I.Descriptionof the apparatus
Distillationapparatusfor producingofdistilled water TYPE DP 4000 isidentified for
preparingofsmaller amountsofdistilled water.
Bywayofthisapparatusitispossibleto prepareapproximately 4litreofdistilled water atone
hour.
Apparatusisputtogether fromtwomainparts - glass partandelectricalpart. Bothpartsare
connected withplasticflange
Inupper partofglass partiscoolingcoil. Thisupper partispartitioned off thelower partwith
glass partition. Boilingoftap water proceedsinthelower partoftheglass part. Vapour
comesthroughthetubewhichisconnected to thecentreofpartitionto upper partwhereis
cooled anddistilled water isdrained ofthedistillationapparatusthroughthenozzlewhichis
situated aboveglass partition..

III.General instructionsand safetyregulations
1. Toavoidpossiblehazardspaygoodattentionto thegeneralinstructionsandsafety
regulations.

gloves.
3. Read andfollowOperatingmanualcarefully step bystep.
4. Everyuser mustbeacquainted withthisOperatingmanualandkeep itwithinreachatall
times.
5. Thearea inwhichtheapparatusisto beused mustconformto theappropriateelectrical
regulations. Connecttheapparatusonly to theearthenplugsandsockets.

Do not operate the distillation apparatusunless it isproperly connected to an earthen

VI.Unpackingthe apparatus
−Opencartonbox
−Carefully removeupperpartofinteriorcovermade frompolyurethanefoamanliftup the
apparatusformthebox.
−Check theapparatusimmediately forglass breakage andotherdamage whichmayhave
occurred duringtransportation.
−Toeach package ofcomplete unit isattached Allenkey with wrenchwidths 3mm and
hoses see below:

−Whenyouwantto bringapparatusto otherplace neverholditbyside tube(6), holdonly
bodyofcondenser andthebase.
VII.Settingup the apparatus
−Theapparatussetup alwaysonasolidflatsurface, havearespectto thefactthatunder the
apparatuscantemperaturereachvalue 50°C
−Theapparatussetinadryenvironment.
−Thelower edge oftheapparatusmustbelevelwith, aboveedge ofthesink.
−Theminimumsafetydistance fromthesupply/water drainshouldbe1m, to avoidtherisk
ofsplashing.
−Never setup theapparatuscloser thanthis.
VIII.Installingof the Reservoir Bottle
Inorder to achieveconductivityofdistillatewater mentioned in„Technicaldata“apparatus
andtheReservoir Bottlemustformclosed system. Carbondioxide fromtheair dissolvesin
water andwouldcauseanincreaseinconductivity. Asuitablereservoir bottleandbottletop
areavailableasanoriginalaccessory(see XV.Orderingdatafor accessories)
−Fitglass stopcock (1) to theholenear thebottomofthereservoir bottle(2).
−Place reservoir bottleto therightoftheapparatus.
−Outletofthestopcock mustbeattainablefor takingofdistilled water.
−Fitthetubingconnection(3) to thehead ofthebottle.
−Fitthesupplied siliconetubingto thetubingconnection(3)
−Connectfree endofsiliconetubingto thetubingconnectionofthedistillatedraintube(4).
IX. Protective cap
Unscrew theprotectivecap (5) andplace itfor storage onthebaseoftheunitbehindthelevel
tube(6).

X.Connectingof the Tubing
UsethePVCtubingsupplied for theconnections.
Note
Dip the end ofthe PVC tubing into hot water(approximately 80 °C)forabout 3minutes
beforeuse.Thiswill make the tubing flexible sothat it can easily fitted on the glass tubing
connection.
Connectingof the coolingwater supply
−Fittheendofthetubingsupplied (outer diameter 19 mm) to thebent tubingconnection
(7)ofthestill body.
−Lead thetubingto thewater tap andinacaseofnecessitycutitoff to suitablelength.
−Fitthesecondendofthetubingto thewater tap.
Connectingof the water drainage
Waterfrom the cooler(15)isled fromthe coolerto the tubing (6), which isalsosupplierof
the waterto the evaporator.Surpluswaterisled by the bent tubing connection (8) to the sink.
The waterlevel in the evaporatorisgiven by position ofthe bent tubing connection (8)on the
tubing (6).
−FittheendofthePVCtubing(outer diameter 19 mm) supplied to overflowtubing
connection(8)
−Thesecondendlead to thesinkandinacaseofnecessitycutitoff to suitablelength.
−Insertthesecondendto thesinkandsafethetubeagainstfallingoutoff thesink
−Don’tallowthetubingsag.
Attention:When you arefitting the end ofPVC tubing on the overflowtubingconnection(8)
supportthe level tube (6) with yourhand to avoid glass breakage.
To connectthe outletvalve (9)
Fit oneend ofPVCtubing(outer diameter 14 mm) to theoutletvalve(9) cutthesecondend
off atsuitablelengthandinsertthisendto thesinkandsafeitagainstfallingout.
XI.PuttingintoOperation
Preparingtothe operation
Makesure
−Make surethatmain switch(10) isinthe„off“position(greenlamp“mains”donot
lighting).
−Thescrew cap (5) isunscrewed.

−Stopcock isclosed
−Thestopcock ofthereservoir bottleandtheoutletvalve(9) areclosed.
Plug the mainssupplyplug intothe mainssocket
To adjustthe water supply
−Slowly turnonwater tap to allowjustasmall amountofwater to flowthroughthe
overflow(rateofwater flowapproximately 0, 5to 1l/min).
−Assoonaswater intheevaporator (11) almostcoverstheheatingspiral:press themains
switch(10). Thegreenlamp„Mains“(12) will lightup.
−Assoonasthewater intheevaporator startsboiling, slowly reduce thewater supply at
thewater tap until steamstartsto escape fromthedegassingoutlet(13) atthetopofstill
body. Donot close water tap.
−Slowly increasethewater supply until itisjustsufficientto stopthesteamfromescaping
−Thewater supply isthusoptimally adjusted
Note:
When operating the apparatusforthe firsttime, let it run distilling in distilling mode forone
hour. Discardthe distillate.
Attention
Do not touch the still body. Dangerofburns.
Attention
Riskofelectric shock
Attention
Keep ofaccidental stroke ofthe hardmaterial to glass partof
distilling apparatus. Thereis hazardofbreakage and in the case
when it occurs in time ofoperating ofthe apparatusorshortly
afterit’sswitching of, thereisriskofscalding too.
XII.Interruptionof water supply
Ifthereisinsufficientsupplyingofwaterorifthewaterflowisinterrupted,steamwill start
escapingfromthedegassingoutlet(13). Thewaterlevelintheevaporatorwill drop.After
approximately 5minutestheheater will beautomatically switchoff.

Caution
−Closethe watertap.
−Switch off the apparatus(mainsswitch), and allowit to cool downforat least15
minutes.
−Clearthe defect in the watersupply.
−Switch off the temperaturelimiter:take apiece ofnon-conducting material (length
minimal 50 and maximal outside diameter3mm), insertit to the hole (14)on the back
side ofthe baseofthe apparatusand slightly press on it .Remove used piece ofnon-
conducting material from the hole (14).
−To continue distilling repeat the procedurestarting at XI. Putting into operation.
XIII. Toswitchoff
−Press themainswitch. Thegreenlampwill goout.
−Closethewater tap.
−Pull outmainssupply plug outofthemainssocket.
Caution
The waterstill musthave cooled downcompletely beforethe watercan be drained through
the outlet valve (9). Closeoutlet valve afterwards.
XIV.Cleaning
Deposits(e.g. lime) buildup duringthedistillationprocess ontheinterior partsofevaporator
(11). Thisgradually reducesthequalityofthedistillate.
Whenthereareconsiderabledepositsintheevaporator, or whenthequalityofthedistillateno
longer meetstherequirementsfor theintended application, theevaporator mustbecleaned.
Whenthereareheavydepositsinthecoolingspiral, theymustbecleaned up latter;these
depositshowever donot affectthequalityofthedistillate.
Producer cannot acceptanywarrantyclaimsiftheheater isdamaged asaresultofoverheating
becausetheapparatushasnot beensufficiently cleaned.
Thefollowingitemsarerequired for cleaning:
−protectiveclothing, glovesandgoggles
−asuitablefunnel
−afunnelstand, minimallength70 cm
−agraduated jug ofminimalcapacity2litters
−asuitablevesselfor thedisposaloftheaceticacid

−aceticacid, 10 - 50 %
−tape water for rinsing
Warning
Disconnect apparatusfrom the mainsby pulling plug out ofthe socket beforecleaning.
Thereisriskofcorrosive burns. Wearprotecting clothing, glovesand gogglesduring
cleaning. Disposeofthe acetic acid in accordance with approved procedures. Foryour
personal safety werecommend disconnecting the mainssupply beforecleaning. Keep the
reservoirbottle (2) connected. Allowthe waterstill to cool downcompletely. Weare
recommending markthe apparatuswith table forinstance: “Do not switch on!Cleaning with
acid”.
To cleanthe evaporator
−Drainthewater outoftheevaporator throughtheoutletvalve(9) after theapparatushas
cooled downcompletely
−Closethevalveagain
−Hangtubingoftheoutletvalve(9) into thevesselfor thedisposaloftheaceticacid. For
safetyreasons, place thevesselinareceivingtank.
−Screw thescrew cap (5) tightly onto thepressurecompensationopeningofthelevel
tube.
−Insertthefunnelinto thefree endofthetubingleadingfromtheoverflowtubing(8). If
necessary, diptheendofthetubinginto hotwater (approximately 80°C) for about3
minutesbeforefitting. Check thatfunnelfitstightly.
−Supportthefunnelinthestand. Thebottomofthefunnelconemustbelevelwiththe
distillatedraintube(4) (view pictureonthispage)
−Slowly pour inapproximately 1litter ofaceticacid10 - 50 %, usingthegraduated jug.
Fill thefunnelup to nomorethanonethirdofitscapacity, to avoidspilling. Fill the
evaporator up to nohigher thanthelower edge oftheofthedistillatedraintube(4). To
regulatethefillingrate: Place thefunnelinto ahigher positionto expeditethefillingof
theevaporator;returnthefunnelto alower positionto controltherateofadditionof
acidasitapproachesthelower edge ofthedistillatedraintube, whichpointmustnot be
exceeded.
Note
Take carethat no acid dripsinto the reservoirbottle.
Ifacid drip into the reservoirbottle, carefully rinsethe bottle and the bottle top.
−Assoonasthedepositshavedissolved draintheaceticacidoutoftheevaporator
throughtheoutletvalve(9) to thevessel.
−Closetheoutletvalve(9).
−Hangoutletvalvetubingback into thesink.

To rinse the evaporator
−slowly pour approximately onelitter oftap water into thefunnel
−carefully fill theevaporator up to thelower edge ofthedistillatedraintube(4)
−drainitthroughtheoutletvalve(9) andclosetheoutletvalveagain
−repeattherinsingthree times
−removethefunnel, andhangtheoverflowtubinginto thesink
−Unscrew thecap (5), andkeep itonthebaseoftheapparatus, behindtheleveltube
After cleaning
Lettheapparatusrunindistillingmode for onehour. Discardthedistillate.

To cleanthe coolingspiral (15)
−After theapparatushascooled downcompletely, drainthewater outoftheevaporator
throughtheoutletvalve(9). Theoutletvalve(9) mustremainopen.
−Hangtheendsoftheoutletvalve(9) andtheoverflowtubing(8) into thevesselfor
disposaloftheacid. For safetyreasons, place thevesselinareceivetank
−Screw thescrew cap (5) tightly onto thepressurecompensationopeningofthelevel
tube(6).
−Disconnectthewater supply tubingfromthetap andinsertthefunnelinto thefree end
ofthistubing. Check thatthefunnelfitstightly.
−Supportthefunnelinto thefunnelstand(see fig. onthispage). Thebottomofthefunnel
conemustbelevelwiththedegassingoutlet(13) (see fig. onthispage)
−Slowly pour inapproximately 300 ml ofaceticacid, 10 - 50 %, usingthegraduated jug.
Becarefully andavoidspilling.
After cleaning
Lettheapparatusrunindistillingmode for onehour. Discardthedistillate.
Caution!
Acetic acid flowsout outlet valve and
overflowtubing into the vessel.
−Assoonasthedepositshave
dissolved pour 300 ml oftap water
into thefunnel
−After theliquidhasflowed through
hangtheoutletvalveandthe
overflowtubingback into thesink.
Torinsethe cooling spiral
−Slowly pour approximately onelitre
oftap water into thefunnel.
−As soonasthewater hasflowed
throughcloseoutletvalve(9)
−Removethefunnel, andreconnectthe
water supply tubingto thewater tap.
−Unscrew thescrew cap (5), andkeep
itonthebaseoftheapparatus, behind
theleveltube(6).

XV.Returnof the apparatusfor the Repair
Carefully cleantheinstrument, andsenditto your supplier. Pleasedescribeyour complaintin
detail.
XVI.Disassembly and reassembly of the glass part
Disassembly
Drainall water fromtheapparatus. Tocarefully loosenall eightscrewsofthehalving clamping
ring. Use supplied Allen key. Screwsloosengradually, sothatthepressurein bothof thetwo
halvesofthering is asfar aspossibleuniform. Otherwise itmay lead to breakingof theglass
flange due to unevenpressure.
Loosenthescrewscompletely. Onehandgriptheglass partofthedistillationapparatusand
removethehalves of clampingring. Fromtheflange oftheglass stillsslip of siliconeo-ring
Reassembly
Insertasiliconeo-ring to thegrooves of thebase. Slipthesecondsiliconeo-ring over the
flange oftheglass partofthestill. Place flange ofthe glass partofthestill to the centreofthe
base. Theflange mustcompletely fitinto therecess inthe base. Putontheboth halves ofthe
clampingring. Theholes ofthe halves of clampingring mustbeexactly above theholesinthe
base and secondsiliconeo-ringmustfitinto thegrooveinthe halvesof clampingring. Insert
screwsto theholesofthe clampingring and gradually tightenthescrews withusingof Allen
key. Never fully tightenonehalfofthe clamping ringandsubsequently thesecondhalf. This
couldlead into anunevendistributionofpressure ontheflange oftheglass part ofthe
apparatus andcause ofbreakage. Tightenscrewsuntil thedistance betweenthelower edge of
the clampingring and upper edge ofthe base is approximately onemillimetre alongside entire
circumference.

XVIII.Guarantee
Producer gives12 monthguarantee for thisapparatus. V guarantee expiresifitwouldbe
evidenced, thatattendantdidnot followoperatingmanual. Guarantee doesnot beapplied in
caseofmechanicaldamage ofapparatusaswell.
