2. Introduction
Congratulationsonyour choiceofthe uninterruptiblepower system(UPS),the UPScomesin
nominalpower ratingsof1000VA,2000VAand 3000VA.Itisdesigned toprovide conditioned
powertomicrocomputers and other sensitiveelectronic equipment.
When itisgenerated, alternating currentisclean and stable. However, during transmission and
distributionitmaybesubject tovoltage sags, spikesand completepower failure thatmay
interruptcomputer operations, causedatalossandeven damage equipment. The UPS
protects equipmentfromthesedisturbances.
The UPSisacompact,on-line UPS.Anon-line UPScontinuouslyconditionsand regulatesits

clean sinewavepower. Sensitiveelectronic equipment operates best fromsinewavepower.
For easeofuse,the UPSfeaturesaLCD displaytoindicateallinformationforUPS,and

3. System Description
3.1TransientVoltageSurgeSuppression(TVSS)and EMI/FRIFilters
TheseUPScomponents provide surge protectionand filter bothelectromagnetic interference
(EMI)and radiofrequencyinterference(RFI).They minimizeany surge or interferencepresent
inthe utilitylineand keep thesensitiveequipment protected.
3.2Rectifier/PowerFactorCorrection (PFC) Circuit
Innormaloperation, the rectifier/powerfactor correction (PFC) circuit converts utilityACpower
toregulated DC power for usebythe inverter whileensuring thatthe waveformoftheinput
currentused bythe UPSisnearideal.Extracting thissinewaveinputcurrentachievestwo
objects:
lThe utilitypower is used as efficiencyaspossiblebytheUPS.
lThe amountofdistortionreflected on the utilityis reduced.
Thisresultsincleaner power being availabletoother devicesinthe building not being
protected bythe UPS.
3.3Inverter
Innormaloperation, the inverter utilizethe DCoutputofthe power factor correction circuit and
inverters itintoprecise, regulated sinewaveACpower. Upon autility powerfailure, the inverter
receivesitsrequired energy fromthe battery through the DC-to-DC converter.Inbothmodes of
operation,the UPSinverter ison-line and continuously generating clean,precise,regulatedAC
output power.
3.4BatteryCharger
The battery charger utilizes energyfromthe utilitypower and preciselyregulatesitto
continuouslyfloatcharge thebatteries. The batteries are beingcharged whenever the UPSis

connectedtoutilitypower.
3.5DC-to-DC Converter
The DC-to-DC converter utilizesenergyfromthe batterysystemandraisesthe DC voltage to
the optimumoperating voltage forthe inverter. The converter includesboostcircuitwhichis
alsoused asPFC.
3.6Battery
The standard modelincludevalue-regulated, non-spillable,lead acidbatteriesinside. To
maintainbatterydesign life, operatethe UPSinan ambienttemperature of 14-25°C.
3.7DynamicBypass
The UPSprovides an alternatepathfor utilitypower totheconnectedload inthe unlikelyevent
of aUPS malfunction.Shouldthe UPS havean overload, over temperature or anyother failure
condition,the UPSautomaticallytransferstheconnected load tobypass.Bypassoperationis
indicatedbyan audiblealarmand illuminatedamber Bypass LED.
NOTICE Thebypasspower pathdoes NOTprotect theconnectedequipment from
