1.0 Introduction
The KSM-Multistoker Tuxedo complies with the law made by the authority concerned security on
boilers. This has given us the opportunity to become CE-marked according to the machinery directive
98/37/EF.
The KSM-Multistoker Tuxedo is validated by Danish Test Station For Small & Medium Bio fuel
Boilers.
The KSM-Multistoker Tuxedo has a very large heating surface which helps giving a good smoke
cooling.
The boiler is constructed in powerful plates and a lot of body bracing.
The KSM-Multistoker Tuxedo is delivered with automatic feeding system from an extern silo.
The burning chambers of the KSM-Multistoker Tuxedo are built in stones which can resist enormous
temperatures which the KSM-stoker is producing while it is operating.
The enormous burning temperatures which can reach about 1200°C in a KSM-Boiler contribute to burn
the smoke gas completely and grant a high-end output degree.
The nozzles in the KSM-Multistoker Tuxedo are constructed in stainless steel, because this material is
far more fire-resistant than normal steel.
The full modulating O2 steering-system has a setup according to the applicable rules.
The run instructions are illustrated on the following pages.
The upside of a KSM’s full modulating O2 steering-system is that the stoker always uses exactly the
power required for the applicable consumption of the boiler.
The amount of air is automatically adjusted in a way so it fits the actually consumption. Also the burning
fuel is regulated compared to receive signals from the O2 sensor in a way so the stoker always has the
correct deflagration.

2.0 Fuel.
The KSM-Multistoker Tuxedo is constructed to operate on wood pellets, as already mentioned above.
At the Danish Test Station for Small & Medium Bio fuel Boilers it was tested and approved of using
wood pellets with a water content of about 8%.
However, both our customers and we have made the experience that the use of grain will result in a very
fine economy.
2.1 Wood Pellets
Wood pellets are produced at an increasing number of places in this country, all types are equally
applicable. However, there may be a difference in the size offered by the various suppliers. For this
reason it is recommended, when changing fuel supplier, to check that the pellet size is correct and that the
proper air volume is added.
Always store the wood pellets in a dry place, otherwise they will crumble and leave quite a bit of sawdust.
2.2 Grain
Grain is very easy to store and, in addition, it burns well - but grain has the unfortunate quality that it
forms rather a lot of clinker during the combustion, and this clinker may cause some problems in the
combustion chamber. But if 1-2 % of calcium is added every time the fuel container is filled, this will
largely reduce the formation of clinker.
KSM would therefore suggest to remove the remaining clinker once every second week, or when needed.
The clinker volume will be different following the specific type of grain or corn applied, and may even
vary from one field to the other.
Wheat should be preferred as this type of grain will cause the smallest amount of ashes. The calorific
value is the same for the various types of grain.
2.3 Alternative Fuels.
The biomass fuel types combustible in your stoker plant are only limited by your imagination, among
them might be:
Wood pellets
Grain
Cocoa pellets
Peas
Olive stones
It should be noted that this plant was tested with wood pellets only at the Danish Technology Institute,
however KSM answers for grain as an excellent type of biomass fuel.

3.0 Control Panel
The new PCT400 control from KSM-Stoker A/S is helps making it easy to use your new boiler.
The control is equipped with a huge colour-monitor measuring 5,7"
The control is as standard equipment with its own little Web-server which gives the perfect opportunity to
fully monitor and operate with every kind of hardware which has access to the internet.
Smartphones, Ipad or PC it is possible with every on of them.
KSM suggests that you use "Mozilla Firefox" as your browser to grant full joy of the system.
On the screen-picture bellow it is obviously illustrated with a green LED when the single parts are
activated and if you stop the stoker screw the LED turns red.
Bellow screen there is an explanation of the different functions on the display.

3.1 Pushbuttons.
The panel is equipped with three pushbuttons which changes indications depending on where you are in
the program.
When the boiler is in the normal run screen the designations are as follows:
“↑” “↓” “MENU”
“↑”: Activates the stoker screw as long as the button is pushed.
“↓”: A short push and the stoker screw will stop (the LED turn red). If you push a little longer
the whole system will shut down. (Please notice chapter 7 concerned shutting down the
system).
“MENU” With this button the menu is activated and here it is possible for you to make your desired
adjustments. If you have had an alarm it will write “BACK” above the menu button. Please press this
button to leave the alarm.
With the “↑” and “↓” you can scroll to your desired adjustment. To make the adjustment please push the
“MENU” button.

4.0 Menu structure
The menu in our software PCT400 is designed in the same way as we know it from example Windows.
The menu is divided in manageable folders which are listed below.
“Run”, “Startup”, “Pause”, “Program”, “Accessories”, “Boiler”, “Test” and “Service”.
In every folder is parameter which can be adjusted or multiple subfolders in which there is parameters
which can be adjusted.
In the following chapters the folder structure will be illustrated and the function of every single parameter
is carefully explained.

4.1 Run.
The run chapter contains all parameters which is significance for the different functions in “Run”.
4.1.1 Set temperature.
In this chapter you can find all parameters concerned the set temperature while operating.
4.1.1.1 Set temperature °C
Setting of the boiler’s flow temperature
Please select: Menu / Run / Set temp / Set temp °C
The desired set temperature can be set minimum 70°C and maximum 95 °C
4.1.1.2 Go pause temp +°C
Setting of how many degrees the temperature is set above the boilers set temperature before the boiler
goes in pause mode.
Please select: Menu/ / Run / Set temp / +°C
It can be set from minimum 1°C but no maximum.
4.1.1.3 Back to run mode -°C
Setting of how many degrees the temperature is allowed to run below set temperature before you desire
the boiler to start again.
Please select: Menu / Run / Set temp / Back to run mode -°C
It can be set from minimum 1°C but no maximum °C.
4.1.1.4 Maximum output %
Which output do you desire the boiler to operate with no matter how delayed the boiler is.
Please select: Menu / Run / Set temp / Max output %
It can be set from minimum 1 % but no maximum.

4.1.1.5 Minimum output %
The lowest output which is desired the boiler to operate with. The ideal setting depends on the fuel and
the boiler’s installation. However as starting point we recommend to Please select 1 % because the
controller will modulate the boiler’s output from 1 % to 100 %.

It can be set from 1 % but no maximum
4.1.2 Stoker screw.
It contains all parameters which are related to the control system of the stoker screw in run.
4.1.2.1 Cycle time.
Is the time in total for the stoker screw’s run time and pause time. If the cycle time is chosen to 25 sec.
and the control system is set to run in five sec, then it will take 20 sec. before the screw runs again.

The time is free to be adjusted. However we recommend that it is set between 20 and 40 sec.
4.1.2.2 O2 / Manual controlled
If very difficult fuel is used, it might be an advantage to disconnect the O2 sensor and operate manually.
This is how to do so:

When the value is set to “0” the stoker screw is manually controlled compared to O2 measurements,
however, if you put in a value the stoker screw will be locked and not regulate.
4.1.2.3 Maximum fuel s.
To avoid that the burning head will be overfilled and that you can be in control with the system, it is
possible to limit how long time the stoker screw maximum is allowed to operate in “manually run”

The correct value for this parameter is found by reading how long time the stoker screw is operating when
the output is at 100 % and then add 30 % to this value.

4.1.2.4 Minimum fuel s.
It is also possible to adjust the stoker screw’s minimum fuel conveying.
Please select: Menu / Run / Stoker screw / Min. Fuel s.
Normally the value is set to 0,1 s. and only in special occasions another setting is selected.
4.1.3 O2.
The O2 measurements are really important to achieve a good combustion. Every single adjustment
possibility is to be found in this chapter.
4.1.3.1 Max. power oxy% set.
The O2 value which is observed is that O2 which was not used connected to the deflagration.
With a high output the deflagration can use the most of the O2 and the same the other way around. The
ideal setting can vary depending of the boiler type and the fuel which is used.

This parameter is free to adjust. However, we recommend setting the O2 at 8 %.
4.1.3.2 Min. power oxy% set
With minimum output the excess O2 will be higher. It is not possible to reach a complete deflagration
with a small flame.
Please select: Menu / Run / O2 / Min power oxy% set
This parameter is free to adjust, but we recommend setting the O2 to 14 %.

4.2 Start up.
In connection with the startup of the boiler or transition from pause to run, there are more parameters
which can be adapted or adjusted as pleased.
4.2.1 Stoker screw.
In connection with the startup it is important that the volume of fuel is fitting and that is what the next
parameter is for.
4.2.1.1 1. Start fuel.
When the boiler is leaving pause and is about to start up again, we have to add some fuel to lighten up the
fire to make the O2 excess fall. There will be produced a lot of energy before the temperature drops. If the
boiler is supported with automatic ignition, the first Start fuel has to be of an accurate size so the fuel is
max two centimeters below the ignition nozzle.

The value of fuel which is placed is indicated in seconds. And it is free to adjust.
However, if the amount of fuel in the burning head is too high there is danger for a gas explosion
connected to the startup.
4.2.1.1 2. Start fuel.
If it should fail to get the O2 value beneath the value which is indicated in chapter 4.2.2.2 within three
minutes the second Start fuel will be activated.

2. Start fuel is normally set to half value of the 1. Start fuel.
4.2.1.3 Maximum fuel s.
In connection with the startup it is important that the burning head is not overloaded. It might be a
problem with especially lousy or wet fuel.
Please select: Menu / Startup / Stoker screw / Max. fuel s.
The basis setting is 75 % of maximum operating time indicated in chapter 4.1.2.3

4.2.2 O2.
To make sure that the controller knows if the fire is ignited or/if the ignition should be activated, there is
some limit values for the O2 in the smoke gas which has to be set.
4.2.2.1 Go to startup O2 %
If the O2 is over the indicated value, the controller will go in startup mode and activate the automatic
ignition if such is mounted, If not the fan will start pulsing to ignite the fire.
Please select: Menu / Startup / O2 / Go to startup O2 %
Normally we use 16-17 % as basis for this parameter.
4.2.2.2 Go to run mode C.
When the O2 is below the indicated value the controller knows that the fire is ignited and it will switch to
run.

Normally we Please select a value between 2 and 3 % under the value in chapter 4.2.2.1
4.2.3 Smoke temperature.
The smoke temperature is helping to inform the controller if the fire is properly ignited or if the boiler
needs to be cleaned.
4.2.3.1 Go to run mode °C
When the temperature is above the value you know that the fire is ignited and the controller can go into
run mode.
Please select: Menu / Startup / O2 / Go to run mode °C
Normally we set this value to 5° C below boiler set temperature.
4.2.3.2 Stop Boiler temp °C
If the smoke is too cold then we know that the boiler has stopped and there will be no reason to operate
any longer.
Please select: Menu / Startup / O2 / Stop boiler temp. °C
The temperature is set to 20° C below the boiler’s set temperature.

4.2.3.3 Boiler cleaning temperature °C
If the smoke gas is getting to high, then is it time to clean the boiler and the efficiency of the boiler will
also be less when there is too much heating led out of the chimney.
Please select: Menu / Startup / O2 / Boiler clean temp. °C
If the temperature is more than 50° C above the temperature which is observed by 100 % output, then it is
time to clean the boiler.
4.2.4 Startup time in minutes.
In connection with startup of the boiler it is allowed that the boiler uses a given time to bring the O2 down
below the value which is indicated in chapter 4.2.2.2. If it does not succeed within expiration of the
startup time then the boiler goes into “startup timeout”.

Depending on the fuel and the type of the boiler the time is set so the boiler has a chance to bring the O2
down without going into alarm mode.
If the time is set to long, it might have the effect that the boiler is overfilled and the controller discovers
that the fire has gone out.
4.2.5 Startup output %
To make it easier to control the deflagration in startup, the output within upstart can be controlled.

It is normally set to maximum 50 %
4.2.6 Ignition
In connection with using automatic ignition there are similar parameters and values you should be
attended on.
4.2.6.1 Ignition delay s.
Before we wish the ignition to activate, we have to be completely sure that there is no fire. Startup after
pause with startup output to observe if there are any glows blowing in to make fire. However, if the O2
still is above the value from chapter 4.2.2.1 the automatic ignition will activate.

This parameter is normally set to 3 minutes.

4.2.6.2 Fuel delay.
When the ignition is activated then the stoker screw is stopped in x minutes because we do not want to
remove the fuel. We are trying heat.
Please select: Menu / Startup / Ignition / Fuel delay
Normally two minutes is appropriate. If the time is too long there might be a risk that the O2 will not drop
to below the limit before the startup time because there is not enough fuel in the burning head.
4.2.6.3 No ignition.
If the boiler is not mounted with an automatic ignition this section is used.
Please select: Menu / Startup / Ignition / No ignition
4.2.6.4 Manual.
Is the boiler type FX or XXL it is recommended that you only use the ignition when it is activated
manually, otherwise use pause-run.
Please select: Menu / Startup / Ignition / Manual
4.2.6.5 Automatic.
Boilers with a round screw pipe can start and stop as you desire and that is why it is possible to use the
automatic type.
Please select: Menu / Startup / Ignition / Automatic
4.2.6.6 Auto W. empty
The boiler type F-Auto has a huge screw pipe in which there is a high-risk for back-fire if only the boiler
is stopped. To avoid this, the boiler has to be driven empty before it is shut down.

4.3 Pause.
When the boiler has reached the desired temperature above the boiler’s set temperature, as it is indicated
in chapter 4.1.1.2 the boiler switches to pause mode if there is not chosen automatic ignition.
4.3.1 Stoker screw.
In connection with pause mode, we should run the screw of two reasons:
To transport enough fuel to keep the glows alive
To secure that the glows cannot penetrate the screw pipe
4.3.1.1 Pause fuel seconds.
For how long the screw should run every time it is activated is indicated here.
Please select: Menu / Pause / Stoker screw / Pause fuel s.
An appropriate time to run the stoker screw is the same as maximum time for the stoker screw in startup
(chapter 4.2.1.3).
4.3.1.2 Pause in minutes.
How often the screw is supposed to run depends on the fuel and the drag in the chimney.
Please select: Menu / Pause / Stoker screw / Pause in min.
As basis the time is set to 10 minutes.
4.3.1.3 Empty-run in minutes.
When choosing automatic ignition with empty-run we have to decide for how long the boiler has to run to
ensure that there is no loose material inside the screw pipe which could cause a back-fire.
Please select: Menu / Pause / Stoker screw / Empty-run min.
The time has to be checked in first empty-run and adjusted after need.

4.3.2 Fan.
Every time there is transported fuel in pause mode the fan is also started to ensure that the fire does not go
out.
4.3.2.1 Output.
How fast the fan shall blow depends on the fuel. Usually it should not be more than 15 % output.

4.3.2.2 Fan on time.
The time in which the fan blows can also be adjusted. Normally the time is adjusted to 10 seconds.

4.4 Program.
To avoid that you have to adjust all parameters when you switch a different type of fuel, we have made
five programmes which can be adjusted to every single type of fuel and then you just switch between
these programmes.
Program 1: Pellets
Program 2: Woodchip
Program 3: Sawdust
Program 4: Diverse
Program 5: Light fuel
Fuel of same weight pr m 3is generally running with the same program. The reason for that is that it
depends on amount of kilos per rpm. On the screw which is basis for how much energy is provided.
However, there is different roughness of the fuel and means that it is different how much fuel is provided
although it has the same weight per m 3.
Although our new PCT400 O2 system is very flexible in its regulation and there is rarely need to change
program/adjustment even if you are changing type og fuel.

4.5 Accessories.
In this chapter all parameters related to the single accessory has to be adjusted.
4.5.1 Transport screw.
The transport screw is the screw which provides the fuel from the extern stock. The controller is prepared
to run with up to four transport screws.
4.5.1.1 Run as stoker screw.
When using a very dry and ventilated fuel, it might be an advantage that the stoker screw runs all the time
and then dispenses with the transport screw to avoid back-fire.

You just have to select yes/no.
4.5.1.2 After run stoker screw.
When the transport screw is running as a dispenser screw, the stoker screw always has to run with after
run to ensure that there will not come more fuel into the stoker screw than the stoker screw can handle.
The transport screw is feeding more than the stoker screw.

The after run setting is in seconds and it always has to run until it is empty in the sluice before it stops
again.
4.5.1.3 After run before pause.
Before the boiler is turning into pause mode with the previous mentioned fuel, it is really important that
the stoker screw is running empty by transition to pause.
4.5.1.4 Fuel delay.
When using a flexscrew as a transport screw should it not start and stop all the time, because it overloads
the screw unnecessarily.

When indicated with five minutes the transport screw will first start when the fuel sensor below the flame
damper has announced empty for five minutes.
