Ikegami MA-500 User manual

1 General
MA-500 Camera Control Unit is a device used to remotely control a HL-65W color camera.
Connected with a 19-conductor camera cable (26 pins), the unit is extendable up to 300m. The
unit is an effective utility when used in conjunction with a 5” viewfinder camera at a studio or on
site and as a surveillance camera. The unit can also be adopted for Q-TV (optional).
1.1 Features
{ Remote control function
Connected to RM-51, RCP-50B, or OCP-399, the MA-500 offers remote operational control of
various functions. Operational control from the MA-500 front panel is also available.
Note:
Simultaneous operational control of the MA-500 front panel and the remote controller should not be
performed. Always control the functions using a single control method only.
{ Component signal transmission
Signal transmission from the camera: COMPONENT
The unit enables selection between the RGB and Y/Cb/Cr signals to be output.
The Y/C signal can be output if set to “Y/C” on the camera adaptor.
{ Cable compensation circuit
A high-pass transmission loss and reduction in the level attributed to the camera cable can be
corrected up to 300m.
Correction also applies to the length of the RET signal cable connected to Q-TV.
{ SDI output (D1)
SDI output (D1) is enabled.
{ Q-TV output (optional)
Equipped with the Q-TV module, the MA-500 assures Q-TV transmission when the Q-TV module
is mounted to the CA-65 camera adaptor.
{ Applicable remote controllers
RM-51, RCP-50B, and OCP-399 are available for MA-500 Camera Control Unit.
Note:
RCP-50 memory card function
No files saved using the HL-65W camera head memory card function can be loaded by the RCP-50
remote controller if connection is established between the MA-500 and RCP-50 remote controller.
Files saved by the RCP-50 remote controller also fail to load when using the HL-65W camera head
memory card function. Files saved by the camera head memory card or the RCP-50 remote
controller can only be loaded using the respective device.

29. Control Selection Area
The Item Select switch allows selection of the
control item. With each press of the switch, the
item changes in sequence: GAIN →AWB →
ND →CC →GAIN. By pressing either of the
select switches (left and right arrows), the
function of the selected item becomes operable.
The status corresponding to the camera will be
displayed on the status indicator. Moreover, the
select switch status (ON/OFF) shows whether
the switch operation is possible.
When selecting GAIN, you can specify the
gain of a camera by pressing of the select
switch. The right switch is used to increase the
level of gain, and left switch is used to
decrease it. The specified gain will be
displayed accordingly to the status indicator.
When selecting AWB, you can select automatic
white balancing memory. The status indicator
provides “H” (Head) or no indication
(remote-controlled) on the left. On the right, ”A"
(Ach), "B" (Bch), and "o" (Off) are displayed.
When selecting ND/CC, you can control the
camera’s optical filter. With control of the filter
transferred to the head, the select switch
remains inoperable, which disables operation.
Simultaneously pressing the select switches
(left and right arrows) permits the transfer of
control. The select switch status (ON/OFF)
designates which controls the filter. The
common display of the status indicator applies
to both ND and CC: ND (number) on the left
and CC (alphabet) on the right. As to a single
filter, only CC is selectable, and the status
indicator provides a number.
30. Shutter Selection Area
Pressing the SHUTTER switch to ON allows
selection of the electronic shutter. The shutter
speed increases by pressing the up arrow
select switch and decreases by pressing the
down arrow select switch. The shutter speed
will be displayed on the status indicator.
Pressing the VAR. switch to ON allows the
shutter speed setting to be set to an arbitrary
rate. The indicator remains off when the VAR.
switch is ON. The shutter speed increases by
pressing the up arrow select switch and
decreases by pressing the down arrow select
switch.
31. MENU Switch
This switch turns ON/OFF the camera head
menu.
The lamp lights up when the menu is set to
ON.
Notice
A character is superimposed onto an image
transmitted from the main system when the
menu is set to ON.
32. SELECT Knob
Selects a menu item by turning it with the menu
set to ON. The selection is confirmed by
pressing this knob.

MA500 0711 VOL1(E) 17

3.2 Connection with The Camera Head
* Always connect the color camera and MA-500 using the dedicated MCC cable.
(VTR cable not available)
* The MA-500 is capable of outputting the RGB signal or
Y/Cb/Cr signal. The RGB / YCbCr select switch, which is
located on the MA-500 rear panel, configures the output
setting. (See the figure right)
Notice Switch the camera head adaptor switch fully to
output the Y/C signal.
Reference See section “4.2.2 Output of the Y/C image signal” for outputting the Y/C signal.
* The camera cable (MCC cable) should be connected, keeping away from main power sources, noise
sources (such as construction drills), and mainframe computers.
* Do not connect the remote controller to the camera head when the MA-500 is in use. The camera will
become inoperable if this warning is disregarded.
Notice Camera Power Supply
The color camera draws its power through the MA-500 camera dedicated cable (MCC cable)
when connected to the MA-500.
MA500 0711 VOL1(E) 18

<Connection with SDI Devices>
• SDI output is to be connected to the SDI OUT connector "1" or “2”. This connection has no effect
on the image signal to be output.
• Connection with the SDI devices requires a coaxial cable.
• The MA-500 is capable of outputting the RGB signal
or Y/Cb/Cr signal. The RGB / YCbCr select switch,
which is located on the MA-500 rear panel,
configures the output setting.
(See the figure right)
Notice Always use a D1 input-capable monitor when
connecting the SDI output to the monitor.
Notice If the Y/C image signal is output through the
OUT PUT connector located on the MA-500
rear panel (see the figure right), no SDI image signal
will be output.
