INSTALLATIONGUIDE
RoutingtheControlCable:
Thecontrolcableusedinthe10‐01118‐000kitisamulti‐conductorwirewhichincludestheswitchinput
signal,thealarmoutputsignalandthegroundsignal.ThiscablemustgobacktotheBatteryGuard®
1000.Itisrecommendedtoleaveaservicelooporatleast1ftofextrawireintherunforservicing
purposes.Thiscabledoesnotneedtoberuninsideofconduitandneedanyothersortofcabling
protection.
Note:TheBatteryGuard®1000kitincludesa10ftharnessaswellasa10ftextensionharness.Besure
tousethecorrectconfigurationwhenroutingthewires.
InstallingtheBatteryGuard®1000:
WARNING:Beforeproceeding,disconnectallsourcesofpower.Unplugtheshorepowercableandturn
offthegenerator.Disconnectthebattery(s)negative(‐)terminal.
TheBatteryGuard®1000controlsarelaythatactsaselectro‐mechanicalswitchthatdisconnectsthe
battery.Itshouldbelocatednearthebatteryforwiringsimplicity.Wheninstalled,therelaywillbe
inserted"in‐line"withthecablecomingfromthepositive(+)terminalofthebattery.Keepthisinmind
whenchoosingtheinstallationlocation.
WARNING:Donotplacebetweenbatteryandvehicleoperationsafetycriticaldevices.TheBattery
Guard®1000willautomaticallydisconnectallloadsattachedtoitwhenthebatteriesvoltagegetstoo
low.Pleaseensurethataseparatebranchiscreatedforallsafetycriticaldevice.
Whileholdingtherelayinplacenearthechassisbattery,markthelocationofthetwoholesfortherelay
mountingbolts.Settherelayaside,anddrilltwomountingholes.Beforeboltingtherelayinplace,route
theControlCablenearthemountingplace.Wheninstallinginanenginecompartment,besureto
provideenoughspaceforairflowtoallowforcooling.
ConnectingtheCables:
WARNING:You must use two wrenches to tighten the nuts on the stud, one to turn the outside nut and
one to hold the nut on the inside from turning. The copper stud must not turn, or relay operation may be
affected.
Locatethepositivebatterycableforthechassisbattery.Carefullycutthecableneartherelay.Stripthe
cableinsulationbackabout1/2"oneachendandcrimponthebatterycableterminals.Removekeps
nutsfrombothcopperstudsbeingcarefultoleavetheexistingREDandYELLOWwiresinplace.Connect
theterminalstothecopperstudsontherelay.It’simportantthatthebatteryfeedcablegoestothe
studthattheexistingREDwireisonandtheloadfeedgoestothestudthattheexistingYELLOWwireis
on.Ifeitherwireisnotpresentduringinstallation,thendonotcontinuetheinstallationastheBattery
Guard®willnotoperatecorrectly.
