INSTALLATION
Mount the speakers
1. Remove the machine screws (A) from the clutch
handle assembly (Figure 1) and the brake handle
assembly (Figure 2).
CAUTION:Removal of both of these screws will allow the
assemblies to come off the handlebar. We suggest you
remove and replace just one screw at a time.
2. (Figure 3) Using the supplied replacement allen head
screws B that match your existing thread configuration, the
washers C, and the spacers D, remount the brake and
clutch handle assemblies with the speakers added (As
shown in Figures 1 and 2).
NOTE:If your motorcycle handlebar control clusters do not
use the normal attachment configuration you will need to
purchase two (2) J&M handlebar clamp kits #HCL-01.
3. Run the speaker wires down the handlebar along side
the existing stock wiring harness.
Make the electrical connections (See diagram)
4. Connect the power wire (with fuse holder) to a switch-
able power source or accessory terminal so that the speak-
ers are automatically turned off when the ignition is turned
off. Connect the black wire to a frame ground (not to the
battery negative). If it becomes necessary to replace the
fuse, use a 10 amp fuse.
5. Connect the aux audio input cable to the harness per
diagram. Use the supplied audio input cable extension if
needed.
OPERATION
Setting the music controls
Turn on the ignition key and hold down on the “volume up”
switch for five seconds. Plug in the aux audio source
(MP3/Walkman/Etc.) and raise its own volume to the
highest possible level before distortion. Finally, using the
speaker mounted volume control switches, lower the vol-
ume to a comfortable listening level. You’re now ready to
go.
Further volume adjustments while riding should be made
only with the speaker mounted volume control switches.
NOTE:When the ignition switch is turned off, and then
back on, the volume of the amplified speakers will reset
to 50% of maximum, regardless of the previous volume set-
ting.
NOISE AND INTERFERENCE
Motorcycle audio systems by their very nature can be
noisy. While we do not guarantee this system to be com-
pletely free from electrical noise and interference, we have
taken many steps to achieve that goal: The power supply
system is well filtered, the units are shielded in their metal
containers, and the cables associated with the units are
shielded.
Most modern day motorcycles have resistor-type spark
plugs installed by the factory. It may be necessary to
insure that resistor-type spark plugs are installed on your
motorcycle.
