LIMITED WARRANTY
STORCASE TECHNOLOGY, Incorporated (StorCase) warrants that its products wi be free
from defects in materia and workmanship, subject to the conditions and imitations set forth
be ow. StorCase wi , at its option, either repair or rep ace any part of its product that proves
defective by reason of improper workmanship or materia s. Repair parts or rep acement
products wi be provided by StorCase on an exchange basis, and wi be either new or
reconditioned to be functiona y equiva ent to new.
This warranty does not cover any product damage that resu ts from accident, abuse, misuse,
natura or persona disaster, externa power surge or fai ure, or any unauthorized disassem-
b y, repair or modification. StorCase wi not be responsib e for any software, firmware or other
customer data stored within, or interfacing with a StorCase product.
Duration of Warranty
Seven-Year Warranty: The fo owing StorCase products are covered by this warranty for
a period of seven (7) years from the origina date of purchase from StorCase or its authorized
rese er: a Data Express® removab e device enc osures and a StorCase interface cab es and
accessories specifica y intended for use with these products. Data Si o®, Data Stacker® and
InfoStation® products are covered by this warranty for a period of seven (7) years, excepting
the RAID contro er, power supp y, fan and b ower components, which are covered by the
three-year warranty described be ow.
Three-Year Warranty: The fo owing StorCase products are covered by this warranty for
a period of three (3) years from the origina date of purchase from StorCase or its authorized
rese er: a Rhino®JR externa expansion chassis, a RhinoJR removab e drive enc osures,
and a RAID contro er modu es. In addition, the fo owing components of the Data Express,
Data Si o, Data Stacker, InfoStation products are subject to warranty for a period of three (3)
years: a power supp ies, fans and b owers.
Warranty Claim Requirements
To obtain warranty service, the defective product must be returned to your oca authorized
StorCase dea er or distributor, or, with prior StorCase approva , to the StorCase factory
service center.
For defective products returned direct y to StorCase, a Return Materia Authorization (RMA)
number must be obtained by ca ing StorCase Customer Service at (714) 445-3455. The RMA
number must be prominent y disp ayed on the outside of the return package. Shipments must
be freight-prepaid and insured, and must inc ude the product seria number, a detai ed
description of the prob em experienced, and proof of the origina retai purchase date. Products
must be proper y packaged to prevent damage in transit. Damage resu ting from improper
packaging wi not be covered by this warranty. The StorCase factory service center is ocated
at 17650 Newhope Street, Receiving Dock, Gate #4, Fountain Va ey, CA 92780, U.S.A.

I TRODUCTIO
PackagingIn ormation
The StorCase Techno ogy SCSI-to-IDE RAID enc osure is shipped in a container designed to
provide protection and prevent damage during shipment. The unit was carefu y inspected
before and during the packing procedure at the factory. Evidence of any damage to the unit
shou d be reported to the shipper immediate y.
If the wrong mode has been received, p ease ca your rese er or StorCase at (800) 435-
0642 to arrange for a Return Materia Authorization (RMA). StorCase cannot accept returns
which do not disp ay an RMA number on the outside of the package. Return the unit with a
the origina packing materia s.
Before removing any component from its packaging, discharge any static e ectricity by
touching a proper y grounded meta object.
Serial Number
The unit is abe ed with a seria number. This number must be reported to the StorCase Customer
Service Representative in order to receive a Return Materia Authorization (RMA) for warranty
c aims. Locate the seria number abe and record the number in the space provided be ow.

CAUTION: The DS560/DS570 chassis contains NO USER SERVICEABLE parts inside
the unit. Refer ALL servicing to qua ified personne !
NOTES: The configuration and use of the SCSI-to-IDE RAID Contro er requires a
certain eve of expertise and experience on the part of the user/integrator.
Since there are many configuration options and variab es (ie. host p at-
forms, app ications, etc.), on y genera guide ines wi be discussed in
this User's Guide.
Refer to the Data Silo DS550 User's Guide, Data Express DE90i-A100
or DE110 User's Guide for additiona operating and insta ation informa-
tion. A so refer to the disk manufacturer's documentation for specific
information regarding the disks.
The StorCase Techno ogy Data Si o DS560 and DS570 SCSI-to-IDE RAID enc osures (Figure
1) are a cost-effective, high performance RAID so ution, incorporating the Data Si o expansion
chassis and Data Express removab e drive enc osures. The DS560 provides rugged and
re iab e housing for one (1) SCSI-to-IDE RAID contro er and eight (8) DE90i-A100s, whi e the
DS570 provides rugged and re iab e housing for one (1) SCSI-to-IDE RAID contro er and eight
(8) DE110s.

RAID Control Panel - Refer to Figure 5.
Key Lock/Drive Power Switch - Performs three (3) functions. The key ock
assures proper seating of the device carrier within the receiving frame, turns power
to the device ON and OFF, and prevents unauthorized remova or insta ation of the
carrier. For the computer to access data on the drive, the key ock must be turned
counterc ockwise to the ocked position.
Display and Control Panel (Figure 3) - The disp ay contains seven (7) ights
which provide the fo owing information:
Power ON - Steady g ow indicates that power is being supp ied to the Data Si o
chassis.
Temp Warning - F ashing red indicates that interna operating temperature has
reached 43° C (109° F). Audib e a arm (buzzer) wi a so sound.
NOTE: Warning message wi a so disp ay on the RAID Contro er LCD Screen (or
remote termina if Monitor Uti ity is used). Refer to Appendix C for further
information.
Blower 1 or 2 Failure - F ashing red indicates a b ower has fai ed. Audib e a arm
(buzzer) wi a so sound.
NOTE: Warning message wi a so disp ay on the RAID Contro er LCD Screen (or
remote termina if Monitor Uti ity is used). Refer to Appendix C for further
information.
Power Supply 1 Failure - F ashing red indicates first power supp y has fai ed.
Audib e a arm (buzzer) wi a so sound.
Power Supply 2 Failure - F ashing red indicates second power supp y has fai ed.
Audib e a arm (buzzer) wi a so sound.
Mute - When switch is depressed, a steady ye ow g ow indicates the a arm buzzer
has been disab ed. Depress again to enab e buzzer.
Reset - Depress switch to reset chassis and c ear any error conditions.

Front Panel Indicator LEDs (Figure 3A) - Indicator LEDs on the DE90i-A100
receiving frame front pane provide important operating information based on the
conditions isted in Tab e 1.

Unit ID Number and Activity Display Indicator(s) -Disp ay the physica address
of the DE110 device carrier if the carrier is nstalled and Locked into the receiving
frame or if the carrier is removed from the receiving frame. If the carrier is nstalled
but not Locked in the receiving frame, a "u" wi be disp ayed to indicate an un ocked
condition. The unit ID number is factory-set to "0" on both DE110 receiving frames.
A sma dot next to the unit ID number i uminates to indicate when the host computer
is accessing the data on the DE110 carrier. This dot wi f ash during communication
with the host computer (Figure 4B).

(1) Indicators A and B will alternately blink during the 10 second drive spin down/up period after the key has been turned on or off.
When the carrier has been unlocked from the receiving frame these lights will flash as the drive spins down. DO NOT REMOVE
THE CARRIER FROM THE RECEIVING FRAME DURING THIS PERIOD to prevent possible drive damage.

SCSI I/O Connectors - The DS570 comes equipped with two (2) U tra160 68-pin
HD connectors.
Host Ch. 1 - Connects to SCSI Host 1.
Host Ch. 2 - Connects to SCSI Host 2.
DB Connectors - The DS570 comes equipped with two (2) DB9 seria connectors.
(RS-232) - Connects to a VT-100/ANSI termina via a DB9-DB9 cab e (provided).
Refer to section "Monitor Utility" for further information.
(MODEM) - Connects to a modem for Page/FAX notification. Refer to section
"System Params Menu" for further information.
Power Supply Module(s) - Dua 400W auto-ranging power supp y modu es run
in Shared Mode which a ows both to operate at reduced wattage and ower
operating temperature. In the event that one power supp y shou d fai , the other wi
carry the fu oad.
Blower Vent(s) - Two (2) adjustab e dua -speed b owers (one in each power
supp y modu e) provide amp e coo ing of chassis (79 CFM Tota ).
Module Handle(s) - Provide a sturdy grip for the insta ation and remova of the
power supp y modu es.
WARNING: DO NOT USE MODULE HANDLES TO LIFT CHASSIS! These
hand es are specifica y designed for the insta ation and re-

speeds (Low & High) for each b ower. HIGH speed (factory defau t) is recom-
mended for high performance (10K RPM and higher) drives.
NOTE: In the event a b ower fai s, a ways set the speed of the remaining b ower
to HIGH.
