A. STORAGE
1. Store on a at level surface.
2. DO NOT stack bundles over 8 units high.
3. Use caution when using a forklift, as forks may damage the deck.
4. When using plastic banding (steel banding is not recommended),
use corner protectors to prevent indenting the materials.
5. Keep factory applied covering on products until installed to protect
against dirt and debris.
6. Cover decking with light colored tarp before installing to minimize
expansion and contraction.
B. IMPORTANT PLANNING AND PREPARATION
1. Inteplast PVC Deck is not meant to be used for structural applica-
tions, supports or beams.
2. Inteplast PVC Deck board should never be used for a supports or a
component of railing systems
3. Keep product orientated using print-line as a guide.
4. Deck should be designed with enough clearance underneath (12”
min.)to allow for proper air circulation.(see Fig#1) Roof deck with sleep-
er joists are not recommend due to limited air circulation underneath.
5. Do not install Inteplast PVC Deck on top of the old deck board.
6. If using an existing joist structure, check that all joists are level,
structurally sound, with no nails or screws protruding.
7. Correct joist spacing is required for proper installation (see Chart
#1 & Fig#1)
DECK Installation Guidelines
CHART#2: DECK BOARD SPACING
Ambient Temperature Butt ends Side to Side
Below 32°F 3/16” 1/8” - 3/16”
Between 32°F and 75°F1/8” 1/8” - 3/16”
Above 75°Fno space 1/8” - 3/16”
CHART#1: JOIST SPACING
90° angle 30° angle 45° angle
100 PSF 16” 12” 12”
For best results, space 12” O.C. to minimize deection
DO NOT exceed 16” center to center spacing when installing deck
board perpendicular to joists.
DO NOT exceed 12” center to center spacing for commercial use.
DO NOT exceed 12” center to center spacing when installing planks
diagonal to joists, such as a herringbone pattern. Decrease joist
spacing for the deck with more severe angles.
8. When Deck boards are installed end-to-end or with a splice joint, add
double joists as needed to fasten deck boards securely. (see Fig#1)
9. Be sure all joists are level and crowned correctly. Inteplast Deck will
conform to the contour of the substructure.
10. Use two screws for every joist. (see Fig#1 ~#3 )
11. Maximum cantilevering space is 1” (see Fig#1)
12. Like wood, minor color variation of the DECK will occur ( spe-
cially for variegated color line). For optimal appearance, layout and
view all deck boards before cutting or fastening. Place all tagged
ends in the same direction.
C. TOOLS
1. Inteplast PVC Deck installation is comparable to wood or com-
posite decking and the tools for installation are similar.
2. Do not nail Inteplast PVC Deck boards.
3. Battery operated or corded drill / screwdriver is recommended.
4. Self-feeding screw guns can also be used.
5. Saw capable of miter cuts with a ne-toothed carbide tipped nish
trim blade is recommended: 7-1/4ӯ 40 tooth minimum; 10ӯ 60
tooth minimum; 12ӯ 90 tooth minimum.
6. Wear safety glasses / goggles at all times.
D. EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION
1. Inteplast PVC Deck, when installed with two screws per joist,
will have minimal expansion and contraction due to temperature
changes. There will be no side-to-side movement and small end-to-
end change; slight gaps may be noticed at the ends of boards or in
spliced joints. (see CHART#2: DECK BOARD SPACING)
2. Approx. expansion and contraction for unattached Inteplast PVC deck
based on 50°F temperature change:12’=3/16” ; 16’=1/4” ; 20’= 5/16”
3. Provide proper ventilation to minimize expansion and contraction.
4. Fasten boards as soon after cutting as possible.
5. Deck boards must be fastened with two screws no more than
1/2” from the end of the board and 3/4”max. to sides. (see Fig#3)
6. Install boards together tightly at spliced joints and miters.
7. Always leave a 1/8” to 1/4” gap between decking and any struc-
ture (wall or post).
8. Fasten ends of deck boards, splices and abutments to build-
ing or securely to framing using two screws positioned within
1/2” of each board end or joint. (see Fig#3)
9. Stagger miters or splices so they do not all break on the same joist.
10. Inteplast PVC Deck Fascia board must be fastened using 1-5/8”
stainless steel screws at 12” on center. Screws should be installed
1/2” from the top and bottom edges, along with a screw in the center.
Use a bead of construction adhesive between 12” o.c. (see Fig#5 )
E. RECOMMENDED FASTENERS
1. Correct fasteners must be used to ensure the quality of installation. High
quality fasteners that meet following requirements are recommended:
Stainless Steel #7 screw size minimum 2-1/4” length minimum
2. Coastal applications near salt water require 316 stainless steel
screws or better.
3. Install fasteners perpendicular to the deck is highly recommended.

4. For side mount (hidden fastener) installation such as: CAMO, HID-
fast...etc., use Cortex face screws or other positive fastening system
within 1/2” of the end of each board for additional fastening strength.
5. When installing with hidden fasteners, use a sacricial board against
the side of the deck board. Never strike Inteplast PVC Deck directly
with hammer or rubber mallet.
6. Dock and pier installations may have special fastening specications
required by building codes. Check with authorities before installation.
7. For best results, pre-drill holes when installing decking at 40F or below.
8. Always apply glue and screw at miter joints & picture frame border joints
will greatly decreases the potential for large gaps in miter joints. (see Fig.#4)
9. No more than 1” overhang of the board from joist structure on the
end and edge/side. Flushing with the joist structure is recommended to
prevent deformation. (see Fig.#4)
10. For best results, gluing and fastening of DECK FASCIA (rim boards)
every 6” to the wood joist is recommended, (see Fig.#5)
11. Fasten deck boards on top of the proper wood joist structure di-
rectly. Do not fasten the boards on top of the old deck boards.
F. STAIR TREADS (see Fig.#6)
1. Build stairs per local building code requirements.
2. Proper support beneath the deck boards is required. Install Inteplast
PVC Deck on stringers set no more than 12 inches on center.
3. Fasten deck board using two screws per stringer per board.
4. Deck board overhang should not exceed 1/2” beyond stringers
G. CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Inteplast PVC Deck is very durable but still need to be maintained. The
following recommendations will help to keep the deck looking best.
1. Periodical washing of the deck using water to remove dirt and debris.
2. NEVER use rubber or vinyl materials such as grill mats, rubber
backed welcome mats, rain wear, plastic tarps, vinyl gloves, vinyl
or PVC potted containers, garden hoses, inatable toys, and
swimming pools, etc. for an extended period of time. Additives
in the rubber and PVC products have a tendency to migrate from
these materials to the deck, resulting in discoloration of the surface.
3. Some chemicals in sun-block lotion, insect repellent, or similar prod-
ucts may contain chemicals or additives, which will alter the surface of
the deck. Please check product labels, consult the manufacturer, and
or contact us to ensure compatibility prior to use on or near the deck.
4. Rust Removal:household toilet bowl cleaner is recommended.
5. Ice Removal: Products containing calcium chloride can be used
without damage to the surface but may leave a white residue. This
can be cleaned using the principles outlined above.
6. Snow Removal: Use only a plastic shovel.

H. OTHER FACTORS TO CONSIDER
1. Low E Glass Considerations: If Low E (Low Emissivity) glass
windows or doors are used around the deck, its reection of sun-
light may create additional, excessive heat that could damage your
deck. The damages may include but are not limited to melting, dis-
coloration, excessive expansion and contraction or rapid weather-
ing. A combination of contributing factors must be present before
the effect occurs or causes damage to any nearby decking materi-
als. This damaging effect can be prevented in many cases by in-
stalling the window screens supplied by the window manufacturer.
2. All deck surfaces will get hot in the sun; darker colors feel hotter
than lighter colors.
NOTE: Inteplast claims no liability or responsibility for the improper in-
stallation of our deck product. The purchaser is solely responsible for
compliance with applicable local codes as to the deck’s intended use.
We recommend that all designs be reviewed by a licensed architect, en-
gineer or local building ofcial before installation. Failure to comply with
our DECK Installation Guideline will result in voiding the warranty.
