SO YOU’VE JUST ORDERED YOUR FIRST LIGHT OARD KIT FROM US … WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED
TO GET YOUR LIGHT OARD STUDIO UP AND RUNNING?
EASY: JUST THREE MORE THINGS AND YOU’LL E READY TO GO…
A) VIDEO RECORDING DEVICE
We suggest a USB Webcam with a resolution of 720p (HD) or Higher. Being a USB device makes it very
easy, quick and convenient to connect to your PC.
We DO NOT recommend using a camera with a Wide-Angle Lens (such as fisheye, or any camera with a Field of View greater than
80 degrees) as it WILL NOT work immediately with the LightBoard setup without additional software correction!
[Contact us for more
details if you have a wide-angle camera already and wish to use it with your LightBoard]
We DO NOT recommend using your webcam’s integrated microphone, as capturing your voice from a distance will be difficult.
Remember, you will be presenting from behind a Glass/Acrylic Windowpane!!
) AUDIO RECORDING DEVICE
We suggest a dedicated USB Microphone that can either:
(i) Sit on a desktop
(ii) Hang over top of your LightBoard frame, via a Stand w/ Boom
(iii) Attach to your clothing
(iv) Clip onto your Lightboard frame (frame rails are 0mm thick)
Being a USB device makes it very convenient to connect to your PC without the need for an amplifier or phantom
power supply in most cases.
C) SOFTWARE FOR VIDEO STREAMING AND RECORDING
We suggest getting started with Open Source software such as O S Studio (https://obsproject.com/).
This is an excellent FREE software package that offers plenty of powerful tools for Live & Recorded
videos. The O S Virtual Camera, is now included by default in OBS, and allows you to make use of the
functionality of the OBS software from within another online meeting platform such as Teams, Zoom,
WebEx, etc. This is useful for live-sessions.
OTHER THINGS YOU MAY NEED…
a TRIPOD for your video camera and/or microphone boom.
If you’ve got a Sit-Stand kit, we recommend having a tripod that has a manual
hand-crank adjustment to make setup quicker and easier to go along with your
adjustable tabletop). Our Stock kits do NOT include this tripod.
A Power/Surge bar & Extension Cables for your Studio
When everything is set up, your studio can use anywhere from 4 up to 6 electrical
outlets or more and may need the convenience of longer extension cables and/or
Surge bars to increase the number of available sockets.

PART 2 - ASSEM LY OF YOUR SIT-STAND TA LE
If you’ve purchased the Sit-Stand Kit, please refer to the below instruction as to how to
securely attach your tabletop to the Sit-Stand Mechanism provided with the kit
Tools you will need before starting:
•#2 Philips-head (Star) Screw driver
•(optional) C
ordless-drill with a #2 Phillips bit AND a 1/16-in drill bit for pilot holes
A) STEP 1 – SIT-STAND MECHANISM ASSEMBLY
Open your provided Sit-Stand mechanism box and find the provided assembly tools, hardware and assembly
instruction pamphlet. Please follow the instructions provided in the kit to assemble the mechanism.
) STEP 2 – ATTACHING THE TABLETOP
To attach the provided tabletop, first check to see if your provided tabletop has pre-drilled holes in it.
•If your tabletop has pre-drilled holes, place it face-down onto a clean, flat surface, and rest your sit-stand
mechanism on top (the feet should be pointing upward). You may use the existing holes as a guide when
spreading the sit-stand legs apart. Simply follow the instructions provided with the sit-stand mechanism
and use the provided wood screws to screw the mechanism onto the tabletop as directed.
• If your tabletop does NOT have pre-drilled holes, place it face-down onto a clean, flat surface, and rest
your sit-stand mechanism on top (the feet should be pointing upward). You will then need to center and
align the legs on your table top and spread the legs to a spacing of at least 42-in, wider is preferred for
stability, tabletop permitting. Once the legs are centered and spread to an appropriate position, there are
two options:
i) Mark the holes as directed in the instructions for the sit-stand, and use a drill with a 1/16-in drill-bit
to drill pilot holes for your screws. This will ensure straightness and best security of your desk
ii) If you do not have access to a drill, the wood screws CAN be screwed in directly to the tabletop
securely using a screwdriver, but the table is less likely to remain centered and there is risk it will
not stay level depending on how flush/straight the screws sit into the tabletop when done by hand
without pilot holes.
C) STEP – FINISHING THE SETUP
Once the tabletop is secured, ask for assistance and flip the table upright. Ensure the tabletop is stable, and test
the controls (either manual or electric) to ensure all mechanisms are functioning properly before putting your
LightBoard onto the desk.
Once the above is confirmed, you may now place your LightBoard safely onto the sit-stand desk and start your first
session!

BELOW ARE THE BASIC SETUP INSTRUCTIONS AND BEST PRACTICES TO HELP YOU LAYOUT YOUR
STUDIO SPACE AS EFFICIENTLY AND EFFECTIVELY AS POSSIBLE
NOTE: The following instructions are assuming the use of a webcam with 78-Degree Field of View. If your camera
captures a wider/narrower range, minor adjustments from what is written will be needed for optimal positioning.
ASIC PHYSICAL SETUP
L) STEP 1
Identify an area of at minimum 5-ft x 6-ft or larger. Ideally, this area will include an uninterrupted wall along one
side (this wall will be the backdrop for your recording and streaming). A room in which the light can be controlled
is also recommended. This is a convenient time to hang or mount the black backdrop sheet on the wall. The
method of attachment is left to the customer; however, you should attempt to minimize wrinkles or creases in the
fabric. A mounting method that allows the sheet to be pulled-tight is preferred, but not necessary. Ironing the
sheet may also be helpful.
M) STEP 2
Position the LightBoard table/desk centrally along the designated backdrop wall. A clearance of approximately 2-ft
between the wall and the desk is recommended.
N) STEP 3
Position the LightBoard on the desk, centered with respect to the backdrop-wall. The LightBoard writing surface
(the glass or acrylic) should be approximately 2 to 6-in from the wall. Note: Lifting the LightBoard onto the desk
requires 2 people.
The height of the LightBoard should be adjusted such that the lower edge of the LightBoard glass (or acrylic) is
approximately level with the presenter’s elbows (with their arms at their sides). The height of the LightBoard can
be adjusted using the functionality included with either a manual-crank or electric sit-stand desk. Manual height
adjustment (and responsibility for stability) is left to the customer.
O) STEP 4
Clean the LightBoard using the recommended cleaning procedure. Pay particular attention to the camera-side of
the LightBoard glass. This side will be more difficult to access after the setup is complete.

[C]
P) STEP 5
Position the webcam (or other camera) on a tripod or other support structure (not supplied) approximately 2-in
from the LightBoard glass. The height of the camera should be approximately equal to the center of the glass. This
will minimize ‘keystone’ effects in the video frame.
Q) STEP 6
Connect a laptop computer to the USB Camera and position it on the LightBoard desk. Position the laptop such
that the presenter can view the laptop screen ‘through’ the LightBoard glass. The laptop should be opened to a
wide angle to avoid reflections. Connect an extra monitor, microphone, or any other computer peripherals. A
wireless keyboard and mouse are convenient but not necessary. If an additional monitor is used, the monitor
support-stand should be removed so the monitor can be positioned ‘flat’ on the LightBoard desktop beside the
laptop computer.
R) STEP 7
Turn on the computer and navigate to the software supplied with your camera, or any other software that will
display the video feed from the camera. Stand between the backdrop wall and the LightBoard in the position of a
presenter. Ensure that your camera is set to “Widescreen” (16:9) display mode. With the room lights on, you
should see a video-feed of yourself standing behind the LightBoard. Adjust the position of the LightBoard on the
desktop so the left & right sides of the aluminum frame is just outside the view of the camera. If either the top or
bottom frame is visible, adjust the camera accordingly. Note: The measurements in these instructions have been
tested using a Logitech HD Pro C920 Webcam with a ‘field-of-view’ in the range of 78-degrees in widescreen-
mode. You may need to adjust the set-up distances if your camera has a different field-of-view.
NOTE: the camera will NOT cover the entire glass area; Don’t Panic! This is
intended: this space is used for Private Notes for the Presenter as well as
extra space to assist in cleaning and quickly wiping away residue out of the
cameras field of view!
If you are still having difficulty fitting your camera into the screen area without
capturing the frame, or area/walls outside of the backdrop coverage, try
switching your settings in OBS (or other software in use) to 60 Deg instead.
Minor physical adjustments in camera position and screen position may be
needed to accommodate.

S) STEP 8
Attach the camera-tent fabric (long-side) to the top of the LightBoard frame using the clips provided. Center the
fabric so there is an equal length on either side. Position the camera tent-pole just behind the camera tripod and
adjust the height of the pole so the top of the pole is approximately the same height as the top of the LightBoard
frame. Carefully lift the free-end of the fabric and drape it over the top of the pole; use a clip to connect the fabric
to the pole a few inches from the top of the pole. Check the video-feed to make sure the tent-fabric is not
obstructing the camera; adjust accordingly. Use clips to connect the fabric on the sides of the frame as required.
The fabric should be reasonably tight, but not to the extent that it topples the tent-pole.
T) STEP 9
Position the two presenter lights on either side of the LightBoard desk. The lights should be 2 to -ft away from
the LightBoard frame, and they should be aimed at the presenter. Turn on the lights and adjust their position to
illuminate the presenter but minimize the illumination of the backdrop. This should be done with the ‘room’
overhead lights turned off and any blinds or curtains closed. The brightness and colour of the presenter lights are
adjustable. If there is a glare from the lights in the video-feed, make sure the camera-tent is properly positioned.
If there is a reflection from the laptop screen or additional monitor screen, adjust them accordingly.
U) STEP 10
The basic physical setup is now complete. The remainder of the setup involves recording or streaming software, as
well as the software that controls your camera. As a quick-start guide, the following settings are recommended:
turn camera brightness down to about 60-70% of the default value (this is what makes the black-backdrop
‘disappear’), disable auto-focus, auto white-balance, auto-exposure, and auto low-level light adjustment. A
resolution of 1280x720 works well for streaming and recording, although higher resolutions may be preferred for
recording-only. For smaller writing on the LightBoard the ‘sharpen’ feature of the camera software can be useful.
If colour is important in your videos, you may also wish to customize the related settings in your camera and/or
recording software.
PRO-TIP: When your camera is centered, there will be about a 1-inch strip at the top & bottom of your Light oard canvas
which the camera will not see; This can be used as a writing space for Personal/Private notes during your session!

THE FOLLOWING GUIDE WILL PROVIDE INSTRUCTIONS AS TO THE EST PRACTICES IN HANDLING
& MAINTAINING YOUR GLASS AND/OR ACRYLIC WRITING CANVAS FOR YOUR LIGHT OARD KITS.
REGULAR CLEANING
During normal use of your Light oard (Glass or Acrylic) a buildup of marker residue is unavoidable. In
addition, there will be dust, fingerprints, and other external sources of dirt due to handling & environmental
factors.
The following is a guide on how to most effectively clean your Light oard writing canvas. This can be done “as
needed” which could be weekly, after every session, or even during a session if necessary.
What you will need to get started with this process are the following items which are provided in your kits:
Microfiber Cloth
Squeegee (with provided option of Microfiber scrubber)
700mL Spray Bottle (to be filled with Dish Soap & Water)
You will also need the following for optimal cleaning:
Roll of home-use soft Paper Towels
Dish soap
V) ERASING WRITING OFF THE SCREEN
•To Erase your dry-erase markers off the LightBoard, the most effective approach to preserve your
microfiber cloth and reduce cleaning is to:
oFIRST: Wipe your writing off using a dry, soft disposable paper towel (will leave some streaks)
oSECOND: to completely erase the remaining streaks, wipe using your Microfiber cloth
•The provided Microfiber Cloth is washable, reusable and should last up to 5 years if well maintained. It
can be washed as described below but this may become difficult later depending on the markers used,
and absorbed into the cloth through cleaning.
For best use, Wet your Microfiber cloth under a faucet or other water source and be sure to thoroughly ring excess
water out of the cloth such that it is left mildly Damp, nearly dry, and NOT dripping water when squeezed.
If your cloth becomes too dry after extended use & time, simple repeat the process above so the cloth remains
effective in cleaning your LightBoard during further use.
W) WASHING THE LIGHT OARD
After extended use and/or handling, you will likely need to give your entire LightBoard a thorough wash which is
best done with the Squeegee & 700mL Spray bottle provided in your kit.
i) First, put a few drops of clear Dish Soap in the Spray bottle, and then fill with clean water (avoid creamy
soaps).
ii) Before you begin washing, it is advised to either blow, or gently wipe the canvas with a soft lint-free cloth
to remove large dust & debris that could risk potential scratching during the cleaning process
iii) After large dust and debris has been removed, use the spray bottle to lightly dampen, NOT soak, the
Squeegee’s Microfiber Scrubber, and use the scrubber to thoroughly wet the entire writing canvas.
PRODUCT CARE & MAINTENANCE
15 | P a g e
Need more help? Contact us any time at:
info@lightboarddepot.com
[D]
•We recommend placing a spare towel either underneath the Light oard, or clipped onto the bottom of the
Light oard frame to prevent excess water from dripping onto your desktop and/or floor.
•You may alternatively directly spray the canvas with the spray bottle, but this will likely produce more excess
water drip from the Light oard while cleaning.
iv) Once the entire writing canvas has been covered with water, proceed to use the rubber Squeegee, wiping
in one-direction vertically (top-to-bottom) in single motions, to pull all water and residue onto the lower
region (about 1-inch from the bottom) of the canvas. Continue to do this across the entire screen until all
water & visible streaks are removed.
•The lower (and upper) 1-inch of the writing canvas should be invisible to your camera, when centered, and
thus will not show up during your sessions and does not need to be completely cleaned for practical use.
PRO-TIP: This area can also be used to make personal notes wile presenting which the viewers cannot see!
v) Repeat steps (iii) to (iv) until all residue has been removed from the primary writing area.
•It is recommended to have the Light oard ON while cleaning to make residue more visible.
NOTE: If you are finding it too difficult to completely clean the main areas of your Lightboard canvas, try turning the
rightness of your Light oard DOWN --- Using your remote control provided in your kit, you should be able to set
the rightness down to a level where your Camera can still see you and your markers clearly, but leftover residue,
fingerprints, dust, etc. will become virtually invisible to the camera; This is your ideal lighting-level for presenting.
X) HANDLING SCRATCHES & SCUFFS <<FOR ACRYLIC LIGHTBOARDS ONLY>>
oth the Glass & Acrylic writing canvases should be handled with great care to avoid physical damage &
scratches if you wish to maximize the quality & longevity of your Light oard.
•If you are using an Acrylic LightBoard, this screen will be more susceptible to visible scratches and scuffs if
mishandle. Do not panic! This is okay and normal during the use of the LightBoard.
•Provided in your Acrylic Lightboard kit is an Acrylic Polish which will help you remove the majority of fine
scratches and help to maintain the quality & longevity of your LightBoard writing canvas
oNOTE: More aggressive polish can be purchased if you find there are deeper scratches that cannot be easily
removed with the polish provided in your kit.
To get started you will need the following items from your kit:
Microfiber Cloth (or another soft, lint-free cloth you may own)
Bottle of Acrylic Polish
WARNING: efore you start, please note that you should take extra caution in ensuring NO polish gets onto your
tabletop, or other furniture, as it can be very difficult to remove. Use of the Polish should be done sparingly and
it is recommended to have a towel, or other protective material, underneath your workspace to catch any
excess polish that may fall during the cleaning process.
i) Before polishing, it is recommended to perform ( ) WASHING THE LIGHT OARD above to ensure all dust &
dirt is removed from the affected area. It is also recommended to have your LightBoard TURNED ON to make
scratches more visible while polishing
ii) To get started, spray a generous amount of polish directly onto the scratch you wish to remove.
iii) Proceed to rub the polish in using a soft, lint-free cloth, or alternatively a soft paper tower, using light
pressure and in a circular motion around the scratched area to buff the scratches out.
iv) Periodically check the area by wiping away the polish with your cloth to see if the scratch is removed.
v) If the scratch is not yet removed, repeat steps ii to iv until the scratch is removed to your satisfaction.

[D]
NOTE: if the scratch has not been removed after several attempts ( or more cycles), you may need to investigate
a more aggressive polish (see image below for a reference). Most scratches will not be visible to your audience,
so again: Do not panic!
vi) Once you are satisfied with the results, you should thoroughly clean the LightBoard of all polish & residue
outlined described in ( ) WASHING THE LIGHT OARD.
NOTE: OVER polishing an area risks compromising the effectiveness of your markers from writing and cleaning from that
surface, and all polishing should be kept to a minimum and should be done with care.

THIS DOCUMENT WILL EXPLAIN THE EST PRACTICES AND REOCMMENDED FOR SAFE USAGE &
HANDLING OF YOUR LIGHT OARD KITS.
HANDLING YOUR GLASS LIGHT OARD KIT
Y) TRANSPORTATION
Lightboards made with the GLASS writing canvas can be quite heavy, and it is highly advised that TWO people are
present whenever moving or otherwise transporting the LightBoard, either short or long distances.
Lifting should always be done with the legs, and with a straight back, and following proper
ergonomic lifting techniques to avoid injury.
If you are unsure or uncomfortable about lifting objects heavier 50lbs (22kg) [25lbs per
person with two people], you should NOT attempt to carry this LightBoard by yourself, and
consult a friend or family member to assist in your place.
Z) HANDLING
The Glass writing canvas is FRAGILE and should be handled with great care and used/placed
securely in an area away from children and/or significant physical activity.
If the Lightboard is dropped, or otherwise struck with significant force, it is highly likely to
shatter and poses a serious risk of injury. The glass will break into large, dangerous pieces and
should be handled with EXTREME caution when cleaning up.
In the event the Glass is broken, you should use extreme caution to first: isolate the area in which the glass has
fallen, then attempt to clean the mess up from a safe distance using necessary protective equipment. If necessary
or safety equipment is unavailable, hire a professional to assist in safe cleaning & disposal of the broken glass.
If you do not feel safe or comfortable cleaning the broken glass DO NOT attempt to do it yourself, and consult with
your friends, family and/or a professional first before going any further. Just be sure that the area is well isolated
from pets & people to avoid unnecessary injury if they are unaware of the situation.

HANDLING YOUR ACRYLIC LIGHT OARD KIT
A) TRANSPORTATION
Lightboards made with the ACRYLIC writing canvas, while much lighter than glass, can still be heavy and/or
awkward for some individuals to carry alone, and it is highly advised that TWO people are present whenever
moving or otherwise transporting the LightBoard, either short or long distances.
Lifting should always be done with the legs, and with a straight back, and following proper
ergonomic lifting techniques to avoid injury.
If you are unsure or uncomfortable about lifting objects heavier 30lbs (15kg) [15lbs per person
with two people], you should NOT attempt to carry this LightBoard by yourself, and consult a
friend or family member to assist in your place.
) HANDLING
The Acrylic writing canvas is NOT breakable, but is much more prone to visible scratches & damage. To avoid
unwanted maintenance, the LightBoard should handles with care and be kept in an area that is not heavily prone
to dust, debris or potential activities in which the screen may be struck or scratched by objects.
If damage occurs to the Acrylic writing canvas, you should consult the Product Care & Maintenance document
provided with your kit which explains how to remove these defects and adequately maintain your LightBoard.
