Getting Started
Before First Use
• Unpack the appliance but keep all packaging materials until you have made sure your new
double hotplate is undamaged and in good working order.
• Plastic wrapping can be a suffocation hazard for babies and young children, so ensure all
packaging materials are out of their reach.
• Unwind the cord to its full length and inspect it for damage. Do not use the appliance if the
appliance or its cord have been damaged or are not working properly.
• Make sure that the hotplate voltage (see rating plate) and the line voltage match.
• Read this manual to familiarise yourself with appliance. Pay particular attention to the safety
instructions on the previous pages.
• While the appliance is disconnected from the power supply, wipe the stainless steel surface
with a damp cloth or sponge to remove any dust that has accumulated during transport and
storage. Dry thoroughly.
• Place the appliance on a flat, dry and heat-resistant surface.
• With both temperature knobs turned to the OFF position, plug the power cord into an
appropriate power point.
• Turn both control knobs to maximum heat and let the hotplates heat up briefly to burn off any
oils from the manufacturing process.
• NOTE: The unit may emit a slight smell or smoke when it is first heating up. This is
due to the components being new and can be disregarded safely, it is entirely
harmless. Ensure there is adequate ventilation. Leave the unit powered on briefly
until all odor and/or smoke has dissipated, then turn the controls back to the OFF
position.

Getting Started (Cont.)
Using the hotplates
• Place the Double Hotplate on a flat, dry and heat-resistant surface.
• With both temperature knobs turned to the OFF position, plug the power cord into an
appropriate power point.
• Switch on the appliance by turning the relevant control knob to your desired heat setting. The
hotplate will start heating and the indicator light will come on. The appliance will turn off and
on periodically to maintain the set temperature.
• After use, unplug the appliance and let it cool down completely before cleaning.
Choice of hotplate
• Keep the following points in mind when choosing a hotplate for cooking.
• Try to match as closely as possible the diameter of your pots and pans with the diameter
of the hotplate. Using a pot with a small diameter on a large hotplate will leave the hotplate
exposed when it is hot; and cooking food in a large pot on a small hotplate will take longer.
• Your pots and pans should have a flat base. Do not use pans with a convex or recessed base.
• Make sure the base of your pot is dry before placing it on a hotplate.
• Do not lift up the pot lid unnecessarily during cooking to avoid depositing moisture on the
hotplate.
• Do not heat up a hotplate without pot or pan.
• Do not let pots boil dry, as this could damage the hotplate (and your pots).
CAUTION: HOT!
DO NOT touch the appliance surface.
It will be very hot while it is in use and when it is cooling down.
