SmartOne® Hand-held
Device Programmer
- For all generations of SmartOne devices
- For DS and KS series detectors
DESCRIPTION
The Hand-held Device Programmer provides a convenient
means to assign device address information and test device
operation. The Programmer is designed to support all
SmartOne intelligent and addressable devices, including DS/KS
Series Detectors. Programming adapters are provided in kit.
Note: Prior to using the Programmer, ensure that you have
the following accessories:
• SLC Interface Adapter
• AC Adapter (120V or 240V)
• AI/AO Module Programming Adapter for newer modules
• DS/KS Series Programming Adapter
• 4 NiMH Rechargeable AA Batteries
• Storage Case
MAIN MENU LEVEL SELECTIONS
To access Main Menu selections, press the <>and <>
buttons until the LCD display shows the desired selection, then
press <E>. There are four Main Menu selections:
•Single Addressing - Set an address for a single device at
a time.
•Sequential Addressing - Set an address range (with a
start address and end address), and give each device a
unique address within that range. Program multiple
devices quickly, and reduce the possibility of setting dupli-
cate addresses.
•Alarm Test - Test the alarm initiating responses of initiating
devices. A device that fails the Alarm Test should not be
installed.
•Options - Adjust LCD settings; show current firmware
version; adjust the Power-Off timer.
GENERAL MENU NAVIGATION
General menu navigation rules include the following keypad
instructions:
1. Press the <>and <>buttons to navigate the menu
levels.
2. Press <E> (Enter) to enter any sub-menu from any
higher level.
• Press the <>button to return to a previous menu.

CONNECTING TO VARIOUS SMARTONE DEVICES
Note: The power may be ON or OFF when connecting a SmartOne device to the Hand-held Programmer.
Older Generation Smoke/Heat Detectors
Snap the detector into the detector base, orient the index marker on the device to the five o’clock position, then rotate clockwise.
DS and KS Series Detectors
A fixture that allows the DS and KS Series Detectors to be programmed via the SmartOne Hand-held Programmer is
included with the programmer and also available separately (P/N 70-600000-110). The adapter is a base with an
attached wire and jack which plugs directly into the programmer. It does not mount onto the programmer. The detector
head is then attached to the connected base for programming. The following detector heads fit onto the fixture:
• DS-PS Intelligent Photoelectric Detector • KS-PS Intelligent Photoelectric Detector
• DS-HFS Intelligent Fixed Temperature Thermal Detector • KS-HD Intelligent Heat Detector
• KS-PHD Intelligent Combination Photoelectric Heat

Older Generation Addressable Input (AI) and Addressable Output (AO) Modules
Connect the legacy AI/AO Module Adapter to the detector base and rotate clockwise. Insert the AI or AO module into the adapter
with the terminal block facing left. Tilt the module into the recess of the adapter such that the terminal block screws make contact
with the spring-loaded probes; then snap the back of the module into the right half of the recess.
New Generation Addressable Input (AI) and Addressable Output (AO) Modules
A fixture that allows new generation AI and AO modules to be programmed via the SmartOne Hand-held Programmer
is included with the programmer and also available separately (P/N 06-220493-001). The adapter is a base with a
printed circuit board which fits directly onto the DS/KS Series Detector Programming Adapter (which then plugs directly
into the SLC Out port of the programmer.) It does not mount onto the programmer. An AI or AO module snaps into
place on the assembly, oriented with the 4-pin terminals at the top and 6-pin terminals at the bottom. The following
modules fit onto the fixture:
• Class A/2B Addressable Input Module • Single Addressable Output Module
• Class B Addressable Input Module • Dual Addressable Output Module
