XT Series HFC Repeater Quick Start Guide
SETUP GUIDELINES
1. Before applying power to the XT device, make sure the RF input is in the range of 10 dBmV/CH for digital channels, and 15 dBmV/CH for analog channels. Refer to
the chart in the manual for RF input level v/s OMI/channel for setup.
2. Apply 40-90 VAC HFC power to the XT unit. You should see the 3 V and 9 V LED turn ON (GREEN).
3. Check DS RF input levels on the bi-directional -20 dB test point.
4. Install a 1.2 GHz JXP cable simulator or a 0 dB JXP attenuator pad in the UPP plug-in as per requirements on the network. The input to the DS laser TX should be
as flat as possible.
5. Connect optical service cable(s) to connect subscribers. Make sure the 1550 nm downstream optical output from the XT subscriber ports is as per specification.
Refer to the manual for specifications.
6. For setup, follow the menu flow chart shown in the XT lid.
7. Adjust forward RF attenuation (AF), forward equalizer (EF) as per the requirement.
8. Measure DS RF parameters at the output of subscriber ONU to optimize levels. Adjust the DS settings of the XT as desired.
9. Adjust the optical input upstream power (OP) value equal to the average upstream optical power input to the XT from RFoG ONU(s).
10. After setting OP parameter, adjust the AR and SP parameter on the setup menu.
11. To be safe, start with an OP value of +3 dBm. This will ensure the XT upstream path has lowest gain. Then as required, change the OP setting towards negative
values. At -9 dBm OP value, the XT will have maximum gain in the upstream path. It’s recommended to first set OP values before making changes to AR parameter
values in XT.
12. Inject an upstream carrier into the ONU and measure at the XT bi-directional test point to optimize levels. Adjust the US settings of XT as desired.
13. Please refer to the user manual for more details on XT setup.
14. Route the fibers properly. Make sure they do not get pinched or bent too tightly in the unit. Secure all connections. Record levels at the station and close the lid
properly.
