All personnel involved in the installation, operation and maintenance of
electronic equipment or those who train personnel on such equipment,
have a duty to know the following safety precautions.
Attention! Read Carefully Before Installation
Your vessel’s radar system has a power supply that can injure or kill.
Never assume power to the radar system is off.
Always consult your vessel's wiring schematics.
Secure power to your vessel's Radar System by placing the power
breaker in the OFF or OPEN positions.
Remove all fuses (even spares) from circuits where a switch might
unintentionally be closed.
Verify power is secured by testing the circuit with a multimeter.
Preventing Electrostatic Discharge Damage
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage equipment and impair
electrical circuitry. It occurs when electronic components are handled
improperly and can result in partial or entire failures.
Always follow ESD-prevention procedures when removing and
replacing IR2-BB cables.
Ensure that the target computer chassis is electrically connected to
the vessel's ground.
Wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap, ensuring that it makes good skin
contact.
Connect the clip to an unpainted surface of the target computer
chassis frame to safely channel unwanted ESD voltages to the
vessel's ground.
To properly guard against ESD damage and shocks, the wrist strap
and cord must operate effectively.
If no wrist strap is available, ground yourself by touching the metal
part of the target computer chassis.

Nobeltec®InSight Radar 2 - Black Box (IR2-BB)™ Product Description
Jeppesen Marine’s Nobeltec®InSight Radar 2 - Black Box (IR2-BB)™
radar solution provides high-resolution radar data and functionality in
conjunction with Nobeltec Navigation Software.
The IR2-BB receives radar data from the Radar Head Unit. It then
conditions and digitizes raw radar signals and converts radar echo data
into digital radials.
Data from the IR2-BB is transmitted over a high-quality USB cable to a
USB 2.0 port on any new or existing navigation computer or laptop that is
similarly equipped.
IR2-BB connection specifications match those of many of the industry’s
leading X- or S-band radar models. Contact your Nobeltec product
distributor or a Jeppesen Marine salesperson to verify if the IR2-BB
interfaces with your radar.
How to Use this Installation Guide
The IR2-BB is designed for intuitive use and command execution. With a
familiar appearance similar to a common radar screen or plotter device,
users will quickly become adept at operating the IR2-BB system.
This Installation Guide covers the key installation information for the
IR2-BB. It is intended for an audience that possesses a mid-level, pre-
existing knowledge of computer operation and the principles of marine

IR2-BB Functionality Defined
The IR2-BB operates as a fully integrated “slave” to an existing radar
plotter. With an open loop connection to a previously installed plotter, the
slave listens to signals that are passed from the transceiver to the plotter.
The IR2-BB unit digitizes the video, trigger, vessel's heading marker
(SHM) and bearing pulse (BP) subset of the signals. The resulting radar
data is processed by the Nobeltec Navigation Software for display on
the target computer or it is shared with other Nobeltec software on other
computers.
