1. Introduction
The D-Note Series of digital note recorder has built-in memory that
allows you to instantly capture notes or diagrams written in ink on
normal paper without connecting into your computer, and then transfer
a digital data into a computer for viewing, editing, or sharing by email
on Windows platform. When the D-Note connects into a computer, it is
able to use like a tablet.
1.1 Possible applications
D-Note can be deployed in any situations where both a paper
hardcopy and a digitized soft copy are required, such as minutes
taking, lecture notes taking or business presentation. The artist and
writer are able to do their jobs any time when good idea coming out.

2. Knowledge about D-Note
DNA401:
Hand writing area
One can write and record notes or drawings in the writing area of the
DNA401 digital recorder. The maximum area is 8.3" x 10.3" (210 x
263mm).
Thickness of the paper pad
The DLA401 supports standard A4 paper pads with a maximum
thickness of 0.2”~0.3” (5~7mm).

DNA500
Handwriting area
One can write and record notes or drawings in the writing area of
DNA500 digital recorder. The maximum area is 5.9" x 8.3" (150 x
210mm).
Thickness of the paper pad
The DNA500 supports standard A5 paper pads with a maximum
thickness of 0.6” (15mm).

2.1 Installation of the batteries
DNA500 DLA401
Turn off the power before changing the batteries or the memory
data could come out with errors.
WARNING! When the battery installed in a wrong way, will
leak out the liquid from the battery.
Do not mix together with different brands or used batteries.
Please take out the batteries if not using for more than 30 days.
Four AAA alkaline batteries can be used approximate 100 hours
continuously. Battery life varies based on different brand.

2.2 Installation of the ink pen battery
Open the bottom of digital pen’s lid and take out the mercury battery
from packing bag, then install a new one with the negative (-) pole
facing the pen tip. Screw both barrel parts up until tight.
Incorrect battery installation will result in the malfunction of the
digital ink pen.
Important:Remove cover label before inserting the pen battery.
In case to lose the digital pen, please put them into the D-Note’s
trough.

2.3 Setup the Notepad and recorder
Attach the paper notepad on D-Note pad standard and the maximum
size is:
DLA401 210mm x 263mm (A4/Letter)
DNA500 150mm x 210mm (A5)
Please do not exceed the size of Digital recorder and exert
great efforts to tear the papers.

2.4 Store Device
The built-in 32MB FLASH memory is able to save the handwritten
notepads as digital one (*.DNT).
Please do not save the files from computer into digital D-Note’s
memory, or the data in D-Note will be damaged or lost.

3. D-Note Operation Guide
3.1 Front panel button
The LCD display
For recognizing the text on the LCD screen easily, the two
decimal digits of the page counter are enlarged in the center of
the screen, whereas the hundreds (0-1) are displayed behind the
hyphen in the top row of the display.
Although the D-Note theoretically has the ability to manage up to
99 workbooks of 199 digital pages each, such ability is limited to
the maximum storage capacity of the built-in flash memory in
practically. Therefore the DNA500 has a storage capacity of
32MB, which is about 150 digital pages, and DLA401 is about 75
pages.

3.2 Power Button
1. Enable the Digital note recorder
In order to start the Digital note recorder, press the button of
POWER about 3 seconds, the LCD shows on (as right
picture).
2. MENU Functions
Press the button of , and select the menu functions.(Please
refer the section 3.6 -- Menu functions)
3. Disable the Digital note Recorder
In order to shut down the Digital note recorder, press the
button of POWER about 3 seconds, the LCD shows off (as
right picture).
3.3 Build up and store a new page
It is strongly recommended to number down the sheets on your
notepad and copy the workbook and page number on the LCD display
each time when you turn over a sheet. This will help to synchronize
the paper sheets with the workbooks and digital pages in the D-Note’s
memory.
STEP-1 Press to create a new page.
To avoid the creation of superimposed digital pages, make
sure that the page status indicator on the LCD screen
displays an empty page before you start writing on a new
page.
Before creating new page or selecting the old one, waiting for
or comes out for recording data.
The size of the files is depending on how much the
handwritten data you have.

3.4 Modify notes
Whenever, you can turn the page you wish to go that you have
written and saved before.
Press the Page Up button or Page Down button to browse pages
and make corrections or additional notes on empty space.
You may browse several sheets at a time to check earlier notes.
However, if you want to make additions on a particular sheet, you
must turn the page by repeatedly pressing the Page Up or Down
buttons until the page counter indicates the same number as the one
you have marked on the sheet itself.
3.5 Delete pages
Method -- Pressing the Delete button that equals tearing off or
crossing out a paper sheet of the notepad.
Press / YES Confirm
Press Ñ NO Cancel
Method -- Use the software function to delete pages on Windows:
After connecting your D-Note into a computer, then open the pages
folder by using Digital Organizer (Install method, see the CH 4.1).
Checking the D-Note data and selecting the pages you wish to delete.
In addition, you can remember and delete pages faster by put a mark
“-“in the head of file name.

3.6 MENU functions
STEP-1 Turn on the power by pressing and get in the functions of
menu.
Main menu shows up and wait for the information function
Accessing the menu functions, such as rotate, book, suspend or
information.
Rotate This menu allows you to adjust the paper
orientation from portrait to landscape or
upside down.
Book Workbook: Start a new workbook. (A new
meeting, or lecture)
Format disk: Use this option to format the
flash memory and erase all of its content.
Version: Display the current firmware
version.
Tablet Function Selection: User can
switch on or off
Tablet function by this option.
Suspend Set up the timing for automatically power
off
Information Memory size / Power

3.6.1 Change the paper orientation
D-Note is designed for different level and way of using, there are
four directions are able to select by user.
The function only supports a new page, not a written one.
STEP-1 Press Uand select for different direction.
STEP-2 Press to confirm and start the rotating
function.
STEP-3 Press△to select the direction. LCD changes the angles as
following:
STEP-4 Press to return to the main menu.

3.6.2 Book Settings
3.6.2.1 Set the number of notepad
The function is designed for user who own several notepads and
would like to have original notebook with multi-numbers to record and
trace up all digital notes.
(
When changing the notepad, please transfer
the data into your computer to avoid data lost.
)
STEP-1 Select the workbook sub-menu.
STEP-2 Pressto confirm the action, then start the setting of
notepad.
STEP-3 Select and pressto confirm the action,then start
to set the workbook number.
STEP-4 Press △(decrease number) or ▽(increase number),
to select the workbook number you want.
STEP-5 Press to confirm and return to the main menu.

3.6.2.2 FORMAT Flash Memory
The function will delete all the data in the memory. If not sure the
data
are available or not, please back it up and save it into your computer,
or you can select single page deleted.
The Format order built in the D-Note and it works more efficient to
manage your files.
STEP-1 Press△to select the workbook sub-menu.
STEP-2 Press to confirm.
STEP-3 Press▽to select the Format Disk command and
pressto confirm the action.
STEP-4 Press to confirm the operation. After finish this
function, D-Note would auto-turn off.
Press to cancel and return to main menu.

3.6.2.3 VERSION Information
STEP-1 Press▽ to select the workbook sub-menu.
STEP-2 Press [ENTER] to confirm.
STEP-3 Press ▽to select the Version Information
command and press to confirm.
STEP-4 User can see the version information on LCD
monitor. After 5 seconds, it will return to note taking mode.

3.6.2.4 Tablet Function
STEP-1 Press ▽ to select the workbook sub-menu.
STEP-2 Press [ENTER] to confirm.
STEP-3 Press ▽ to select the Tablet command, and then
press to confirm.
STEP-4 When the D-Note connect into a PC, Press to
open the tablet function (default) or select to close it, and
then press to confirm the operation

3.6.3 Auto Suspend-Timer ( 3 minutes--- 60 minutes)
STEP-1 Press ▽ to select the suspending sub-menu.
STEP-2 Press [ENTER] to confirm. The default idle
time is 15 minutes.
STEP-3 Press △ or ▽ to increase or decrease the idle time (from 3
~ 60 minutes) after which the D-Note will automatically switch off.
STEP-4 Press to confirm and return to the main menu.

3.6.4 Space/Power Display
STEP-1 Press ▽ to select the status menu.
STEP-2 Press [ENTER] to confirm.
Remaining disk space in %.
Remaining battery capacity in %.

3.7 Testing for Digital Ink Pen
Firstly, pick up the digital pen (make sure the mercury battery
install properly) and try to write anything on the D-Note’s
working area (LCD will display ),that means the pen is
working fine. (if detect the pen around the working area but
no writing action, then LCD will display ).
If the LCD displays the icon or , the digital pen is working
fine.
If no icon displays, that means the pen has no action. (Even
though you still write by using a normal pen, no record or action will
be saved as computer files.)
Be careful if no icon appeared when you are in writing action.
If not, please check the battery run out or not install properly.
