Safety instructions
General safety instructions
Check the vehicle every time before setting off:
Is there any visible damage? If there is any damage assess it, or have it
assessed by a third party, to see whether the vehicle is still roadworthy.
Do the lights and horn work?
Is the tyre pressure okay (approx. 3 bar)?
Are the reflectors attached to the wheel?
Are the batteries sufficiently charged?
Do the brakes work?
Do not wear any long items of clothing (e.g. shawl or long skirt) that may get trapped in
the wheels when you are driving!
Whilst driving, keep your hands on the handlebars at all times and your feet on the
running board.
To charge the vehicle, follow the instructions on page 4.
Because it is so quiet, be careful not to run into people who are not paying attention and
other road users when you are driving. Adapt your style of driving accordingly.
Safety information for the batteries (rechargeable lithium-ion
batteries)
No special safety precautions are necessary for normal use.
The vehicle's batteries must not be short-circuited or connected with reverse polarity,
stored near a heat source, mechanically broken open or pierced, or immersed in liquids.
They must not been under or overcharged. The charging unit protects against
overcharging, recharging the batteries immediately after every journey helps against
undercharging. Caution: Exhausted batteries must be disposed of correctly!
If as a result of a defect, the batteries still emit gas, the room/area must be well
ventilated immediately. Avoid coming into direct contact with the batteries (if your eyes
or skin come into contact with the battery fluid, flush out for at least 15 minutes with
clean water and call for medical assistance; if you inhale the vapours move away from
the source immediately and breathe in fresh air; if you swallow the battery fluid, drink a
lot of water and induce vomiting, contact your doctor). After the emission of gas due to a
defect, the room/area must be thoroughly cleaned before it is next used.
In the event of a fire: Let the white gas come out without extinguishing it; only
extinguish the batteries if there is black smoke by using a chemical powder or CO2.
Disposal: Return any batteries you have replaced to Kyburz Switzerland AG.

the maximum load that can be carried is 30 kg at the front and 90 kg at the back (see

Before driving
Remove the charging cable
Take the charging cable out of the socket and vehicle and place it rolled up in the
compartment (20) behind the seat. Make sure that the cable is not damaged.
Adjust the seat position
You can adjust the seat (SE) in the longitudinal direction to suit your size. Pull the lever
(SPO) in front of the seat surface upwards and move the seat to the back or to the front.
Make sure that the lever locks back into place in order to fix the seat for when you are
driving.
Adjusting the rear view mirror
Keep the handlebars straight and look in the rear view mirror. Adjust the mirror by
moving the black plastic frame (SLR) so that you have the best view of what is behind
you when driving straight ahead.

Loading
(November 2015)
The driver is responsible for the loading process. The legal requirements of the
respective country must be adhered to. Listed below are some helpful tips on how to
best load the vehicle in order to maintain optimum visibility and stability. Kyburz
Switzerland AG expressly rejects any liability or responsibility for damages caused by
incorrect loading.
General instructions for loading
The goods transported must not project over the side of the vehicle
The entire load must be secured properly, e.g. with tension straps.
The helmet compartment (rear cargo flap) must be completely shut while driving.
The centre of gravity of the load should be as low as possible (heavy at the
bottom, light on top).

Controls to the left
Brake lever (main brake) (1)
To slow down the vehicle, pull the brake lever towards the handle. This activates
the mechanical power brake and the drive is deactivated, even if the throttle grip is still
in the drive position.
Light switch (main beam/low beam) (2)
Switching between the main beam and the low beam.
Indicator (3)
Moving the indicator switch to the right activated the indicator on the right side of the
vehicle.
Pressing on the indicator switch turns the indicator off.
Horn (4)
Pressing the horn button sounds the horn. In this way you can always make others
aware you are there through an acoustic signal.
CAUTION:
Use the mechanical brake regularly (at least once a day), even if in the
"normal mode" you usually use the auxiliary brake on the throttle grip (see
page 6, Throttle grip) If the mechanical brake is not used it may deteriorate,
which will result in the brakes failing.

Throttle grip (auxiliary brake) (5)
Turning the throttle grip slightly towards the driver sets the vehicle slowly in motion. The
further the throttle grip is turned, the faster it goes. Turning the throttle grip back
activates the electrical brake of the vehicle, it goes slower (the motor becomes a
generator and powers the batteries and acts as an auxiliary brake).
Releasing the throttle grip brings the vehicle to a complete stop.
Tip: To drive in an more environmentally friendly way, in the "stop-and-go mode", the
braking effect of the auxiliary brake on the throttle grip is normally enough.
Travel direction switch (6)
The forward direction is selected by locking the direction switch in the upper position
and in the bottom one to reverse. When you reverse, an acoustic alarm signal is
emitted.
Light switch (parking light/low beam) (7)
Switching between the parking light and the driving lights. The parking lights do not
switch off - for your safety
CAUTION:
The auxiliary brake is not sufficient in emergency situations or on
steep slopes when the batteries are fully charged (the batteries
cannot store the energy then) – if in doubt use the main brake ((1), page
5, Brake lever).
If you brake whilst driving under 5 km/h, the DXP slows down to a
complete stop. The throttle has to be put back to the "zero" position to
be able to set off again. This is a safety feature.

Ignition (8)
To switch the vehicle on, turn the key in the ignition to the "DRIVE" position.
The vehicle can only be moved manually without an ignition key or if it is in the "OFF"
position. See page 14, Release the parking brake.
Charge indicator (9)
The charge indicator lights up when the vehicle's ignition is switched on (see images
below). The number of bars shows the current charge level of the batteries. 10 bars
means the batteries are fully charged. 2-3 bars (red/yellow range) means the batteries
are empty. In order not to damage the batteries, the charge level must remain in the
white range of the display and never reach the red range. Follow the instructions for
charging and discharging batteries on page 11 ff.

When the vehicle is switched on, the control display shows whether the display is
complete (12). The total mileage (13) is shown for a brief time on the display, then the
driving speed (14) is shown digitally in km/h.
Error display (11)
If the LED on the right of the display lights up red, then an error code is shown (see
page 13, Fault diagnostics) If the spanner (15) lights up on the display, this means the
next maintenance service is due (see page 16, Maintenance).

Storage space in the vehicle (November 2015)
Compartment at the rear under the loading area
There is a compartment (20) under the rear loading area, where the charging cable (21)
and the charging socket (22) are stored4along with the service book and the operating
instructions (23). The compartment can be locked and can be used for storing
registered post, a small helmet or other handy tools.
Compartment under the seat
There is a compartment under the seat, which can be used, for example, for storing
gloves. This compartment does not have a lock. It is opened by gripping the backrest of
the seat and lifting it forwards.

Driving
Sit on the seat, turn the ignition key in the ignition switch (8) to "DRIVE" and now the
DXP is ready to drive.
Turn the throttle grip (5) slightly towards you and the vehicle will start moving. The
further you turn the throttle grip, the faster you will go.
The DXP has a mechanical main brake on the left handle and an electrical auxiliary
brake on the throttle grip. If you need to brake quickly or in an emergency situation, use
the brake on the left handlebar (1). To brake "normally" turn the throttle grip on the right
handlebar back and brake until you come to a complete stop (5). For details see pages
5 to 7, Controls.
You must observe the following instructions:
The DXP is essentially suitable for use in all weather conditions.
Abrupt changes in direction and sudden braking should be avoided, especially
under icy conditions or in the snow.
Do not drive through water that is more than 12 cm deep.
Permanently mounted handlebar gloves must be installed professionally. Make
sure that the handlebar gloves do not interfere with the operating of the vehicle.
The DXP is fitted with a seat switch, which prevents the vehicle moving off
without a driver. The vehicle can only be operated after the switch has been
pressed.

Cleaning
To clean the vehicle only use water and a mild soap with a soft cloth and a standard
hose.
Storage of the vehicle
Optimum storage and charging conditions for the DXP
cool, dry and ventilated area that people do not usually use for long periods of
time (not an office, etc.)
minimal fluctuations in temperature (temperature during charging between -10°C
and +40°C), not near heating
a cover to protect the vehicle from heavy rainfall and direct sunlight.
Storing the vehicle (long-term)
If the vehicle is not going to be used for a long time (more than six months), please
observe the following instructions:
The batteries should ideally be discharged to 50% before the vehicle is stored
away and the main connections to the vehicle must be disconnected. This will
avoid small discharge currents. Contact your partner garage for this. After six
months the batteries should be fully charged again and discharged to 50%, to
maintain their high performance level.
CAUTION: Never clean or spray it with a high-pressure
cleaner!

Charging and discharging the batteries
Charging
The charging cable is usually in the compartment (20) under the rear loading area. The
charging socket (22) is also in the same compartment.
Check the charging cable for damages before using it. You must replace a
faulty cable immediately - risk of an electric shock!
First plug the charging cable into the charging socket (22), then into a mains power
socket (230 VAC). The batteries are now charging. The charging indicator (8) shows the
current level of charge. It is best to always leave the vehicle plugged in when you are
not using it. No additional power is used and the batteries are not overcharged because
the charging unit stops the charging process as soon as the batteries are full.
Remove the charging cable before setting off. If the cable is pugged in, the DXP is not
ready for use. Caution: This vehicle immobiliser is only active when the socket is
supplied with power.
Observe the following instructions for the correct use of the
batteries
The batteries of the DXP must be recharged immediately after every drive, even
if it has not been used over the weekend or for several weeks. This extends the
lifespan of the batteries and ensures that the DXP is always ready for use.
Always completely charge the batteries and do not interrupt the charging process
prematurely (timers are not recommended. Existing ones must be programmed
accordingly).
The charge level of the batteries should remain within the white range of the
display (8). The batteries may only fall into the yellow range by way of exception
(i.e. maximum once a week) and never into the red range. Failure to observe
these instructions will result in a reduced battery life.
As from 2016, the vehicles will gradually be fitted with a warning device to protect
the batteries. The symbols in the display show when the batteries must be
charged as a matter of urgency (for details please refer to the next page).

Avoid discharging the batteries beyond the white range (see page 11 below).
New in 2016, protecting the batteries:
As soon as the batteries are discharged too far into the yellow range, i.e. the critical
range, a battery symbol (31) will flash on the display. The batteries must then be
charged. If you continue to drive instead, and the display is in the red range, then the
symbol for the battery will stay on continuously and the power and speed of the vehicle
will keep getting lower and lower in order to conserve the power of the batteries. If you
still continue driving, the message "batt low" will appear on the display and the vehicle
will only travel at 6 km/h (33). Once the batteries are completely flat, the error message
53 will appear for a few seconds and then the vehicle will switch itself off (34).

Charging instructions
Only interrupt the charging process when the batteries are completely charged. The
length of time it takes to charge the battery depends on the battery and the charging
unit of the vehicle. Table 1 gives an overview of the approximate times for a full charge
at room temperature. Switched sockets have to be programmed for the worst case
according to the mix of the fleet, i.e. if in doubt the charging time is 12 hours without
interruption.

Troubleshooting
If there is a defect
The following problems could be caused by an operating error, which you can correct
yourself:

If another defect appears on the DXP report it to your authorised KYBURZ service
partner and quote the error code if possible (see below).
Error message in the display
If the red LED next to the display (11) flashes, an error code between 12 and 99 is
issued (Display: FLT for "fault", then the number of the error code). Contact your
KYBURZ service partner and give them the error code. There is a list of all error codes
in the Appendix (pages 18-20).
When the following error codes appear, you can resolve the issue yourself:

* Note for Error 28: The DXP reduces its performance from a motor temperature of 120
degrees. When the motor reaches 130 degrees, the DXP switches off. Then the motor
must be left to cool down for 10 minutes.
On hot days when the hills are particularly steep or the load is
particularly heavy, you can check the display of the motor
temperature and adjust your style of driving accordingly:
1. Press the left button for approx. 5 seconds
2. The display changes and shows the battery voltage U

Release the parking brake
The DXP is secured against rolling away when it is parked with the automatic parking
brake on. You can release the parking brake and push the DXP by hand:
1. Important: Switch the vehicle off with the ignition key!
2. Move the lever (21) in the compartment (20) under the rear loading area to Position
1.
3. The parking brake is released. The vehicle can now be pushed by hand.
4. Move the lever back to Position 2.
If the lever is in Position 2, the parking brake is activated and the DXP is ready to drive.
Always push the lever up to the end position!
Position 1: The parking brake has been released,

CAUTION:
The DXP can roll away if the parking brake is off!
Never sit on the vehicle when the parking brake is off! (With the
exception of when towing, see page 14)

Towing
Procedure:
1. Fasten the tow rope securely on the towing vehicle.
2. The vehicle to be towed must be switched off.
3. Wrap the tow rope around the handlebar of the towed vehicle and hold the other
end with your hand on the throttle grip.
Important: The driver of the vehicle being towed must be able to let go of the
rope at any time.
4. Release the parking brake in the luggage compartment of the vehicle to be towed
(see page 14, Release the parking brake).
5. Now tow at a maximum speed of 15 km/h. Be sure to keep the tow rope tense
whilst towing. A driver with an appropriate driving licence must be on each of the
vehicles.
CAUTION:
- The tow rope must be clearly visible around the middle point. Chains and
metallic ropes are not permitted.
- It must be possible to slow down the vehicle being towed (check the
mechanical brake before towing, see page 5).
- Transfer the payload from the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle. Vehicles
must only be towed without a trailer.
- Towing is only permitted by a suitable vehicle in the event of a breakdown
(no overtaking of vehicles, etc. with a tow rope).
- Observe the statutory provisions relating to the towing of vehicles in your
country of residence.
Changing the wheels
CAUTION: When mounting the wheel: Tighten the wheel nut with a torque
wrench with exactly 85 Nm.
Afterwards, mount the side reflector. The DXP can only be driven on the
roads when the wheels and reflectors are mounted correctly.

Maintenance
So that the DXP and trailer are always ready for use and safe to use, the following
inspection intervals must be adhered to:
Weekly checks
You need to check the following points once a week (there is a video that
demonstrates these points on our website, visit www.kyburz-switzerland.ch):
Visual inspection for damages (e.g. slanted wheels)
Error message on the display (you should contact your partner garage
immediately and report the error code displayed)
Lights and indicators
Brakes on the vehicle including the seat switch (the vehicle only travels with a
driver on the seat).
Visual inspection of all the tyres for wear
Side reflectors ("cat's eyes") must be on.
Suspension
Listen for any unusual noises
Expiry of the maintenance service (when it has expired (see below) please notify
your partner garage)
Air pressure of the tyres (3.0 - 3.5 bar)
Maintenance service
A maintenance service has to be carried out on the DXP
every 5,000 km. Contact your authorised KYBURZ service
partner when the red triangle light appears on the DXP
and the tool symbol is displayed (appears after 5,000 km).
