Chapter 1. Getting started
This User’s Guide contains detailed information on the ThinkVision®P27u-20 Curved Panel Monitor. For a quick overview,
please see the Setup Poster that was shipped with your monitor.
ThinkVision P27u-20 supports Lenovo Display Control Center - ThinkColour.

Note: To achieve 4K daisy chain at 60Hz on P27u-20 monitor, a 40G Thunderbolt™ 4 cable is
required.
*: Depending on many factors such as the processing capability of peripheral devices, file
attributes, and other factors related to system configuration and operating environments,
the actual transfer rate using the various USB connectors on this device will vary and is
typically slower than the data rates as defined by the respective USB specifications: - 5
Gbit/s for USB 3.2 Gen 1; 10 Gbit/s for USB 3.2 Gen 2 x 2 Gbit/s for USB 3.2.

Notice for use
To setup your monitor, please see the illustrations below.
Note: Do not touch the monitor within the screen area. The screen area is glass and can be damaged by
rough handling or excessive pressure.
1. Place your monitor with the screen face down on a soft flat surface.
2. Align the stand assembly bracket to the monitor.
3. Insert the base towards the stand and tighten the thumbscrew.
Note: To attach a VESA mount, please see “Detaching the monitor stand” on page 2-10.

Setting up your monitor
This section provides information to help you set up your monitor.
Connecting and turning on your monitor
Note: Be sure to read the Safety Information located in the Flyer before carrying out this procedure.
1. Power off your computer and all attached devices, and unplug the computer power cord.
2. Connect the cables according to below icon indication.
Input Connectors(Rear view):

1 x Thunderbolt™4 (full function downstream port with 27W PD output)

2 x USB 3.0 Type-A (downstream)

3. Connect one end of the DisplayPort 1.2 cable to the DisplayPort connector on the back of the computer,
and the other end to the DisplayPort connector on the monitor. Lenovo recommends that customers
who require using the DisplayPort input on their monitor purchase the "Lenovo DisplayPort to
DisplayPort cable 0A36537".

4. Connect one end of the HDMI 2.0 cable to the HDMI connector on the back of the computer, and the
other end to the HDMI connector on the monitor. Lenovo recommends that customers who require to
use the HDMI input on their monitor purchase the “Lenovo HDMI to HDMI cable OB47070”.

5. Connect one end of the USB cable to the USB upstream terminal of the monitor, and connect the other
end of the USB cable to an appropriate USB port on your device.
Note:
1. The USB upstream port does not provide power while the monitor is switched off.
2. Power output for USB-A: 5V/0.9A.
3. Side Type-C maximum power is 28W (PPS Supported) / 24W and the PDO table is as below:

6. Connect the speaker’s audio cable and audio jack of monitor to transfer audio source from DP,
Thunderbolt™or HDMI.
Note 1: The audio output in DP, Thunderbolt™and HDMI modes.
Note 2: Excessive sound pressure from ear-/headphones can cause hearing damage/hearing loss.
7. Plug the monitor power cord and the computer cord into grounded electrical outlets.
Note: A certified power supply cord has to be used with this equipment. The relevant national
installation and/or equipment regulations shall be considered. A certified power supply cord not
lighter than ordinary polyvinyl chloride flexible cord according to IEC 60227 (designation H05VV-F 3G
0.75mm² or H05VVH2-F2 3G 0.75mm²) shall be used. Alternative a flexible cord be of synthetic rubber
according to IEC 60245 (designation H05RR-F 3G 0.75mm²) shall be used.

8. Connect one end of the Thunderbolt™4 cable to the Thunderbolt™connector of the computer, and the
other end to the Thunderbolt™connector on the monitor. Lenovo recommends that customers who
require using the Thunderbolt™ input on their monitor purchase the "Lenovo Thunderbolt™ 4 cable
TBD".

Note 1: P27u-20 monitor supports Thunderbolt™4.

9. Connect one end of the network cable to the Ethernet interface of the monitor and the other end to the
router.
10. Connect the Notebook Thunderbolt™ port to 1st P27u-20 Thunderbolt™ upstream port, and connect the
1st P27u-20 Thunderbolt™ downstream to 2nd P27u-20 Thunderbolt™ upstream port for display Daisy
chain function.
Note: To achieve 4K 60Hz x 2 display Daisy chain on P27u-20, certificated Thunderbolt™4 Notebook
and Thunderbolt 4™cable that support transmission speed up to 40 Gbps are required.

11. Connect Intel vPro®supported Notebook through P27u-20 Thunderbolt™ 4 interface can let you
remotely access/control computer via Intel Active Management Technology (Intel®AMT) when the
operating system is not available or even the computer is turned off.
Note 1: To active vPro®function of P27u-20, please see "OSD functions" on page 2-3.
Note 2: For more detail Intel vPro®settings, you can consult local IT for further information.
12. Recommended USB setup:
1) Connect Desktop with HDMI/DisplayPort and USB type B for display and USB function.
2) Connect Thunderbolt™ 4 cable or A to C cable to Notebook for USB function. Display
Thunderbolt™/ HDMI/DisplayPort signal.
3) Connect USB devices to USB-A or USB-C port.
4) USB devices can switch between USB-C and USB-B hosts by:
Quick access for KVM hot key on P27u-20.
Note 1: Please don’t hit switch bottom while USB data is still in transmission.
Note 2: Thunderbolt™ 4 downstream port is not in part of KVM group.

After operating, the OSD pops up. The USB devices and signal will be switched to another
upstream port after OSD disappears. You can bind USB-B and USB-C signals in the KVM option in
the OSD menu.
While operating, and if the USB device is working on data transferring, the port icon will be red, not
blue. There will be a pop-up message for the risk alert of data losing possibility.

13. Recommended Ethernet setup:
1) Connect Desktop with HDMI/DisplayPort and USB type B for USB Ethernet.
2) Connect single Thunderbolt™ 4 cable to Notebook for Display/Thunderbolt™/PCIe Ethernet.
3) Connect RJ45 cable (cat 5e above) to router.
Note 1: To enable Ethernet function of P27u-20, please see "OSD functions" on page 2-3.
Note 2: Both Thunderbolt™/USB-B Ethernet transmission through same LAN cable to router.
Note 3: RJ45 link rate LED indicator: Orange for 1G, Green for 100M, no light for 10M.
Note 4: To enable MAC address pass through (MAPT) or PXE for specific situation, you can consult
with local IT for support.

15. Power on the monitor and the computer.
16. To install the monitor driver, you must download it from Lenovo website，
(http://support.lenovo.com/docs/P27u-20) and follow the instructions on page 2-7.

Types of adjustments
Tilt
Please see the illustration below for an example of the tilt range.
Swivel
With the built-in pedestal, you can tilt and swivel the monitor for the most comfortable viewing angle.
Height Adjustment
After pressing the top of the monitor, you can adjust the height of the monitor.

Your monitor has controls at the right side which are used to adjust the display.
For information on how to use these controls, please see “Explore your monitor” on page 2-1.
Cable lock slot
Your monitor is equipped with a cable lock slot located on the rear of your monitor. Please follow the
instructions that came with the cable lock to attach it.
