connection #3, then use the following
connection setup. This is best if your sources are connected
through a surround sound AV receiver and the AV receiver has
an available audio output.
Using either the optical/Toslink or RCA cables, connect from
the AV system audio outputs into the HyperSound amplifier.
When possible, use an optical input as it can transmit higher
quality sound.
It is possible that some adjustment in delay will be required
to synchronize the sounds from two systems. If you hear an
echo-like effect with the HyperSound audio, then see page 26
regarding Delay to synchronize the sound.
