NOTE
It represents an item or information that can be helpful in proceeding with the service.
Before disassembling the product, you have to remove the power supply first and pay attention
when the product has to use the power supply for tasks.
Important Notices
Check malfunctions after familiarizing yourself with the following.

Only a skilled person authorized by LG Electronics can repair the PCs.
Before replacing any parts, you must fully familiarize yourself with the part repair procedures shown in "Part
(FRU) disassembly and replacement".
If you should replace a part, you must use a new screw that is coated with nylon.
Pay special attention when you copy, save or format it. The drive for the PC being repaired might have changes
in the drive name or the sequence of driving booting.
If you select the wrong drive, it can delete the data or program.
When replacing a part, make sure to use the correct one for the model.
When replacing a part, you have to check whether the system mode and FRU's part number is the same as the
part number in the part (FRU) list.
After it malfunctions once, if you cannot reproduce it, you should not replace the part.
Due to the radiation in nature, discharging effects, or software errors which are not deemed to be a hardware
issue, it can malfunction only once.
You are supposed to replace parts if the same problem keeps taking place.
Do not replace any part until the same malfunction occurs again.
Pay special attention to avoid replacement of parts with no defects.
Things to do before the service
•Service personnel should prepare a "service record chart" before performing repair service.
•Before checking the product problem, refer to the below chart and check if the damage falls under the category of free
service.
•Even during the free repair period, if it is stored and operated in the environment of device misuse, accident, modification
or inadequacy, or if the problem is caused by repair works performed by non authorized persons, the user will be charged
the costs for repairs and parts.
•The table below shows the list of damages caused by device misuse which does not fall under the category of free service.

Parts with scratches or dent (especially exterior plastic parts)
Exterior parts that are deformed, changed or de-colorized
Plastic parts, latch, pin, connector and etc. that are broken by applying excessive force
Damage caused by liquid entering the system
Damage caused by inserting SD cards incorrectly or inserting incorrect SD cards
Damage caused by incorrectly inserting a memory in the USB port (or memory slot) or forcefully inserting
an incorrect memory
Fuse damage caused by connecting a device that is not supported
If you forgot the PC or storage's password
If the keyboard malfunctions because there is liquid all over it
The following symptoms indicate damages caused in repair works performed by someone other than authorized service
technicians.
• Some parts are missing.
• If the operating HDD generates strange noises, it can be a sign of damage by impacts or excessive force.

Common Safety Rules
Item Safety Rules
After replacing a part, do not turn on the power but first check whether every screw, spring and other small
parts are in the right place
and whether they go loose inside the PC. You can check it by shaking the PC. If you hear some sounds, it is not
normal. Metallic parts or pieces can cause electrical shocks.
If LCD is broken and leaking liquid enters your eyes, immediately wash the substance away with clean water for
minimum 15 minutes. If you feel any slightest trouble, visit your doctor immediately.
To prevent electrical shocks, do not remove the insulation sheets that are used to protect the main board, sub
board, or keyboard parts.
Before removing parts, turn off the power and remove the power cord form the outlet and separate the cable
connected.
Things to Check Before Works
• Before replacing the parts discussed in the manual, check if the latest versions of BIOS and drivers are installed.
NOTE
• Proceed as follows to prevent unnecessary part replacement and high service costs.
1 If the part replacement does not resolve the issue, you need to install the original part again.
2 Depending on the type of PC, there can be a processor board and a system board. Replace each board once at a time and install it.

3 If your adapter or device is made of many parts, one of them might cause a problem. Before replacing the adapter or device, replace
a part at a time and see if the symptom is changed. If it is, maintain the replacement of that specific part.
• It is possible that the BIOS setting for the PC in service is changed by the user. If you revert to the initial setting,
the setting by the user can be changed. Therefore, before providing the service, record the current setting changed
by the user and after the service, check if the user's setting is maintained.
CAUTION
!
• During or after the repair and maintenance works, make sure to nicely arrange the surroundings of your system.
• When you lift a heavy object,
1 Check whether it can stand still without slipping.
2 Make sure to evenly apply your weights to each foot.
3 Lift an object slowly. When lifting an object, do not make a sudden move or twist it.
4 Lift it by standing or using the leg muscles. (It is intended is to avoid overloading your muscles.) If you think it is too hard to lift it,
or if it weighs more than 16kg, do not attempt to lift it by yourself.
• Do not take an action that can harm yourself or equipment.
• Before starting the system, check if other service personnel or customer is in a dangerous positions.
• When the system is operating, place the disassembled cover and parts away from the reach of other persons.
• Do not place the tool box near persons so that others do not fall over it.
• Do not wear loose outfits that can get stuck in the operating machine. Tie up your sleeves or lift it above your elbow. Tie
your long hair.
• Insert the tip of your necktie or scarp into your clothes or fix the part that is about 8 cm (3 inch) from the tip with non
conductive clips.
• Do not wear jewelery, chains, metallic glasses, or cloth fixing metal pins.
• Metallic object is a good conductor.
CAUTION
!
• Make sure to wear a safety goggles when you involve use of dangerous materials such as hammers, drills, soldering rods,
cutting wires, spring attachment, solvent works and so on.
• After the service, reinstall all safety shields, protection boards, labels, ground wires and so on. If the safety devices are old
or damaged, replace them.
• Before returning the system to the customer, reinstall all the covers.
Safety Cautions for Electricity
• Use approved tools and test equipments only. Some of tools used by the hands are wrapped by soft materials that are
not insulated.
• In man cases, rubber mats with a slight amount of conductive textile are used to reduce the level of ESD. To prevent
electrical shocks, do not use this kind of mats.
CAUTION
!
• Check the indoor emergency power switch (EPO), separation switch or electrical outlet. Consequently, when an electricity
accident occurs, you can quickly turn off the switch, or remove the power cord.
• Do not work alone hear the equipment with high voltage or in a dangerous environment.

• Turn off all the powers before performing the following tasks.
1 Machine inspection
2 Work near the power supply
3 Main device removal or installation
• Before working on the system, remove the power cord. If you cannot remove the power cord, ask the customer to turn
off the switch for the power supply box that supplies power to the system and lock it.
• If you work in the system that exposes the electrical circuits, you must take the following preventive actions. Work next
to the person who is familiar with the electrical power system.
• If necessary, let other persons be located in the spot where they can easily turn off the power switch.
CAUTION
!
• If you work on the equipment with power on, use one hand only. Put the other hand in the pocket or move it behind your
back.
• Electrical shocks only occur when the circuit composition is completed. If you obey the above rules, you can prevent
current conduction in your boy.
CAUTION
!
• When using a tester, accurately set the control switch and use the tester reader and additional devices.
• To protect yourself against metallic floor, or machine devices groundings, you must stand on a proper type of rubber mat.
• For safe works, periodically inspect and repair electrical tools that you use with hands.
• Take the special safety prevention measures when working with high voltage. The items are related to safety cautions for
repair and maintenance. Be extra careful when you measure a high voltage.
• Do not use an old or malfunctioning device or tester.
• Do not assume that the circuit is powered off. First check yourself that the power is off.
• Carefully observe potential risk factors near the working areas. Wet floors, not grounded expansion power cables, sudden
voltage change (surge) or instable ground are the risk factors.
• Do not touch the electrical circuit with something like a plastic dental mirror The surface of dental mirror is a conductor
so if you touch the circuitry with it, it can cause damages to the human body or the system.
• If the following parts are out of their position in the system, do not start the service while the power is on.
1 Power supply
2 Pump
3 Ventilator or fan
4 Motor
5 Other similar devices (always check the grounds for these devices.)
• If an electrical accident occurs,
1 Pay special attention to avoid becoming a victim yourself.
2 Turn off the power switch.
3 Ask others to request medical supports.

Safety Inspection Guide
The goals of the safety inspection is to help them being aware of the potentially risky environments. Each product is equipped
with safety devices that can protect the users and the service technicians. The guide shows such devices. During service, you
need to check the potential risks imposed by attachment of option items not suggested in the inspection guide or the product
not sold from LG Electronics. If there are many factors for insecurity, determine the level of risk and also whether you can
proceed further without fixing the problems.
Consider the following conditions and risk factors.

Electrical danger, especially the main power (the main voltage for the system frame can cause a severe or fatal
electrical shock.)
Mechanical risks such as loosely installed or slipping hardware components.
According to the following inspection items, turn off the power and separate the power cord and start your inspection.

Check for damages to the external cover. (Loose or broken or sharp edges)
Turn off the PC. And remove the power cord.

Ʃ3 wire ground connector status (using a tester, check if the resistance between the external contact pin
of the 3 wire ground connector and the system ground is below 0.1Ω.)
ƩUse the type of power cord that is listed in the part list.
ƩMake sure that the insulation part is not worn out or old.
Remove the cover.
Check if there is a non authentic LG device used. If an alternative device than authentic LG product is used,
check the safety very carefully.
Thoroughly check if there is a factor for causing damages such as by metallic materials, pollutants, water or
liquid or ignition inside the device.
Check if any cable is worn out or old or if it has holes.
Check if the power supply's cover fixing iron (screw or rivet) is removed or changed.
Handling Parts Sensitive to Static Electricity
Parts containing transistors or IC are mostly sensitive to static electricity (ESD).
Static electricity damage can occur due to the difference in charges between objects.
By making sure that everyone handling parts, as well as systems, working mats, and parts have the same potential, you can
prevent EDS damages.
• If the requirements listed here do not exist, use the product related ESD processes.
• Check if the ESD protection device in used is certified with ISO 9000.

• When handling parts sensitive to static electricity
1 Store the parts in the protection package until they are mounted in the product, in order to protect them.
2 Wear a ground wrist lace around your wrist to remove static electricity from the body.
3 Do not let the part come in contact with the clothes. (Most of clothes are insulators, so even if you wear a wrist lace, you still have
changes.)
4 If you use a black side of the grounded working mat, you can create an ESD free environment. It is very useful when you handle
parts sensitive to ESD.
5 To prepare a protection equipment that satisfies the specific service condition, select the following types of grounding systems.
• It is desirable to use a grounding system, but it is not required for ESD prevention.
NOTE

Attach an ESD grounding clip to the system ground, the ground wire or the green ground wire.
When working on the dual insulation or battery based system, use the ESD common ground or reference
point.
In addition, you can use the copper axis or external connector shell for the system.
The PC operating with AC power uses a round ground plugs for the AC plug.
Grounding Conditions
If you connect the PC to the ground, you can ensure the safety of worker and also guarantee that the system operates properly.
The ground for the electrical outlet should be checked by approved electrical technicians.
Cautionary Items for Batteries (Laptop/Tablet)
Items Cautions
The backup battery (RTC Battery) contains a slight amount of lithium and manganese. Do not disassemble,
recharge the backup battery, or throw it in the water or make an electrical short circuit in it. You should handle
the battery according to the regulations. You need to only use or replace with the battery in the part list. If the
battery is used/replaced in an incorrect way, it can cause ignition or explosions. (Depending on the type of PC,
there could be no backup battery in it.)
Battery pack contains a slight amount of nickel. Do not disassemble the battery, or throw it in the water or
make an electrical short circuit in it. You should handle the battery according to the regulations. When replacing
the battery, you must only use or replace with the battery in the part list. If the battery is used/replaced in an
incorrect way, it can cause ignition or explosions.
Lithium ion battery (main battery) can cause ignition, explosion or severe burn injury. Do not recharge or
disassemble the battery, remove the pole connectors from it, heat it above 60 ℃(140 ℉) , incinerate it or drop
the content of battery in water. You should handle the battery according to the regulations. You need to only
use or replace with the battery in the part list. If the battery is used/replaced in an incorrect way, it can cause
ignition or explosions.

Cautionary Items for Storage Devices (HDD/SSD) Replacement
• Before replacing or formatting the storage device (HDD/SSD), you must get consent from the customers. (Notify the
customer of the fact that they are responsible for data losses.)
• The OS for the PC in service might be installed on other drive than the C drive. Therefore, special caution is required for
data copying, saving or formatting. Incorrect selection of a drive can lead to damages to the data and software on the
drive.

Cautionary Items for Optical Devices (CD/DVD-ROM and etc)
When performing repair and maintenance on optical devices such as CD/DVD-ROM, pay attention to the following.
• If you disassemble the CD/DVD-ROM drive, you can be exposed to harmful laser radiations. There are no replacement
parts for those in the CD/DVD drive, so do not disassemble it on your own.
• If you set, adjust or run the processes not discussed here, you can be exposed to harmful laser radiations.
• When the CD-ROM is disassembled, laser will be irradiated. Do not look into the rays. In addition, do not look
directly into the optical devices and avoid direct exposures to the light rays.

When replacing or disposing of the backup (standby) RTC battery, note the following :

• It supports USB 3.1 Gen 2. Devices that are not authorized with USB may not operate normally when connected to the
USB port.
The transmission speed of a USB port may differ depending on the type of storage device (NVMe, SSD, HDD, etc.) in the

• Thunderbolt™ connection may not be supported in some models. Depending on the specifications of the device connected
to the USB-C™ port, it acts as a USB 3.1 or Thunderbolt™ port.
The USB-C™ port provides Quick Charging and Always-On Charging functions for devices that support USB PD (Power
Delivery).
• The 4-pole ear microphone port supports US type 4-pole standards and the European 4-pole ear microphone may not
work properly.
When using ear microphone (or Bluetooth headset), audio input and output are directed to the connected device and the
microphone and speaker on PC do not work.
The 4-pole ear microphone port does not support external microphone.

Using Hot Keys
You can use hot keys to use the PC more conveniently.
Fn + F1 Executes LG Control Center.
Fn + F2 Decreases LCD brightness, which can have eleven different levels.
Fn + F3 Increases LCD brightness, which can have eleven different levels.
Fn + F4 Runs the mode defined in Windows Sleep Mode. (Example: Standby Mode, Hibernate Mode)
Fn + F5 Every time you press [Fn] + [F5], the mode switches between Touchpad Off (touchpad is disabled) and
Touchpad On (touchpad is enabled).
To set Touchpad Auto (touchpad is disabled when an external USB mouse is inserted), press the
[ ] button and disable [Turn on touchpad when a mouse is connected] under [Settings] > [Device]
> [Touchpad].
Every time you press [Fn] + [F5], the mode switches between Touchpad Off and Touchpad Auto.
• Since it takes about 1 to 2 seconds to initialize after switching to the touchpad function, we
recommend you to use the device after initialization is completed.

Fn + F6 Airplane Mode ON/OFF (Wireless LAN and Bluetooth OFF/ON)
Fn + F7 Switches between monitor and projector.

Operation Status Lamps
1 AC Adapter Lamp
• On: The AC adapter is connected.
• Off: The AC adapter is not connected.
• If you try to turn on the system that has entered the Hibernate mode or been turned off after a low-battery alarm,
the system will not be turned on but the lamp will blink three times. If this is the case, connect the AC adapter and
charge the battery sufficiently before using it.
2 Power lamp (a model with fingerprint recognition system)
• On: The system is on and running by the AC adapter or battery.
• Off: When the system is turned off or in Hibernate mode
• Blinking: The system is in the standby mode.
3 Power lamp (a model without fingerprint recognition system)
• On: The system is on and running by the AC adapter or battery.
• Off: When the system is turned off or in Hibernate mode
• Blinking: The system is in the standby mode.
4 Caps Lock Lamp
• On: When the Caps Lock is activated
• Off: When the Caps Lock is deactivated
5 Touchpad Lamp
• On: When the touchpad is activated
• Off: When the touchpad is deactivated
6 Reader Mode Lamp
• On: When reader mode is activated
• Off: When reader mode is deactivated
7 Webcam Operation Status Lamp
• On: When the webcam is operating
• Off: When the webcam is not operating
• Applies only to models equipped with a webcam.

BIOS Flash
Using the USB memory, update the BIOS setting.
The system does not provide a USB device in the basic package, so you should use an additional USB device.
If you enter the setup menu in Windows 10 System, you must use "Restart" instead of "System Terminate".
Before booting with EFI Shell, you must disable the Secure Boot Option first.
To boot the system with a USB, first hit the [F2] key to enter the BIOS Setup menu and in the Boot Menu, switch the USB
device to the highest booting priority or press the [F10] key when the LG logo is displayed to retrieve the Boot Menu and select
the device to use next time.
• Flash sequence is as follows.
1 Prepare a USB memory that can boot as an EFI shell.
2 After decompressing the BIOS Flash files, copy them to the USB device.
3 Connect a USB memory to the USB port for the system to flash.
4 In Windows 10, select "Restart".
5 During booting, press the [F2] key to run the BIOS Setup menu and press the [Security] button after that.
6 Disable the Secure Boot option.
7 Press Exit Saving Changes or the [F10] key to save it and use the USB memory to boot with EFI Shell.
8 After typing in the BIOS file name, press Enter to run the BIOS flash.
9 When flashing is finished, the system will automatically reboot itself.

Check Secure Boot
When the product is delivered to a user, make sure that Secure Boot is enabled. Secure Boot can be disabled in the following
cases.
1 When SPI ROM is replaced,
2 When Secure Boot option is disabled for EFI Shell Booting,
3 When it is not a Windows 10 model (Non-OS model and etc)
• The following is how to enable the Secure Boot option.
1 Enter the BIOS Setup menu and select the Security menu and move to "Secure Boot Configuration"
2 At the top of the screen, check whether all of UEFI Secure Boot and Protected Signatures are enabled.
3 UEFI Secure Boot: Disabled / Protected Signatures: If disabled, switch the Secure Boot Option to Enable.
4 UEFI Secure Boot: Disabled / Protected Signatures: If disabled, run the Reset to Default option (Warning message: Yes), and switch
the Secure Boot Option to Enable.
5 In the Exit menu, select Exit Saving Changes or press the [F10] key to save the settings and terminate.
6 When the system is rebooted, enter the BIOS Setup menu again and check if the Secure Boot setting is as shown in the below
figure. (Check UEFI Secure Boot / Protected Signatures / Secure Boot Option.)

BIOS Setup
Understanding the BIOS Setting
BIOS (Basic Input and Output System) Setup allows you to save the system configuration from the system BIOS to the CMOS
RAM, so that system configuration items can be checked during system booting. A user can set the functions to change the
environment settings for the laptop, to change the hardware installed on it or to save the electrical power.
Setup execution is required in the following cases.
• When you change in the setup needed for the user.
• In case of system composition errors in the system
• When you change the boot sequence
• When you set and change the password
1 In Windows 10, select "Restart".
2 After the restart, press the [F2] key. The booting speed is faster than the existing models. You'd better press it as soon
as the system restarts.
