Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite
accidents.
Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as
in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power
tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power
tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.
Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug
in any way. Do not use any adapted plugs with earthed(grounded)
power tools. Modified plugs and un-matching outlets will increase
the risk of electric shock.
Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as
pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased
risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water
entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or
unplugging the power tool. Keep it away from heat, oil, sharp edges
or moving parts.
When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord
suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use
reduces the risk of electric shock.

Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense
when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you
are tired or under the influence of drugs or alcohol. A moment of
inattention while operating power tools may result in serious
personal injury.
Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection.
Protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes,
hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will
reduce personal injuries.
Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-
position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack,
picking up or carrying the tool.
Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power
tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the
power tool may result in personal injury.
Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected
situations.
Dress properly, say no to loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your
hair, clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or
long hair can be caught in moving parts.
If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction
and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and
properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related
hazards.
Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair-person
using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the

RESIDUAL RISKS
WARNING! Misuse or failure to follow the safety rules stated in
this instruction manual may cause serious personal injury.

6
The Chain saw is designed exclusively for sawing wood. Only cut
trees if you have received the appropriate training. Keep your
hands away from the cutting area (which you might pretty much
figured out already).
Keep bystanders a safe distance away from work area. Anyone
entering the work area must wear personal protective equipment.
Before you start the chain saw, make sure the saw chain is not
contacting anything. A moment of inattention while operating it
may cause entanglement of your clothing or body with the chain.
Always hold the chain saw with your right hand on the main
handle and your left hand on the front handle. Holding the
chain saw with a reversed hand configuration increases the risk
of personal injury and should never be done.
Do not overload your tool. Never force the tool. Forcing the tool
can cause uneven cuts, loss of accuracy, and possible kickback.
Be extremely cautious when cutting saplings (small tree) and
bush because the thinner material may catch on the saw chain and
can be thrown towards you or pull you off balance. When cutting a
limb (branch) that is under tension, watch out for kick back.
When operating the saw, keep the cords away from the cutting area.
Carry the saw only by the front handle, switched off and away
from your body. When transporting or storing the saw always fit
the guide bar cover. Proper handling of the chain saw will reduce
the likelihood of accidental contact with the moving saw chain.
Keep handles dry, clean, and free from oil and grease. Greasy,
oily handles are slippery causing loss of control.
The use of this create and spread dust that may cause serious
respiratory injuries. Always use dust mask.
Wear ear protectors. Exposure to noise can cause hearing loss.
Wear safety goggles or eye protection when using this power
tool. For additional protection against electric shock, be sure to
wear rubber gloves.
ELECTRIC CHAIN SAW SAFETY WARNINGS

7
The Chain saw is a portable, mechanical saw which cuts with a
set of teeth attached to a rotating chain that runs along a guide
bar. It is used in activities such as tree felling, limbing, bucking,
pruning, cutting firebreaks in wildland fire suppression and
harvesting of firewood.
Its drive mechanism is typically a centrifugal clutch and sprocket.
The clutch expands with increasing speed, engaging a drum. On
this drum sits a fixed sprocket. The clutch has three jobs: When
the engine runs idle the chain does not move. When the clutch is
engaged and the chain stops in the wood or another reason, it
protects the engine. Most importantly, it protects the operator in
case of a kickback.
The Guide bar is of wear-resistant alloy steel, 40.5 cm long. The
edge slot guides the cutting chain. The lower part of the chain
runs in the gauge. Here the lubrication oil is pulled by the chain
to the nose of the bar.

Fully loosen the bar locking knob (8) (side cover lock) to remove
the side cover, exposing the sprocket.
Place the chain (7) over the tip of the guide bar (6), making sure
that the cutters are facing in the direction of rotation. Fit the bar
onto the engine unit and fit the chain around the bar.
Ensure that the guide bar groove through the guide pins and the
chain is around the sprocket wheel. If it does not fit, it can be
adjusted slightly with the chain tensioning knob (9).
Pull the guide bar forward until the chain is closely seated. Make
sure that all the drive links are in the groove of the bar.
Adjust the chain tension with the tensioning knob. Rotating the
knob clockwise and anti-clockwise can increase and decrease the
chain tension respectively.
The tension is correct when the chain can be pulled about 3mm
from the bar when using your finger and thumb. Do not over-
tighten as this will reduce the life of the chain and guide bar
(should be adjusted after every 30 minutes of use).

To prevent excessive wear, the saw chain and chain bar must be
evenly lubricated during operation. Lubrication is automatic.
Never start work without chain and bar lubrication.
Place the chainsaw on a flat surface and remove the oil tank cap.
Fill the tank (90 ml capacity) with chain bar oil, ensuring that no
dirt enters the tank. Refit the cap and clean any oil spillage.
To check lubricating system, switch on
the chainsaw and hold it with the guide
bar and chain above some paper like a
newspaper. A steadily increasing stain
caused by oil spray shows the lubricating
system is working.
LUBRICATION
To start the motor after plugging in,
simply press the safety switch (1) first,
continuing the same then press the
ON/OFF trigger switch (2). The chain will
now be running, ready to make a cut.
Then release the safety switch.

Oil tank with a capacity of 90ml
WARNING! Only use oil that is expressly labelled ‘chain bar oil’.
Petroleum-based,20W 40 engine oil can be used as an alternative.
Do not use vegetable oil, palm oil, used engine oil etc.,

11
The chain must be running at full speed before it makes contact
with the wood. Use the metal gripping teeth (bucking spikes) to
secure the saw onto the wood before starting to cut. Use the
gripping teeth as a leverage point while cutting.
Start cutting by holding the chainsaw by the front handle and
raising the rear handle.
Do not operate the chainsaw with arms fully extended or attempt
to saw areas which are difficult to reach, or on a ladder. Never
use the chainsaw above shoulder height.
If you cannot cut the timber in a single stroke, apply light
pressure to the front handle and continue sawing, draw the
chainsaw back a little then apply the gripping teeth a little lower
and finish the cut by raising the rear handle.
Withdraw the chainsaw from the cut while the chain is still
running. If the chain gets caught in the cut, do not try to remove
it by twisting the guide or pulling forcibly. Use a lever or wedge
to open up the cut so that the chain is freed.
Support logs so that the face sides at the cut do not close in
against each other, which would result in the chain being jammed
or pinched.
Position your body to the left of the chainsaw so if it kicks back
uncontrollably, it goes over your right shoulder, never stand in
the cutting line of the saw.
GENERAL OPERATION
WARNING! Always hold chainsaw firmly with both hands. Front
grip with left hand and rear grip with right hand. Fully grip both
handles at all times during operation.
Refer specific instructions on page no. 6 before operation.
IBL EC16-18
Only operate the device
after sufficient training.

12
FELLING A TREE:
Decide the direction in which you wish the
tree to fall, taking into account the direction
of the wind, the position of branches, lean of
the tree, ease of subsequent limbing and
bucking (will be discussed next) and other
factors general at the time.
No person or animal must be within 2.5 tree
lengths of the base of the tree to be felled.
You should clear two escape routes, each
opening out at an angle of 45° in the direction
opposite to that in which you plan the tree
should fall. These escape routes must be free
and clear of obstruction.
LIMBING:
This is the process of removing the branches from a fallen tree.
Check the direction in which a branch will bend before cutting it.
Always cut on the opposite side to the bending direction so that
the bar is not pinched in the cut.
For large limbs that cannot be
removed in one cut, make an initial
cut from the bent side and finish by
sawing from the opposite direction.
Do not remove limbs that supports the
fallen tree on the ground until the tree
has been cut into lengths.

WARNING! Always keep a balanced stance. Do not stand on the
log. Be alert to the fact that the log may roll over. When working on
a slope, always stand on the up-hill side of the log.
Avoid cutting into the ground as this will quickly dull the chain.

13
BUCKING:
Bucking is the process of cross-cutting a log into lengths for
easier handling.
To saw a log lying on the ground, first
saw halfway, then roll the log over and
cut from the opposite side. That it is to
be cut from the top (overbuck).
To saw the end of a log supported off
the ground, first saw up from the
bottom (underbuck) one-third through
the log then finish by sawing down
from the top.
To saw a log in the middle of two
supports holding it off the ground, first
saw down from the top one-third
through the log then finish by sawing up
from the bottom.
PRUNING:
Pruning is the removal of a limb or branch
from a standing tree.
Do not use an unstable foothold or ladder.
Do not overreach. Do not saw above
shoulder height. Always use both hands to
hold the saw. First cut up from the bottom
and finish down from the top.
WOOD UNDER TENSION:
Tree trunks can be under great tension when lying on the ground,
and they can spring dangerously when cut. Always cut the side that
is under compression first, and then the side under tension.

This product does not contain any parts that can be repaired by
the consumer. Contact an authorised service centre or a similarly
qualified person to have it checked and repaired.
Chain tensioning: Check the chain tension frequently and adjust as
often as necessary (See page no. 9 for more details).
Guide bar: If the bar is not regularly cleaned, oil and sawdust
combine and emit a burning smell during operation.
Make sure that the oil port is
not clogged. Grease the nose
sprocket at the tip of the bar.
Check for oil leakage and loose
fastenings, especially those
securing handles and the bar.
Clean any dust away from the
cooling vents as clogged vents can cause overheating.
By maintaining a clean unit, you will extend the useful life of the
chain and the saw in general.
Periodically trim the sides of rails using a flat file. If not done in
the long run, the edges might break away and damage the bar.
If the top rail of the guide bar is uneven, use a flat file to restore
them to the same height.
MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR
IBL EC16-18
NOTE: Before and after each use, check the product and accessories
(or attachments) for wear and damage.

Chain Sharpening:
Chain File: 3.96mm | Chain Pitch: 9.5mm | Chain Gauge: 1.3mm
Sharpen each cutter using a chain file, regularly to maintain
optimum performance of the saw. This is required at-most when
extra force is required to execute a cut, the cut does not track in a
straight line and increased vibrations.
Always use outward strokes and maintain a 30° angle between the
chain and file. After sharpening, the cutters must all have the
same width and length.
Keep the chain saw clean. Never use water or chemical cleaners
to clean your tool. Wipe clean with a dry cloth.
Keep the handles free of grease to maintain a firm grip.
The guide bar and chain should be checked and cleaned of saw
chips and dust after each use, clean the groove in the bar and add
oil to the oil holes at the drive sprocket end of the guide bar.
Keep the ventilation vents of the chainsaw clean at all times, if
possible, prevent foreign matter from entering the vents.
If the chainsaw is not to be used for an extended period of time,
then you should remove the chain oil from the tank. Briefly
immerse the chain and the cutter rail in an oil bath and then wrap
them in oil paper.
Store the chainsaw in a safe and dry place out of the reach of
children with the chain guard fitted, on a flat surface.
