About this Document
This document contains release notes for the Telchemy TePM Controller Release 1.3 for use with
the TePM Agent Release 2.0 or later for the Juniper®M Series and MX Series Routers. The
release notes are structured as follows:
•New Features in TePM Controller Release 1.3
•Changes in default behavior in TePM Controller Release 1.3
•Issues in the TePM Controller Release 1.3
•Errata and Documentation Updates in TePM Controller Release 1.3
New Features
The TePM Controller Release 1.3 is the first release of the TePM Controller for use with the
TePM Agent running on Juniper M and MX series routers running Junos OS Release 10.0. The
TePM Controller includes the ability to define a variety of test types, schedule the tests to execute
between two TePM Agents or between a TePM Agent and a target network device/server, and
analyze the test results. The TePM Controller currently supports the following test types:
•VoIP (SIP signaling)
•Ping (ICMP Echo)
•Path diagnostics
•Trace route
•DNS
•DHCP
•HTTP
•POP3
•SMTP
The TePM Controller also provides functionality for assigning TePM Agents licenses and logging
agent/test status information.
All of the data collected by the TePM Controller is stored in a SQL database for trend analysis
and troubleshooting purposes.
Changes in Default Behavior
The TePM Controller Release 1.3 is the first release of the TePM Controller. No change in
default behavior is present.

Outstanding Issues
The current TePM Controller software is 1.3.024. The TePM Controller requires Sun/Oracle Java
Runtime Edition 1.6 update 5 or later (32-bit version only). The TePM Controller may only be
installed on the following operating systems with the Sun/Oracle JRE installed:
•RedHat Enterprise Linux v5/CentOS 5.x
•Microsoft Windows XP/Vista
•Mac OS X Leopard (10.5)/Snow Leopard (10.6)
All Operating Systems
Java Virtual Machine
•The TePM Controller may periodically generate heap space or random exceptions in the
tepmDebug.log. If these errors start to occur, increase the JVM heap memory
configuration by adding the -Xms256m -Xmx512m options to the command line used to
start the TePM Controller.
•The TePM Controller does not execute correctly on a 64-bit version of the Sun/Oracle
JRE.
SQL Database
•The TePM Controller should be configured to use Oracle 10g and PostgreSQL 8.x as the
DBMS supporting the Controller as opposed to the in-system HSQL DB. Using the in-
system HSQL DB will cause the host system performance to dramatically degrade after
receipt of about 8,000 to 10,000 call records.
•If the connection to the SQL database is lost while the Controller is running and a user is
actively logged in, the Controller will ‘hang’ (become unresponsive to mouse movements/
button clicks and keyboard key presses) until connectivity to the database is
reestablished.
TePM Agent/Test Point Management
•The TePM Controller displays the uptime of the multiservices PIC hosting the TePM
Agent in a Juniper M Series or MX series router as opposed to the router uptime.
VoIP Test Configuration
•The status of the interface-oriented SIP registration is not displayed in the Controller user
interface. As a result, it is unclear whether the SIP configuration information specified in
the Controller is valid for the interface.
•The SIP interface-oriented configuration disappears (is reset) after the TePM Agent is
restarted. The SIP configuration specified by the Controller for a TePM Agent is not

properly persisted on the TePM Agent and hence is lost when the TePM Agent is
restarted.
DHCP Test Results
•The TePM Controller does not currently decode/present all of the DHCP options returned
in the results of a DHCP test.
HTTP Test Results
•HTTP tests initiated from the Controller may incorrectly report test successful test
completion when the URL requested cannot be located. The TePM Controller classifies
an HTTP test as successful as long as a TCP connection is established to the host
specified in the URL and a 3XX, 4XX or 5XX error is returned by the HTTP server.
POP3 Test Results
•POP3 tests initiated from the Controller may incorrectly report successful test completion
when incorrect authentication credentials (username or password) are supplied. The
TePM Controller classifies a POP3 test as successful as long as a TCP connection is
established to the target server and the server progresses to the authentication stage of
the POP3 protocol.
SMTP Test Results
•SMTP tests initiated from the Controller may incorrectly report successful test completion
when the SMTP server generates relay errors. The TePM Controller classifies a SMTP
test as successful as long as a TCP connection is established to the target server and it
is able to exchange SMTP command primitives with the server.
•SMTP tests initiated from the Controller may incorrectly report successful test completion
when incorrect authentication credentials (username or password) are supplied. The
TePM Controller classifies a SMTP test as successful as long as a TCP connection is
established to the target server and it is able to exchange SMTP command primitives
with the server.
Linux Operating Systems
Licensing
•The TePM Controller MUST be executed with root permissions on Linux in order for the
licensing to work properly.

Errata and Documentation Updates
There are no errata or documentation updates required for the TePM Controller Release 1.3.
