Customer safety is important. Our products are developed to be safe and effective. Ho ever, personal
computers are electronic devices. Po er cords, po er adapters, and other features can create potential
safety risks that can result in physical injury or property damage, especially if misused. To reduce these risks,
follo the instructions included ith your product, observe all arnings on the product and in the operating
instructions, and revie the information included in this document carefully. By carefully follo ing the
information contained in this document and provided ith your product, you can help protect yourself from
hazards and create a safer computer ork environment.
Note: This information includes references to po er adapters and batteries. In addition to notebook
computers, some products (such as speakers and monitors) ship ith external po er adapters. If you have
such a product, this information applies to your product. In addition, computer products contain a coin-sized
internal battery that provides po er to the system clock even hen the computer is unplugged, so the
battery safety information applies to all computer products.
Important information about u ing your computer
Ensure that you follo the important tips given here to get the most use and enjoyment out of your computer.
Failure to do so might lead to discomfort or injury, or cause the computer to fail.
Protect your elf from the heat that your computer generate .
When your computer is turned on or the battery is charging, the base, the palm
rest, and some other parts may become hot. The temperature they reach
depends on the amount of system activity and the level of charge in the
battery.
Extended contact ith your body, even through clothing, could cause
discomfort or even a skin burn.
• Avoid keeping your hands, your lap, or any other part of your body in
contact ith a hot section of the computer for any extended time.
• Periodically take hands from using the keyboard by lifting your hands from
the palm rest.

Protect your elf from the heat generated by the ac power adapter.
When the ac po er adapter is connected to an electrical outlet and your
computer, it generates heat.
Extended contact ith your body, even through clothing, may cause a skin
burn.
• Do not place the ac po er adapter in contact ith any part of your body
hile it is in use.
• Never use it to arm your body.
Prevent your computer from getting wet.
To avoid spills and the danger of electrical shock, keep liquids a ay from your
computer.
Protect the cable from being damaged.
Applying strong force to cables may damage or break them.
Route communication lines, or the cables of an ac po er adapter, a mouse, a
keyboard, a printer, or any other electronic device, so that they cannot be
alked on, tripped over, pinched by your computer or other objects, or in any
ay subject to treatment that could interfere ith the operation of your
computer.
Protect your computer and data when moving it.
Before moving a computer equipped ith a hard disk drive, do one of the
follo ing:
• Turn it off.
• Put it in sleep mode.
• Put it in hibernation mode.
This helps to prevent damage to the computer, and possible loss of data.

Handle your computer gently.
Do not drop, bump, scratch, t ist, hit, vibrate, push, or place heavy objects on
your computer, display, or external devices.
Carry your computer carefully.
• Use a quality carrying case that provides adequate cushioning and protection.
• Do not pack your computer in a tightly packed suitcase or bag.
• Before putting your computer in a carrying case, make sure that it is off, in sleep
mode, or in hibernation mode. Do not put a computer in a carrying case hile it is
turned on.
Condition that require immediate action
Product can become damaged due to mi u e or neglect. Some product damage i eriou enough
that the product hould not be u ed again until it ha been in pected and, if nece ary, repaired by an
authorized ervicer.
A with any electronic device, pay clo e attention to the product when it i turned on. On very rare
occa ion , you might notice an odor or ee a puff of moke or park vent from your product. Or you
might hear ound like popping, cracking, or hi ing. The e condition might merely mean that an
internal electronic component ha failed in a afe and controlled manner. Or, they might indicate a
potential afety i ue. However, do not take ri k or attempt to diagno e the ituation your elf.

Frequently in pect your computer and it component for damage or wear or ign of danger. If you
have any que tion about the condition of a component, do not u e the product. Contact the Cu tomer
Support Center or the product manufacturer for in truction on how to in pect the product and have it
repaired, if nece ary.
In the unlikely event that you notice any of the following condition , or if you have any afety concern
with your product, top u ing the product and unplug it from the power ource and
telecommunication line until you can peak to the Cu tomer Support Center for further guidance.

• Po er cords, plugs, po er adapters, extension cords, surge protectors, or po er supplies that are
cracked, broken, or damaged.
• Signs of overheating, smoke, sparks, or fire.
• Damage to a battery (such as cracks, dents, or creases), discharge from a battery, or a buildup of foreign
substances on the battery.
• A cracking, hissing, or popping sound, or strong odor that comes from the product.
• Signs that liquid has been spilled or an object has fallen onto the computer product, the po er cord, or
po er adapter.
• The computer product, po er cord, or po er adapter has been exposed to ater.
• The product has been dropped or damaged in any ay.
• The product does not operate normally hen you follo the operating instructions.
Note: If you notice these conditions ith a product (such as an extension cord) that is not manufactured for
or by Lenovo®, stop using that product until you can contact the product manufacturer for further
instructions, or until you get a suitable replacement.
Service and upgrade
Do not attempt to service a product yourself unless instructed to do so by the Customer Support Center or
your documentation. Only use a Service Provider ho is approved to repair your particular product.
Note: Some computer parts can be upgraded or replaced by the customer. Upgrades typically are referred
to as options. Replacement parts approved for customer installation are referred to as Customer
Replaceable Units, or CRUs. Lenovo provides documentation ith instructions hen it is appropriate for
customers to install options or replace CRUs. You must closely follo all instructions hen installing or
replacing parts. The Off state of a po er indicator does not necessarily mean that voltage levels inside a
product are zero. Before you remove the covers from a product equipped ith a po er cord, al ays make
sure that the po er is turned off and that the product is unplugged from any po er source. If you have any
questions or concerns, contact the Customer Support Center.
Although there are no moving parts in your computer after the po er cord has been disconnected, the
follo ing arnings are required for your safety.

Power cord and power adapter
DANGER
U e only the power cord and power adapter upplied by the product manufacturer.
The power cord hall be afety approved. For Germany, it hall be H03VV-F, 3G, 0.75 mm2, or
better. For other countrie , the uitable type hall be u ed accordingly.
Never wrap a power cord around a power adapter or other object. Doing o can tre the cord in
way that can cau e the cord to fray, crack, or crimp. Thi can pre ent a afety hazard.
Alway route power cord o that they will not be walked on, tripped over, or pinched by object .
Protect power cord and power adapter from liquid . For in tance, do not leave your power cord
or power adapter near ink , tub , toilet , or on floor that are cleaned with liquid clean er . Liquid
can cau e a hort circuit, particularly if the power cord or power adapter ha been tre ed by
mi u e. Liquid al o can cau e gradual corro ion of power cord terminal and/or the connector
terminal on a power adapter, which can eventually re ult in overheating.
En ure that all power cord connector are ecurely and completely plugged into receptacle .
Do not u e any power adapter that how corro ion at the ac input pin or how ign of
overheating ( uch a deformed pla tic) at the ac input pin or anywhere on the power adapter.
Do not u e any power cord where the electrical contact on either end how ign of corro ion or
overheating or where the power cord appear to have been damaged in any way.
To prevent po ible overheating, do not cover the power adapter with clothing or other object
when the power adapter i plugged into an electrical outlet.
Exten ion cord and related device
Ensure that extension cords, surge protectors, uninterruptible po er supplies, and po er strips that you use
are rated to handle the electrical requirements of the product. Never overload these devices. If po er strips
are used, the load should not exceed the po er strip input rating. Consult an electrician for more information
if you have questions about po er loads, po er requirements, and input ratings.

Plug and outlet
DANGER
If a receptacle (power outlet) that you intend to u e with your computer equipment appear to be
damaged or corroded, do not u e the outlet until it i replaced by a qualified electrician.
Do not bend or modify the plug. If the plug i damaged, contact the manufacturer to obtain a
replacement.
Do not hare an electrical outlet with other home or commercial appliance that draw large
amount of electricity; otherwi e, un table voltage might damage your computer, data, or attached
device .
Some product are equipped with a three-pronged plug. Thi plug fit only into a grounded
electrical outlet. Thi i a afety feature. Do not defeat thi afety feature by trying to in ert it into a
non-grounded outlet. If you cannot in ert the plug into the outlet, contact an electrician for an
approved outlet adapter or to replace the outlet with one that enable thi afety feature. Never
overload an electrical outlet. The overall y tem load hould not exceed 80 percent of the branch
circuit rating. Con ult an electrician for more information if you have que tion about power load
and branch circuit rating .
Be ure that the power outlet you are u ing i properly wired, ea ily acce ible, and located clo e to
the equipment. Do not fully extend power cord in a way that will tre the cord .
Be ure that the power outlet provide the correct voltage and current for the product you are
in talling.
Carefully connect and di connect the equipment from the electrical outlet.

CAUTION:
Do not connect or di connect any external device cable other than Univer al Serial Bu (USB) and
1394 cable while the computer power i on; otherwi e, you might damage your computer. To avoid
po ible damage to attached device , wait at lea t five econd after the computer i hut down to
di connect external device .
General battery notice
DANGER
Batterie upplied by Lenovo for u e with your product have been te ted for compatibility and
hould only be replaced with approved part . A battery other than the one pecified by Lenovo, or a
di a embled or modified battery i not covered by the warranty.
Battery abu e or mi handling can cau e overheat, liquid leakage, or an explo ion. To avoid po ible
injury, do the following:
• Do not open, di emble, or ervice any battery.
• Do not cru h or puncture the battery.
• Do not hort-circuit the battery, or expo e it to water or other liquid .
• Keep the battery away from children.
• Keep the battery away from fire.
Stop u ing the battery if it i damaged, or if you notice any di charge or the buildup of foreign
material on the battery lead .
Store the rechargeable batterie or product containing the rechargeable batterie at room
temperature, charged to approximately 30 to 50% of capacity. We recommend that the batterie be
charged about once per year to prevent overdi charge.
Do not put the battery in tra h that i di po ed of in landfill . When di po ing of the battery, comply
with local ordinance or regulation .
Notice for built-in rechargeable battery
DANGER
Do not attempt to remove or replace the built-in rechargeable battery. Replacement of the battery
mu t be done by a Lenovo-authorized repair facility or technician.
Only recharge the battery trictly according to in truction included in the product documentation.
The Lenovo-authorized repair facilitie or technician recycle Lenovo batterie according to local
law and regulation .

Heat and product ventilation
DANGER
Computer , ac power adapter , and many acce orie can generate heat when turned on and when
batterie are charging. Notebook computer can generate a ignificant amount of heat due to their
compact ize. Alway follow the e ba ic precaution :
• When your computer i turned on or the battery i charging, the ba e, the palm re t, and ome
other part may become hot. Avoid keeping your hand , your lap, or any other part of your body
in contact with a hot ection of the computer for any extended length of time. When you u e the
keyboard, avoid keeping your palm on the palm re t for a prolonged period of time. Your
computer generate ome heat during normal operation. The amount of heat depend on the
amount of y tem activity and the battery charge level. Extended contact with your body, even
through clothing, could cau e di comfort or even a kin burn. Periodically take break from u ing
the keyboard by lifting your hand from the palm re t; and be careful not to u e the keyboard for
any extended length of time.
• Do not operate your computer or charge the battery near flammable material or in explo ive
environment .
• Ventilation lot , fan and/or heat ink are provided with the product for afety, comfort, and
reliable operation. The e feature might inadvertently become blocked by placing the product on
a bed, ofa, carpet, or other flexible urface. Never block, cover, or di able the e feature .
• When the ac power adapter i connected to an electrical outlet and your computer, it generate
heat. Do not place the adapter in contact with any part of your body while u ing it. Never u e the
ac power adapter to warm your body. Extended contact with your body, even through clothing,
may cau e a kin burn.
For your afety, alway follow the e ba ic precaution with your computer:
• Keep the cover clo ed whenever the computer i plugged in.
• Regularly in pect the out ide of the computer for du t accumulation.
• Remove du t from vent and any perforation in the bezel. More frequent cleaning might be
required for computer in du ty or high-traffic area .
• Do not re trict or block any ventilation opening .
• Do not operate your computer in ide furniture, a thi might increa e the ri k of overheating.
• Airflow temperature into the computer hould not exceed 35°C (95°F).

Electrical current afety information

• Do not connect or di connect any cable or perform in tallation, maintenance, or reconfiguration
of thi product during an electrical torm.
• Connect all power cord to a properly wired and grounded electrical outlet.
• Connect to properly wired outlet any equipment that will be attached to thi product.
• Whenever po ible, u e one hand only to connect or di connect ignal cable .
• Never turn on any equipment when there i evidence of fire, water, or tructural damage.
• Di connect the attached power cord , battery, and all the cable before you open the device
cover , unle in tructed otherwi e in the in tallation and configuration procedure .
• Do not u e your computer until all internal part enclo ure are fa tened into place. Never u e
the computer when internal part and circuit are expo ed.
DANGER
Connect and di connect cable a de cribed in the following procedure when in talling, moving,
or opening cover on thi product or attached device .
To connect:
1. Turn everything OFF.
2. Fir t, attach all cable to device .
3. Attach ignal cable to connector .
4. Attach power cord to outlet .
5. Turn device ON.
To di connect:
1. Turn everything OFF.
2. Fir t, remove power cord from outlet .
3. Remove ignal cable from connector .
4. Remove all cable from device .
The po er cord must be disconnected from the all outlet or receptacle before installing all other electrical
cables connected to the computer.
The po er cord may be reconnected to the all outlet or receptacle only after all other electrical cables have
been connected to the computer.
DANGER
During electrical torm , do not perform any replacement and do not connect the telephone cable
to or di connect it from the telephone outlet on the wall.

Liquid cry tal di play (LCD) notice

cau e the LCD to break. If the LCD break and the internal fluid get into your eye or on your hand ,
immediately wa h the affected area with water for at lea t 15 minute ; if any ymptom are pre ent

Note: For products ith mercury-containing fluorescent lamps (for example, non-LED), the fluorescent lamp
in the liquid crystal display (LCD) contains mercury; dispose of according to local, state, or federal la s.
U ing headphone or earphone
CAUTION:
Exce ive ound pre ure from earphone and headphone can cau e hearing lo . Adju tment of
the equalizer to maximum increa e the earphone and headphone output voltage and the ound
pre ure level. Therefore, to protect your hearing, adju t the equalizer to an appropriate level.
Excessive use of headphones or earphones for a long period of time at high volume can be dangerous if the
output of the headphone or earphone connectors do not comply ith specifications of EN 50332-2. The
headphone output connector of your computer complies ith EN 50332-2 Sub clause 7. This specification

If your Lenovo computer came ith headphones or earphones in the package, as a set, the combination of

The microphone captures sound and voice hen used ith a program capable of handling audio.
2 Camera tatu indicator
When this indicator is on, the camera is in use.
3 Camera
The camera enables you to take pictures or hold a video conference. For more information, see “Using the

4 Speaker
Your computer is equipped ith a pair of stereo speakers.
5 Power key
Press the po er key to turn on the computer.
To turn off the computer, do the follo ing:
• If you are not logged in to the operating system, click the po er icon in the lo er-left corner of the
screen.
• If you are logged in to the operating system, click the status area in the lo er-right corner of the screen,
and then click the po er icon .
If the computer stops responding, press and hold the po er key for about eight seconds to turn off the
computer. If the computer still does not respond, press the refresh key and the po er key at the
same time to turn off the computer.
6 Sy tem tatu indicator
The illuminated dot on the ThinkPad logo functions as a system status indicator.
7 Touch pad
Your computer is equipped ith a touch pad. The touch pad enables you to move the pointer and perform
click actions, ithout the use of a conventional mouse.
