1. PreparetheArea:Ensuretheinstallationareaisfreeofobjectsandobstructionswithin20
inchesfromthecenterofthescale.
2. ChoosetheStandBaseLocation:
a. Countermounting:Findalocationonthemountingsurfacesothatthecenterofthe
baseisapproximately21to24inchesfromthecenterofthescaleandsothatthestand
baseisdirectlybehindortothesideofthescale.Itisimportantthestandis
perpendiculartoanedgeofthescale.
b. WallMounting:Makesurethebaseismountedonawallorpostsothatthedistance
fromthemountingsurfacetothecenterofthescaleis20to23inches.Itisimportant
thethatthescannerpoleisperpendiculartoanedgeofthescale.Usedifferent
mountinghardwareifrequiredbythewallmountinglocation.Donotinstallthebase
now.
3. InstalltheStandBase(CounterMountingOnly):
WARNING:Astrongconnectionofthebasetothemountingsurfaceisimportantfor
usersafety.
a. Usetheincluded¼inchlagscrewsandwasherstosecurethestandbasetothe
mountingsurface.
b. Useadrilltomakeapilotholeforeachscrew,usually3/32–3/16inchesforwood
dependingonthedensityofthematerial.Checkthepilotholediameterforyour
application.
4. AssembletheUprightPole(CounterMountingOnly):
a. Findtheuprightpoles.Therearetwo,theyarethesamelength,anddonothaveholes
drilledinthem.
b. Onaflatsurfaceinsertbothuprightpolesintotheopenendsoftheuprightjointmaking
suretheyareinsertedasfarastheywillgo.
c. SnuglytightentheAllenscrewswiththeincluded5mmAllenwrench.Taketurns
tighteningbothscrews1/2turneachalternatingbackandforthbetweenthemto
ensurethejointisevenlytightenedontobothpoles.
d. Makesurethepolesstaycompletelyinsertedintheuprightjointduringassembly.
5. InstalltheUprightPole(CounterMountingOnly):
a. Inserttheuprightpoleassemblyintothestandbasethentightenthesetscrewwiththe
included5mmAllenwrenchtoholdthepoleinplace.

b. Inserttheplasticcapintotheexposedtopendoftheuprightpoleusingahammerto
lightlytapintoplace.Insertapieceofcardboardorwoodoverthecaptoprevent
damagetothecap.
6. InstalltheScannerPole:
WARNING:Atallstoolorladderisrequiredforthefollowingstepsifthescanneris
installedonacountertoporawallthatisbeyondreachwhenstandingonthefloor.Get
assistanceforanotherpersonandfollowallsafetyinstructionsforthestoolorladder.
a. Placethescannerpolewithinreach.
b. Ifcountermounting,makesurethescannerpoleclamppiecesareinterlockedtogether
onthesideoppositetheAllenscrew.
c. Ifcountermounting,loosentheAllenscrewuntilitisjustabouttofallout.Slidethe
scannerpoleclampovertheuprightpoleandholditinplacewithonehand.
d. Ifcountermounting,whileholdingthescannerpoleclampinplace,fullyinserttheend
ofthescannerpolewithoutdrilledholesintothescannerpoleclampandlightlytighten
theAllenscrewsothatpoleremainsinplace.
e. Ifwallmounting,insertthescannerpoleintothestandbaseandlightlytightentheset
screw.ThestandbaseisNOTmountedtothewallyet.
f. Rotatethescannerpolesothatthedrilledholesfaceupwards.
g. Thescannerpolerequiresadjustmentlatersodonotsnuglytightenyet.

a. Choosingtheinstallationholestomountthescannertothescannerpolerequires
findingaholethatisroughlyabovethecenterofthescale.Thereareseven(7)
mountingholes
b. Holdtheincludedclothrulersothatoneendhangsfromthescannerpoleandthefar
endisroughlyoverthecenterofthescale.
c. Chooseaholethatisclosesttotheendoftheruleratthescannerpoleendofthetape.
Thisisthefrontmountingholeforthescanner.
d. Makesurethatanotherholeisavailable3inchesbehindthathole(closertotheupright
poleorwall)whichistherearscannermountinghole.Ifthereisnotonethere,choose
thenextholeforward.
2. MounttheScanner:
IMPORTANT:Keepthebottomscanningsurfacecoveredwiththefoampackaginguntil
isitmountedonthescannerpole.
a. HoldtheBoxDimscannersothatthebackoftheunitwithalltheconnectionopenings
andlabelsfacesthestanduprightpole/wallANDthefoam‐coveredscanningsurface
withtheLEDsandholesfacesdown.
b. Insertboth#10‐32screwsthroughtheholesinthescannerpolechosenaboveandinto
thethreadedholesonthetopofthescanner.
c. TightenthescrewswithaPhillipsscrewdriversothatscannerremainsinplace.Donot
overtighten.
d. Removetheprotectivefoamsheetfromthebottomofthescanner.

3. AdjusttheScannerLocation:
IMPORTANT:Itiscriticalthatbottomofthescannerisexactly48inches(1219mm)
fromthescalesurface.Consistentandaccuratemeasurementsdependonthisdistance.
Completingtheadjustmentstepsbelowareimportant.Itisbesttouseatapemeasure
forthisprocess.Aclothtapeisincludedasabackupbutisnotpreferred.Havinghelp
fromasecondpersonmakesthisprocessmucheasier.
a. Useatapemeasure(ortheincludedclothtapeifnecessary)tomeasurethedistance
betweenthebottomofthescanner(thescanningsurface)andthetopofthescale.The
targetheightisexactly48inches(1219mm).NOTE:Ifusingtheclothtape,makesure
topullittighttoremovewrinkles.Thisprocessrequirestwopeopletoperform.
b. Ifcountermounting,whileholdingthescannerpole(donotpushonthescanner),rotate
itleftandrightwhilepullingupordowntoadjustthescannerpoleheight.
c. Ifcountermounting,tightenthescrewonthescannerpoleclampthenchecktheheight
toconfirmthebottomscannersurfaceisstillexactly48inchesabovethescale.
d. Ifcountermounting,repeattheabovestepstomakefineadjustmentsifthe
measurementisnotexactly48inches(1219mm)abovethescalesurfaceafterthe
scannerpoleclampscrewistight.
e. Ifwallmounting,tightenthesetscrewinthestandbasethenholdthescannerand
scannerpoleassemblyfirmlyagainstthemountingsurfacewhileasecondperson
measuresthedistancefromthebottomscanningsurfacetothescalesurface.Whenthe
heightisexactly48inches(1219mm)abovethescalesurface,markthescannerbase
holelocations.Mountthescannerbasewiththelagscrewsinthemarkedlocationsas
describedabove.
f. Placetheincludedvial‐levelontopofthescannerclosetothescannerpoleandsothe
bubbleisvisiblefromthefrontofthescanner.
g. Withthe5mmAllenwrench,slightlyloosenthescannerpoleclampscrew(counter
mount)orstandbasesetscrew(wallmount)thengentlytwistthescannerpoleuntilthe
vial‐levelshowsthescannerislevellefttoright.
h. Tightenthescannerpoleclamp/standbasescrewthenconfirmtheheightisstillexactly
48inches.Continueadjustingbyrepeatingtheabovestepsifrequired.
i. Confirmthatallscrewsinthestandandscanneraretight.

4. ConnectCables:
a. DetermineifthescannerisconnectedtoaWindows®PCbyUSBcableorviaanetwork
byEthernetcable.
i. Ethernetisthepreferredconnectionmethodduetoahigherdatatransferrate
andlongerallowableconnectiondistance.IfusingEthernet,connectthe
scannertoanetworkswitchwithanethernetcablepluggedintotheRJ45port
onthebackofthescanner.
ii. AUSBconnectionispossibleifnonetworkconnectionisavailableandthe
Windows®basedPCis15feetorlessfromthescanningdevice.IfusingaUSB
connection,insertthesquare‘B’endoftheUSBcableintotheUSBportonthe
backofthescanner.ConnecttheotherendoftheUSBcabletoanavailableUSB
portontheWindows®10PC.
b. Insertthemaleendofthepowerextensioncordintopowerinputportonthebackof
thescanner.
c. UseoneoftheincludedVelcrostrapstosecureboththecommunicationcableandthe
powerextensioncordtothescannerpolesothatthecablesdonothangdownnearthe
scanner.
d. Connectthefemaleendofthepowerextensioncabletothemaleconnectoronthe
powersupply.
e. UsetwoVelcrostrapsindifferentplacestosecurethecommunicationandpowercables
totheuprightstandpolessothatthecablesdonotbulgeoutintothescanningarea.
f. Plugthepowersupplyintoawalloutlet.Thepowerlightonthebackofthescanner
shouldilluminatered.Ifitdoesnot,checkallconnectionstoconfirmthateverythingis
pluggedtogether.IfthelightstilldoesnotilluminatethencallIolinecustomerservice

UsingtheBoxDimSystem
1. MeasuringaBox:
a. Placeanobjectonthescalethatcomplieswiththespecificationslistedabove.Make
suretheedgesareroughlyparallelwiththeedgesofthescanner.
b. Thelaserpointerwillturnonasaguidetoshowwheretopositionthecenterofthebox.
c. Therearetwomethodsfortakingmeasurements:
i. Method1:Theeasiestandmostefficientmethodformeasuringaboxistouse
hotkeystoautomaticallyinsertthedimensionsdirectlyintoshippingor
databasesoftware.Placethecursorintothefirstmeasuremententrywindow
andpressthehotkeyconfiguredforthesoftware.ThedefaultisF6.Ifthe
measurementsdisplayincorrectlythenconsultthehelpfilefortheBoxDim
softwaretochangetheconfiguration.
ii. Method2:UsetheBoxDimPCapplication.RightclickontheBoxDimcubeicon
inthesystemtrayandchooseShowApp.ClicktheGetDimensionsbutton.The
measurementisdisplayedinthewindownexttothebutton.
d. Makesuretoremovetheboxfromthescaleorthescannerwillblinkabluelightasa
reminderandpreventfurthermeasurements.
e. Thestatuslightwillturnsolidgreenwhenthescannerisreadytomeasurethenextbox.

ItispossibletoretrievethesedatafromtheBoxDimPCapplication.Historicaldataarepreserveduntil
storagespaceiswithing90%ofcapacity.Whenthishappens,olderdataaredeletedtomakeroomfor
newdata.Thedatamaintenanceprocessiscompletelyautomatic.NOTE:thedateandtimeforevery
measurementarestoredinUniversalTime(UTC).Remembertoadjustthesearchparametersto

surface.Ifanyoftheedgeerrorlightsareilluminatedafterameasurement,thescannerwasunableto
resolvetheedgeoftheobjectassociatedwiththelight.Forexample,iftheleftedgeerrorlightis
illuminated,thescannercouldnotseetheleftedgeoftheobject.Repositiontheobjectsothattheedge
associatedwiththeblinkinglightisclosertothecenterofthescalethenmeasureagain.
Ifrepositioningtheobjectcausestheoppositeedgelighttolightup,theobjectistoobigforthescanner
tomeasure.

TheIolineBoxDimPCsoftwareisdesignedtoautomaticallycommunicatewithaBoxDimscanner
connectedtothePCbyUSBorviaanetwork.IftheSystemTrayBoxDimiconremainsred(neverturns
green)thentheapplicationcannotfindthescanner.Tryfollowingsuggestionstoresolvetheissue.
IfconnectedbyUSB:
1. CablesnotinsertedproperlyatthescannerorthePC.Unplugandre‐insertthecableatboth
endstoconfirmagoodconnection.
2. DamagedUSBcable.Replacethecabletoconfirmitisnotdamaged.
3. DamagedUSBportonPC.TryusingadifferentUSBportonthePC.ConnectotherUSBdevices
tothesameporttoconfirmtheywork.
4. USBconfigurationissuesonthePC.ContactIolinesupportforhelpcheckingthattheUSBdrivers

tothePC.
4. DHCPdisabledonnetworkrouter.EnableDHCPonthenetworkroutersothatthescannercan
automaticallygetanIPaddressassigned.
IncorrectMeasurements
BoxDimonlymeasuressquareandrectangularobjectsthatfitinsideofthedimensionallimitsstatedin
thisguideandprintedonthebackofthemachine.Itworksbestwithobjectsthathavemattesurfaces
likecardboardandhavewritingorothermarkingsthatbreakupfeaturelesssurfaces.IfBoxDimis
makingincorrectmeasurements(morethan0.5incheserror)thenchecktheobjecttoconfirmitisnot
madeofareflectivematerial,ithaswelldefinededges,andhassomemarkingsonthesurfacefacingthe
scanner.Rotatingtheobject90°inoneormoreaxesandremeasuringcanhelpresolvemeasuring
problems.
