Product Description
The IVO FR is an integrated solution of MP3 player, USB memory storage, FM radio and digital audio
recorder. It supports playback of MP3, WMA, ASF and WAV format audio files. Different EQ settings,
radio and recorder functions can all be easily accessed through a menu tree. Custom settings like
display contrast, auto-power off time can also be configured.
The IVO FR is designed as an easy to use USB memory device when connected to PC. Direct
connection to computer with no cable required. No driver installation is necessary for Windows ME,
2000, XP, MacOS 9.0 or later version. For Windows 98, one-time installation driver will be provided.
True plug and play, when connecting the IVO FR to a computer, a removable hard disk will be detected
and the user can save any types of programs or data onto the IVO FR. You can save your mp3 songs
to different folders for easy sorting. You can then browse the folder tree in the player to select a
folder to play.
The IVO FR can also be used as a digital voice recorder. You can record voice in a meeting or in a
lesson and the voice data is saved in the internal memory. The voice recording can be saved in the
WAV or ACT format, and it can also be transferred between the IVO FR and your computer for backup.

Operating Modes
The MP3 player mainly consists of 5 modes:
1. MP3 mode
2. Voice recording mode
3. Voice playback mode
4. FM radio mode
5. System settings mode
When the unit is powered ON, it will go directly to MP3 mode. The LCD display is shown as below:

(a) ID3 tag Displays song name, artist, song information
(b) Operating mode Song, Voice recording, Voice playback
(c) File format MP3, WMA
(d) Repeat mode Repeat 1, repeat All, repeat selected folder, normal
(e) Song number Displays song number, total no. of songs
(f) Equalizer Equalizer selected
(g) Song time Displays song play time and song length
(h) Battery level 9 battery levels
A new battery will show a full battery icon.
when the battery almost drained，the icon becomes empty, and the user
should replace the battery.
Main Menu and Sub-menu
Please note that the Mode key is an important control on this mp3 player. It is used to switch
between the 5 different modes and enter the sub-menu of each mode.
Main Menu
Holding the Mode key will take you to the Main menu, and you can use Next/Previous keys to select
the 5 different modes. Then press the Mode key once to go to the selected mode.
Sub-menu
Each mode has its sub-menu for setting special functions or options. To enter the sub-menu, press
the Mode key briefly.

MP3 Mode
Enter MP3 Mode
When the unit is powered ON, it will go directly to MP3 mode. You can also enter the MP3 mode from
another mode by holding the Mode key. Then select the MP3 function icon and press the Mode key to
go to MP3 mode.
Play/Power Key
Press and hold the Play key for 2 seconds. This will turn the unit on/off.
In MP3 mode while the song is stopped, pressing the Play key once will start playback.
While the song is playing, pressing the Play key once will pause the song.
In menu selection mode, the Play key is used to exit the menu.
Mode Key
Pressing the Mode key to switch between functions:
(A) Main Menu: Enter by holding the Mode key while the music is stopped
(B) Sub-menu A: Enter by pressing the Mode key briefly while the music is playing
(C) Sub-menu B: Enter by pressing the Mode key briefly while the music is stopped
Previous / Next Keys
In MP3 or voice playback mode, pressing the Next/Previous keys once will move to the next or
previous songs. If a song is playing, holding Next/Previous keys will fast forward/backward within
the song.
Vol+ and Vol- Keys
In MP3 or voice playback mode, pressing Vol+ / Vol- once will increase/decrease the volume one step.
Holding Vol+/Vol- will increase/decrease continuously.
REC Key
Pressing the REC key once will enter voice recording mode and start voice recording. While voice is
recording, pressing the REC key will pause recording; press the REC key again to resume. During
voice recording, hold the REC key for 2 seconds to stop the recording.
Remark:
1. In sub-menu A, there are 6 options for user settings:
Repeat mode Normal: Play all the songs once

Repeat one: Repeat play one song
Folder: Play the selected folder once
Repeat folder: Repeat the selected folder
Repeat All: Repeat all songs
Random: Randomly select song to play
Equalizer 7 equalizers: Natural, Rock, Pop, Classical, Soft, Jazz, DBB
Tempo rate Changing the song’s tempo rate makes the song plays faster or
slower
Replay A-B Set replay tag A and B
Use the Next key to set tag A and tag B.
Replay times Set number of replay times from tag A to tag B
Replay gap Set replay time gap between every replay
Note: The Tempo rate and Replay functions are intended for study purposes, allowing the user to
record a useful lesson, store it in the mp3 player and listen to it again later. It is not recommended
to set this function for normal mp3 playback.
2. In sub-menu B, you can select the working folder, delete files and delete all files.

Voice Recording Mode
Enter Voice Recording Mode
Go to the Main Menu by holding the Mode key, select the voice record icon and press the Mode key.
Play Key
In voice recording mode, pressing the Play key once will start voice recording. While voice is
recording, pressing the Play key will pause recording. Press the Play key again to resume. During
voice recording, holding the Play key for 2 seconds will save and stop the recording.
Note:
If voice recording is paused, the time display will be blinking.
REC Key
In voice recording mode, the REC key and the Play key have the same function except while voice
recording is stopped; holding the REC key will start recording but holding the Play key will power the
unit off.
Mode Key
When voice recording is stopped, holding the Mode key will return to the Main Menu.
Pressing the Mode key is once will enter the record sub-menu.
Voice Recording Sub-menu
Like MP3s, voice data can be saved to the sub-folder that selected in the folder tree.
In the sub-menu, you can select 4 types of recording:
Fine REC，WAV format, good voice quality
Long REC，ACT format，fair quality and longer recording time
Fine VOR，WAV format, good voice quality, will pause recording automatically when
there is no sound detected
Long VOR，ACT format, fair quality, will pause recording automatically when there is no
sound detected
Voice Playback Mode

Go to the Main Menu by holding the Mode key, select the Voice Playback icon and press the Mode key.
Operation in voice playback mode is similar to MP3 mode.
Note:
1. A maximum of 99 files can be recorded in one folder.
2. When the MP3 memory used up, the screen will show “Over record”. Delete some files to
continue.
3. The screen will also show “Over record” if the folder contains over 99 files; please open a
new folder to store further recordings.
4. During recording, only the “Play” & “REC” keys will function。

FM Radio Mode
Note:
Please note that this function is available only for the MP3 players with built in FM radio module.
Enter FM Mode
Go to the Main Menu by holding the Mode key, select the FM icon and press the Mode key.
Play Key
Holding the Play key, will power the unit off.
If you have saved preset channels, you can press the Play key briefly to switch to the next preset
station.
Mode Key
Holding the Mode key will enter the Main Menu.
Press the Mode key briefly will enter the FM sub-menu. Then you can use Next/Previous keys to
select the function in the sub-menu and press the Mode key again to confirm the function in the
sub-menu.
FM Sub-menu
The FM sub-menu contains 7 functions:
1. Save currently tuned frequency to a channel
2. Delete current preset channel
3. Delete all preset channels
4. Select Normal Band: Frequencies from 87MHz to 108MHz
5. Select Japan Band: Frequencies from 76MHz to 90MHz
6. Fine REC: Record current channel with fine recording quality
7. Long REC: Record current channel with fair recording quality but longer recording time
In the FM sub-menu, press the Play key to exit the sub-menu.
Next Key
Pressing the Next key briefly will tune upward 0.1MHz. You can use it to fine tune the frequency.
Holding the Next key will start auto searching upward. When a radio station is located, it will stop
automatically. Or you can press the Next key to stop the auto searching.
Previous Key
Pressing the Previous key briefly will tune downward 0.1MHz. You can use it to fine tune the
frequency.
Holding the Previous key will start auto searching upward. When a radio station is located, it will stop
automatically. Or you can press the Previous key to stop the auto searching.
Vol+ and Vol- Keys
Pressing Vol+ / Vol- once will increase/decrease the volume one step. Holding Vol+/Vol- will
increase/decrease continuously.

Recording FM Programming
When you select FM recording, the LCD will display the Recording screen. The recording time will be
counted up. You can save and stop the recording by pressing the Mode key again and the LCD will
return to the FM screen.
You can also save and stop the FM recording by holding the Play/REC key, but the screen will keep the
recording screen for around 20 seconds; or you can press the Mode key once to return to FM screen.
Note:
1. If the located station is in stereo, the display will show the icon .
2. Normal band and Japan band can each store 20 preset channels.

System Settings Mode
Enter System Settings mode
Go to the Main Menu by holding the Mode key, select the SYS icon and press the Mode key.
There are 7 functions for user settings. Use the Next and Previous keys to select the function icons
and press the Mode key to access the function.
Record Time
1. Used to set the recording file date and time.
2. Press the Vol+ or Vol- keys to start and select the year, month, day, hour, minute, and
second. Use the Previous and Next keys to adjust the digits.
3. Press the Mode key to confirm the setting and return to the previous menu.
Backlight
Use the Previous and Next keys to increase or decrease the backlight duration. The time unit is
seconds. If 0 is selected, the backlight is set to off.
Language
There are 11 languages for user selection. The user interface ( UI ) will be changed immediately
after the language is selected and the song ID3 tag will be also translated accordingly. Please select
the correct language or the song name may display some unreadable characters ( e.g. you select
German language but a Japanese song is played ).

Power Off
There are 2 self-power off modes:
Off time: To set the self-power off time when mp3 playback is stopped and no key is pressed. If “0”
is selected, this function will be disabled. The time unit is seconds.
Sleep time: To set the self-power off time after last key pressed, regardless of whether mp3 playback
is active or stopped. If “0” is selected, this function will be disabled. The time unit is minutes.

It is not recommend to set both the Off time and Sleep time to “0” because the user may forget to
switch off the mp3 and therefore use up all the battery power.
It is recommended to set the Off time to, for example, 30 seconds so that unit can be self-power off
when not in use.
Replay Mode
Set manual replay or auto replay. ( Auto replay is a function reserved for non-music files, and is a
future add-on function )
Contrast Mode
Use the Previous and Next keys to increase or decrease the LCD contrast.
On-line Mode
To select multi drive, normal and encrypted drive
Memory Information
To display the built in memory size and used memory percentage.
Firmware Version
To display the firmware version and date.
Firmware Upgrade
The mp3 player firmware can be upgraded via the USB port. An improper upgrade may cause a
system error. It is recommended that the upgrade be performed by an authorized technician.

Key Lock and Write Protection
There is a slide switch to lock and unlock the key operation. When it is locked, all key presses will
cause the following screen to be displayed.
When the mp3 player is connected to computer for the USB disk function, the lock switch can be used
as a write protect function.
All data in the USB disk can be read but cannot be written or deleted.

USB Disk Function
The USB device can be used as a removable hard disk simply by connecting it to your PC USB port.
No driver installation is required ( except for Windows 98 ).
All Windows functions, such as cut and paste, can be used to transfer MP3 songs, data files, or
programs between the USB disk and your PC.
When connected to a computer, the LCD will indicate 3 different modes:
Suspend mode
Data download
Data upload

USB Disk Installation Guide
For Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP or XP Pro
No driver is required. These Windows systems have built-in drivers to support the USB
device. Simply connect the USB drive through the USB port in your desktop PC or notebook
computer. You will find a [Removable Disk] icon in the My Computer window.

Note :
For Windows 98/98SE, an installation driver is provided. Run [setup] to install the driver and follow
the on-screen instructions. Re-start the machine to complete the installation.
Simple and Easy Downloading and Uploading
Downloading MP3 files or all other files to the USB drive is simple and easy. Just open the
Windows Explorer, then drag the files to the removable hard disk. You can also delete, copy or
move files in or out between your USB drive and the computer inside the Windows Explorer.
You can also create different folders to store your mp3 files.
Steps for Unplugging the USB device
Please follow the steps below before unplugging the USB cable. ( The example below is for
Windows 2000, similar procedures apply to other Windows versions. )
1. After plugging the device into the PC, a special icon will appear on the right side of the
task bar.

2. Double-click that icon, the [Unplug or Eject Hardware] Windows will show all the
removable hardware in your system. Then select USB Mass Storage Device and press the
Stop button.
3. Click OK. You can now safely remove the device from the system

4. If you unplug the USB drive without first performing the steps above, the following
warning will appear. An error may be generated in the device and the PC.

For Mac OS 9.x, 10.1.2 or Above
No driver is required. Using the device with these operating systems is very easy and simple. Just
connect the USB drive to the USB port and the computer will automatically detect it as an [untitled]
hard disk.

Procedures for Downloading and Uploading MP3 files
Downloading MP3 files or all other files to the USB drive is simple and easy. Just drag the files to the
removable hard disk on the desktop. You can also delete, copy or move files in or out between USB
drive and the computer.
Unplugging the Device from the Computer
1. Empty the Trash Bin if you have deleted files on the USB drive with the Mac computer, otherwise
go directly to step 2.
2. Select the untitled disk, choose [Eject] to properly eject the USB drive.
