Readtheseinstructionscarefully,andexamine
theillustrations,thenyouwillgetgoodpicturesfrom
thestartwhetheryouusecolourorblackandwhitefilm.

If35mmisnewtoyou
Yourcamerausesblackandwhiteorcolourfilms,
35mm.(millimetres)wide,whichareavailablein
light-proofmetalcontainerscalledcassettes.
Thecassetteoffilmisloadedintothecamera
andaftereachpicturehasbeentakenthefilmhas
tobewoundonarounda take-upspool.
Youdonothavetolookintoa redwindowas
thefilmwindingleverwindsonjusttheright
amountoffilmeachtime.Youcantellhowmany
picturesyouhavetakenbylookingata
counterinthebaseofthecamera.Whenallthe
filmhasbeenusedithastoberewoundinto
thelight-proofcassettebeforeyouopen
thebackofthecamera.
YourSportsman125cameratakes
pictures24x 36mm.insize.Whenyou
handanexposedblackandwhitefilm,inits
cassette,toyourphotodealerfordeveloping and
printingyoushouldaskforenprints(small
enlargements)size3½x5 inchesorother
enlargements.Colourprintsaremade
from35mm.colournegativefilmssuchas
Ilfocolorandcolourslidesfromcolour
reversalfilmssuchasIlfochrome.

Ifyourphotodealerhasloadedthecamerafor
you,youwillwanttostarttakingpictures
rightaway.Turntopage14whereyouwillfind
setouttheessentialstepsfortakingsnapshots.
Butwestartthebookbydescribingthe
waya filmshouldbeloaded.Obtaina cassette
offilmandfollowthestepbysteploading
ofyourcamerasetoutbelow.Thefiguresin
bracketsthroughoutthebookletrefertothe
partsshownonpages4 and5.

Step1.Openthecamerabypushingupthecatch
release(10)usingyourthumbnailora coin.
Step2.Pushuptherewindingspindle(8).
Step3.Dropfilminandleaditsendacrosstothe
take-upspool.Pushdowntherewindingspindle
gently,rotatingitslightlyifnecessary,to
securethecassette.Nowpresstheshutterrelease
button(5)asfarasitwillgo.
Step4.Feedendoffilminwideslotoftake-up
spoolandhookthesecondperforationoverthe
projectingtooth.Ifwideslotisnot
visiblerotatethespoolwiththethumb.

Step5.Ensurethatthesprocketsareengagedwith
thefilmperforations.Turnthetake-upspoolwith
thethumbtotakeupthetensionofthefilmon
thespool.Yourloadedcamerashouldlooklike
this.Nowclosetheback,makingsurethefilm
doesnotspringawayfromthesprocketsandpush
itsothatitsnapsshut.
Step6.Operatethefilmwindinglever(3)asfaras
itwillgo.Nowpresstheshutterreleasebutton
andoperatethefilmwindinglevertwoorthree
timeseachuntilthepicturecounter(6)indicates"1".
Checkthattherewindingknobandcrank(8)
turn,asyouwindonthefilm.Keeplefthandclearof
rewindknobasyouwindon,toavoiddamagetofilm.
Step7.Nowsetthefilmtypereminderdisc(2).

thefilm.Ifthedistanceringissetto14feetand
thediaphragmringto"16",thenbyreferring
tothe"depthoffield"scale(12)youcanseethat
objectsinthepicturewillbesharpfromabout
