GETTING UP AND RUNNING
Always keep the strap arou d your eck i the eve t that the camera is accide tally
dropped. A optio al leather eck strap, NS-DG1000, is also available from your Ko ica
Mi olta dealer. Availability varies with regio .
ATTACHING THE STRAP AND LENS CAP
Usi g your thumb a d i dex fi ger, pi ch the
outside tabs of the le s cap to remove or attach.
Whe the camera is ot i use, always replace the
le s cap.
Pass the e d of the eck strap through the strap eyelet o
the camera body (1).
Thread the strap through the
i side of the buckle as show (2).
Repeat with the other e d of the
strap.

INSERTING BATTERIES
I sert the batteries as i dicated o the diagram o the i side of
the battery-chamber door. Co firm the positive a d egative
battery termi als are orie ted correctly.
To ope the battery-chamber door, slide the lock to the ope
positio (1). Slide the door to the fro t of the camera (2) to release
the safety catch. Lift the door to ope (3).
This digital camera uses four AA-size alkali e or Ni-MH batteries. Do ot use other types
of AA batteries. The camera should be off whe replaci g batteries.
Close the battery-chamber door a d slide it toward the back of
the body (4) to e gage the safety catch. Slide the batter-chamber
lock to the close positio (5).

BATTERY CONDITION INDICATOR
This camera is equipped with a automatic battery-co ditio i dicator. Whe the
camera is o , the battery-co ditio i dicator appears o the mo itor. If the mo itor is
bla k, the batteries may be exhausted or i stalled i correctly.
AUTO POWER SAVE
To co serve battery power, the camera tur s off displays a d u ecessary fu ctio s if
a operatio is ot made withi a mi ute. To restore power, press a y butto or key, or
tur the exposure-mode dial to a other positio . The le gth of the auto-power-save
period ca be cha ged i sectio 1 of the setup me u (p. 86).
Full-battery i dicator - the battery is fully charged. This i dicator is
displayed for three seco ds o the mo itor whe the camera is tur ed o .
Low-battery i dicator - battery power is low. The mo itor will tur off
while the flash is chargi g to save power.
Low-battery war i g - battery power is very low. The mo itor i dicator is
red. The battery should be replaced as soo as possible. This war i g
automatically appears a d remai s o the mo itor u til the battery is
cha ged. The mo itor will tur off while the flash is chargi g to save
power. If power falls below this level, the battery-exhausted message will
be displayed just before the camera shuts dow . If the low-battery
war i g is displayed, movie recordi g ca ot be used.

CONNECTING THE OPTIONAL AC ADAPTER
The AC Adapter allows the camera to be powered
from a electrical household outlet. The AC
Adapter is recomme ded whe the camera is
i terfaced with a computer or duri g periods of
heavy use. AC Adapter model AC-1L is for use i
North America a d Japa , a d AC-11 is for use i
all other areas.

CHANGING THE MEMORY CARD
A SD Memory Card or MultiMediaCard must be i serted for the camera to operate. If
a card has ot bee i serted, a o-card war i g is displayed o the mo itor. For more
about memory cards see page 114.
Always tur off the camera a d co firm the access lamp is ot lit
before removi g a memory card; damage a d data loss may result.
1.I sert the memory card all the way i to the card slot a d release; the card should
catch i the slot. I sert the card so the face is toward the back of the camera. Always
push the card i straight, ever at a a gle. Never force the card. If the card does ot
fit, check that it is orie ted correctly.
2.To eject a memory card, press the card i to the slot a d release. The card ca the
be pulled out. Take care whe removi g the card as it becomes hot with use.
A memory card used i a other camera may have to be formatted before bei g used. If
the u able-to-use-card message appears, the card should be formatted with the
camera. A memory card ca be formatted i sectio 1 of the playback me u (p. 74).
Whe a card is formatted, all the data o the card is perma e tly erased. If the card-
error message appears, press the ce tral butto of the co troller to close the wi dow;
check the Ko ica Mi olta web site for the latest compatibility i formatio :

TURNING ON THE CAMERA AND DISPLAYS
Press the mai switch to tur the camera o . Pressi g the switch
agai tur s the camera off.
Arou d the mai switch is the mode switch. This switch is used to
cha ge betwee the recordi g a d playback modes as well as the
selecti g the betwee the mo itor a d viewfi der display.
Recordi g mode (Mo itor display) - the camera ca record images
a d the mo itor is viewed directly.
Playback mode (Mo itor display) - images ca be played back a d
edited. The mo itor is viewed directly.
To use the viewfi der i the playback mode, press a d
hold the flash mode butto (1) a d the press a d hold
the i formatio (i+) butto (2) u til the mo itor switches
to the viewfi der positio .
Camera otes
Recordi g mode (Viewfi der display) - the camera ca
record images a d the mo itor is viewed through the
viewfi der. The viewfi der has a built-i diopter. While
looki g through the viewfi der, tur the diopter-
adjustme t dial u til the mo itor image is sharp

cale dar.
SETTING THE DATE AND TIME
After i itially i serti g a memory card a d batteries,
the camera’s clock a d cale dar must be set. Whe
images are recorded, the image data is saved with
the date a d time of recordi g.
If the clock a d cale dar have ot bee set, a
message is displayed for a few seco ds each time
the camera is tur ed o . This message is also
displayed if the clock a d cale dar are reset whe
the camera is stored without batteries for a lo g
period.

SETTING THE MENU LANGUAGE
For customers i certai areas, the me u la guage
may have to be set. Press the me u butto (1) to
ope the me u; the appeara ce of the me u will
depe d o the positio of the camera’s co trols.
Navigati g the me u is simple. The up/dow a d
left/right keys of the co troller (2) move the cursor
a d cha ge setti gs o the me u. The ce tral butto
of the co troller selects me u optio s a d sets
adjustme ts.

20 BASIC RECORDING
BASIC RECORDING
While usi g the viewfi der or LCD mo itor, grip the camera
firmly with your right ha d while supporti g the body with
your left. Keep your elbows at your side a d your feet
shoulder-width apart to hold the camera steadily. Take care
ot to cover the le s with your fi gers or the strap.
HANDLING THE CAMERA
This sectio covers the basic operatio of this camera.
Thoroughly familiarize yourself with the operatio s i this
sectio before movi g o to the other sectio s i the
ma ual.
USING THE ZOOM LENS
The zoom lever co trols the le s (1).
Pressi g the right (T) side of the
lever will zoom i to the telephoto
positio of the le s. Pressi g the left
(W) side of the lever will zoom out to
the wide-a gle positio .
After zoomi g, the zoom scale is
displayed briefly. If the digital zoom
(p. 53) is active, the yellow sectio
of the scale i dicates the digital-
zoom ra ge.
