Selecting fine audio equipment such as the unit you've just
purchased is only the start of your musical enjoyment. Now
it’s time to consider how you can maximize the fun and
excitement your equipment offers. This manufacturer and the
Electronic Industries Assoctation’s Consumer Electronics
Group want you to get the most out of your equipment by
playing it ata safe level. One that lets the sound come through
loud and clear without annoying blaring or distortion — and,
most importantly, without affecting your sensitive hearing.
Sound can be deceiving. Over time your hearing “comfort
level” adapts to higher volumes of sound. So what sounds
“normal” can actually be loud and harmful to your hearing.
Guard against this by setting your equipment at a safe level
BEFORE your hearing adapts.
To establish a safe level:
¢ Start your volume control at a low setting.
* Slowly increase the sound until you can hear it comfortably
and clearly, and without distortion.

have
established
a
comfortable
sound
level:
* Set the dial and leave it there.
Taking a minute to do this now will help to prevent hearing
damage or loss in the future. After all, we want you listening
for
a
lifetime.

Used wisely, your new sound equipment will provide a lifetime of
fun and enjoyment. Since hearing damage from loud noise is often
undetectable until it is too Jate, this manufacturer and the Electronic

Cleaning
the
Unit
If
the
front
panel
gets
dirty,
turn
off
the
power
and
wipe
the
panel
with
a
dry
silicon
cloth
or
soft
cloth.
ACAUTION
Do
not
wipe
the
panel
with
a
hard
cloth
or
a
cloth
dampened
by
volatile
solvents
such
as
paint
thinner
and
alcohol.
They
can
scratch
the
surface
of
the
panel
and/or
cause
the
indicator
letters
to
peel
off.
Cleaning
the
Faceplate
Terminals
(For
KDC-S3007)
If
the
terminals
on
the
unit
or
faceplate
get
dirty,
wipe
them
with
a
dry,
soft
cloth.
Cleaning
the
CD
Slot
As
dust
tends
to
accumulate
in
the
CD
slot,
clean
it
every
once
in
a
while.
Your
CDs
can
get
scratched
if
you
put
them
ina
dusty
CD
slot.
Lens Fogging
Right
after
you
turn
on
the
car
heater
in
cold
weather,
dew
or
condensation
may
form
on
the
lens
in
the
CD
player
of
the
unit.
Called
lens
fogging,
CDs
may
be
impossible
to
play
In
such
a

remove
the
disc
and
wait
for
the
condensation
to
evaporate.
If
the
unit
still
does
not
operate
normally
after
a
while,
consult
your
Kenwood
dealer.

check that there are not any burrs stuck to

* Remove CDs from the unit when not
listening to them for a while, and put them
back in their cases. Do not pile up CDs that
are removed from their cases or prop them
against something.

Basic
operations
(See
page

Turning on the power:
Press either the CD or TUN button.
Turn
the
power
on
before
completing
the
following
procedures.
Turning off the power:
Press
the
PWR
OFF
button
for
at
least
one
second.
increasing Volume:
Press the “A button to turn up the volume.
Decreasing Volume:
Press the \ button to turn down the volume.

This function allows you to turn down the volume quickly.
Turning Attenuator On/Off:
Press the ATT button to switch the attenuator on and off.
When the attenuator is on, the ATT indicator blinks.
When the attenuator is off, the volume returns to the original
level,
Turning the volume ail the way down deactivates the attenuator
function.
Loudness
This function amplifies low and high tones when the volume
is turned down.
The LOUD indicator lights up when the loudness function is
on.
Turning Loudness On/Off:
Press the LOUD button to switch the loudness on and off.
Tuner features (See page 8)
You can choose from three tuning modes: auto seek, preset
station seek, and manual. The “Auto1” indicator lights up
when auto seek tuning is selected, and the “Auto2” indicator
lights when preset station seek tuning is selected.
Selecting Tuning Mode:
Press the AUTO button.
Each
time
you
press
the
AUTO
button,
the
mode
switches
as
follows.

MANUAL (Manual Tuning)
Tuning:
Press the TUN button to turn the radio on.
2 Press either the FM or AM button to select the band.
Each time you press the FM button, the band switches
between the FM1, FM2 and FM3 (which are used for groups of
preset stations).
Press the AM button to select the AM band.
3 Auto Seek Tuning
Press the mt button to seek higher frequencies.
Press the <4 button to seek lower frequencies.
¢ Preset Station seek tuning
Press the »mi button to move to the next preset Station (.e.,
the one with the next highest number), and the @<@ button to
move to the last preset station (1.e., the one with the next
iowest number)
¢ Manual Tuning
Press the rm button to increase the frequency by one step.
Press the d<@ Dutton to decrease the frequency by one step.

The ST indicator lights up when stereo broadcasts are being
received

Store
the
frequency
of
a
station.
You
can
then
recall
that
station
with
a
single
touch
of
a
button.
Ciean
Reception
System
Circuit
(CRSC)
Temporarily
have
reception
switched
from
stereo
to
mono
to
reduce
multi-path
noise
when
listening
to
the
FM
station.
The
MC
indicator
lights
up
when
CRSC
is
off.
Turning CRSC On/Off:
Press
the
CRSC
button
for
at
least
one
second
to
turn
the
function
on
and
off.
Strong
electrical
fields
(such
as
from
power
lines)
may
cause
unstable
sound
quality
when
CRSC
is
turned
on.
In
such
a
situation,
turn
it
off.

Recalling
a
Preset
Station:
Press
the

the
recalled

is
displayed.
You
can
store
six
stations
in
each
of
the
FM
1,
FM2, FM3.
and
AM
bangs.
Auto Memory Entry
You
can
automatically
store
all
the
receivable
frequencies
in
the
band
currently
being
listened
to,
and
then
recall
them
with
the
touch
of
a
button
tater.
This
function
is
especially
useful
when
you
are
travelling
and
do
not
know
what
stations
are
available.
Up
to
six
frequencies
can
be
stored
this
way.

for
which
you
want
to
store
stations.

AME
button

least

seconds
to
start
auto
memory
entry.
The
numbers
of
the
preset
station
buttons
are
shown
in
order,

all
the
stations

then
plays

until you reach the one that you want to listen to.

Repeat playing the track currently being listened to.
Turning Repeat Play On/Oft:
Press the REP button to switch repeat play on and off.
The REP indicator lights up when repeat play is turned on.
The track number currently being heard blinks in the display.
Repeat play 1s canceled when you stop playing the disc.

Successively play the beginning of each track on a disc until
you find the track that you want to listen to.
Turning Track Scan Cn/Off:
Press the SCN button to switch track scan on and off
The SCN indicator lights up when track scan ts turned on.
The first 10 seconds of each track will be played, in order
The track number currently being heard blinks in the display
Stopping to Listen to the Track Being Scanned:
Press the CD or SCN button again to stop the scan and keep
on listening to a track normally.
* Track scan !s canceled when you stop playing a disc.
¢ Track scan only scans each track on a disc once.
Random Play
Play all the tracks on the current disc in random order.
1 Press the RDM button to switch random play on and off.
The RDM indicator lights up when random play is turned on.
The track number will change over and over in the display as
the next track 's being selected.
When the track has been selected, play will begin.
The selected track number blinks in the display as it is being
played.
2 To change the track being heard, press the IH button.
Another track will be selected and played.
Random play is canceled when you stop playing a disc.

Audio Control Setting
Adjust various parameters of sound quality.
1 Press the AUD button to enter the contro! mode.
Each time the AUD button is pressed, the adjustment mode
display changes as follows:
i Bass » Treble ® Balance » Fader » Volume a)
If you do not move to step 2 in five seconds, the unit will
switch back to the volume adjustment mode (that is the
normal mode).
NOTE | Source tone memory
Each source (CD, FM and AM) has its own memory in which to
Store the bass and treble tone settings.
The settings made for a particular source are recalled
automatically whenever you use that source (for example, FM
mode uses the tone settings made for FM, AM for AM, etc.).
2 Press the \“/A buttons to adjust the mode shown in the
display.
Use the following table as a guide for adjusting the settings in
each mode.

Function of the KDC-S3007
Disabled System Indicator (DSi)
A
red
indicator
will
blink
on
the
unit
after
the
faceplate
is
removed, warning potential thieves. The factory default for
this function is ON.
Turning Disabled System Indicator On/Off:
Turn the power of the unit off.
2 While pressing buttons #1 and #3 at the same time, press the
TUN button.
Repeat steps 1 and 2 above to turn DS! back on.

Theft Deterrent Faceplate
The
faceplate
of
the
unit
can
be
detached
and
taken
with
you,
helping
to
deter
theft.

Removing the Faceplate:
Press the release button.
The faceplate is unlocked, allowing you to detach it.

The
faceplate
is
a
precision
piece
of
equipment
and
can
be
damaged
by
shocks
or
jolts.
For
that
reason,
keep
the
faceplate
in
its
special
Storage
case
while
detached.

* Do not expose the faceplate or its storage case to direct
sunlight or excessive heat or humidity. Also avoid places with
too much dust or the possibility of water splashing.
Reattaching the Faceplate:

Align
the
proyections
on
the
unit
with
the
grooves
on
the
faceplate
2 Push the faceplate in uotihit clicks.
The
faceplate
1s
locked
in
place,
allowing
you
to
use
the
unit.

Do not use any accessories other than those provided with your
unit. If you use other accessories, you may damage the unit.

To
prevent
a
short
circuit,
remove
the
key
from
the
ignition
and
disconnect
the
©
battery.
Make
the
proper
input
and
output
wire
connections
for
each
unit.
Connect
the
speaker
wires
of
the
wiring
harness.
Connect the wiring harness wires in the following order: ground,
battery, ignition.
Connect the wiring harness connector to the unit.
Install the unit in your car.
Reconnect the © battery.
Press the reset button.

ACAUTION
*
If your car's ignition does not have an ACC position, connect
the ignition wires to a power source that can be turned on and
off with the ignition key. If you connect the ignition wire to a
power source with a constant voltage supply, as with battery
wires, the battery may die.
If the fuse blows, first make sure the wires aren't touching to
cause a short circuit, then replace the old fuse with one with
the same rating.
Do not let unconnected wires or terminals touch metal on the
car or anything else conducting electricity. To prevent a short
circuit, do not remove the caps on the ends of the unconnected
wires or the terminals.
Connect the speaker wires correctly to the terminals to which
they correspond. The unit may be damaged or fail to work if you
share the © wires or ground them to any metal part in the car.
After the unit is installed, check whether the brake lamps,
blinkers, wipers, etc. on the car are working properly.

Insulate
unconnected
wires
with
vinyl
tape
or
other
similar
material.

If you connect the ignition wire (red) and the battery wire
(yellow) to the car chassis (ground), you may cause a short
circuit, that in turn may start a fire. Always connect those wires
to the power source running through the fuse box.

When only two speakers are being connected to the system, connect
the connectors either to both the front output terminals or to both the
rear output terminals (do not mix front and rear}. For example, if you
connect the i+: connector of the left speaker to a front output terminal,
do not connect the :- connector to a rear Output terminal.

unstable, it may malfunction (for example, the sound may skip).

Cars
1 Refer to the section "Removing the hard rubber frame" and
then remove the hard rubber frame.
2 Align the holes in the unit (two locations on each side) with the
vehicle mounting bracket and secure the unit with the
accessory Screws.
T: Toyota cars
N: Nissan cars
ACAUTION
* Do not use your own screws. Use only the screws provided. If
you use the wrong screws, you could damage the unit.
+ Damage may occur if a screwdriver or similar tool is used with
excessive force during the installations.

frame
and
pull
it
forward
as
shown
in

B Screwing the Faceplate on the Unit
If you want to fasten the faceplate to the main unit so that it
does not fall off, insert the provided screw {04 « 16mm) in the
hole shown below.

ACAUTION
Never insert the phillips pan head screw (04 x 16mm) in any
other screw hole than the one specified. If you insert it in another
hole, tt will contact and may cause damage to the mechanical
parts inside the unit.

Troubleshooting Guide

PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE
The power does not turn on. The fuse has blown.
No sound can be heard, or the
volume Js low.
Attenuator is turned on.
What
might
seem
to
be
a
malfunction
in
your
unit
may
just
be
the
result
of
slight
misoperation
or
miswiring.
Before
SOLUTION
After checking for short circuits in the wires, replace the
fuse with one with the same rating.
Turn off Attenuator.
The fader or balance settings are set all the way to one
side.
Reset the fader or balance settings.
The input/output wires or wiring harness are connected
incorrectly.
Reconnect the input/output wires or the wiring harness
correctly. See the section on "Connecting Wires to Terminals”
