• Add suitable ground coffee to the
Coffee Container
7
using the
Measuring Spoon
11
and tamp down
using the Tamper
19
, to no higher
than the MAX level mark.
As an approximate guide, one spoonful
is sufcient for a single Espresso, two for
a double. The strength of the Espresso
depends upon how tightly the ground
coffee is compacted in the coffee
container. If it takes more than just a
few minutes for the coffee brew to ow
into the cups, then the ground coffee
has either been ground too nely, or has
been compacted too tightly in the Coffee
Container
7
.
• Place the Coffee Container
7
into
the Filter Holder
6
. Lock-in the lter
holder to the bayonet housing
5
, as
described in detail under “Before rst
use”.
• Place a cup on the centre of the Drip
Tray
9
.
• After a few minutes, the Espresso
Ready Indicator
16
will illuminate,
showing that the water has reached
the correct temperature for making
Espresso.
• For the rst Espresso only, allow a
total of 8-10 minutes for the Filter
Holder
6
and contents to warm up,
to achieve best results.
• Press the PUMP Switch
19
down to
switch ON - the PUMP ON indicator
20
will illuminate and, after a short
time, Espresso will ow from the Filter
Holder
6
.
• Stop the pouring by pressing the
PUMP Switch
19
down again to
switch OFF (upper position, indicator
goes out) and remove the cup. Repeat
if more than 1 cup is desired; ensure
that the Espresso Ready Indicator
16
is illuminated rst.
• Having made your Espresso, gradually
Espresso (Continued) loosen the Filter Holder
6
by
carefully turning it to the left; allow
it to cool before handling further.
Remove the Coffee Container
7
and
dispose of the contents. Wash through
with cold water before returning to
the Filter Holder
6
.
NOTE
•
A ‘fail-safe’ mechanism prevents
boiling dry when the water tank is
empty - just unplug the machine,
remove the water tank and rell
.
Using pods
Your coffee maker can make Espresso
using 44mm paper Espresso pods,
available from all good stores. These
provide an exact dose of correctly
ground coffee, pre-weighed and pressed
between two layers of ltering paper.
The method of use is very similar
to that for ground coffee, so the
instructions are summarised below, with
only the differences described in detail.
• Fill the Water Tank
2
to the MAX
level .
• Remove the pod from its wrapping
and place in the receptacle in the
centre of the Pod Holder
8
.
• Place the Pod Holder
8
into the
bayonet housing
5
, as described in
detail under “Before rst use”.
• Place a cup on the centre of the Drip
Tray
9
.
• Follow the rest of the instructions for
“Using ground coffee”, except the Pod
Holder
8
is used instead of the Filter
Holder
6
and Coffee Container
7
.
Milk frothing for Cappuccino or latte
• Ensure switches
17
and
19
are OFF (in
their upper position).
• Slide the Water Tank
2
upwards and
remove. Fill to the MAX level shown
on the casing with cold water. Replace
the water tank, ensuring that the
valve at the base is properly seated.

a small brush can be used to clear any
remaining grounds, and the holder can
then be rinsed under a cold tap. If the
small hole in the ow control spacer
in the centre of the Filter Holder
6
is
clogged, it may be cleaned with a pin.
Check that the rim of the lter holder
and the underside of the top ange of
the coffee container are clean and will

initial heating).
• After a few minutes, the Steam Ready
Indicator
18
will illuminate, to
show that the heating for steam is
completed.
• Place an empty heat-resistant jug
under the Steam Nozzle
4
and turn
the Steam Control Knob
21
anti-
clockwise to maximum. A little water,
followed by a strong jet of steam will
be emitted from the Steam Nozzle
4
. Turn the Steam Control Knob
21
clockwise to minimum and dispose of
contents.
• Place a heat-resistant jug containing
milk to be frothed under the Steam
Nozzle
4
.
• CAUTION: TAKE PRECAUTIONS
TO AVOID SCALDING FROM HOT
WATER AND STEAM DISCHARGED.
• Immerse the Steam Nozzle
4
in the
jug of milk close to the bottom and
slowly turn the Steam Control Knob
21
anti-clockwise. The desired volume
of froth can be achieved by varying
the position of the steam nozzle in
the jug. (Ensure that the Steam Ready
Indicator
18
is illuminated when
frothing the milk).
• Return the Steam Control Knob
21
clockwise to minimum.
Making further shots of Espresso
