INSTALLATION
PRECAUTIONS
•
Choose the mounting location carefully so that the unit will not interfere with normal driving functions.
• Avoidinstallingtheunitwhereitmaybesubjecttohightemperatures,suchasfromdirectsunlightor
hotairfromtheheater,orwhereitmaybesubjecttodust,dirtorexcessivevibration.
• Useonlythesuppliedmountinghardwareforasafeandsecureinstallation.
• Besuretoremovethefrontpanelbeforeinstallingtheunit.
Mounting angle adjustment
Adjustthemountingangletolessthan20°.

Note: Keep the release key in the safe place as you may need it in future to remove the unit from the car.
Detaching and attaching the front panel
The front panel of this unit can be detached to prevent theft.
FOLDING DOWN AND DETACHING/ATTACHING THE FRONT PANEL
Before detaching the front panel, be sure to press the button (1) OFF rst.
Then press the button and detach the panel by pulling it towards you as illustrated.
Notes:
•
Do not press the front panel hard against the unit when attaching it. It can be easily attached by pressing
it lightly against the unit.
• Whenyoucarrythefrontpanelwithyou,putitinthesuppliedfrontpanelcase.
• Donotpresshardorgiveexcessivepressuretothedisplaywindowofthefrontpanelwhenattaching
it to the unit.
CLEANING THE CONNECTOR
The unit may not function properly if the connectors be-
tween the unit and the front panel are contaminated with
dirt.Inordertopreventthisfromhappening,detachthe
front panel by pressing the button and clean the con-
nectors from time to time.
Clean the connectors with a cotton swab and contact
cleaner as illustrated. Clean each pin carefully and make
sure not to damage the connecting points.

1. POWER ON/OFF
Bypressingthiskey,theunitisswitchedonandoff.Thisunitisturnedonbypressinganykey.

By turning the VOL (3) knob Right or Left, you can adjust VOL/BASS/TREB/BAL/FAD in the

4. PRESET STATIONS
Sixnumberedpresetbuttonsstoreandrecallstationsforeachband.
Storing a station:
1. Select a band (if needed)
2. Select a station
3. Hold a preset button longer than one second. Preset station number appears in the display
when station is saved.
Recall a station:
1. Select band (if needed)
2. Press a preset button for less than one second to select stored station.
5. STEREO/MONO BUTTON
Press ST button to switch between stereo and mono sound for FM radio reception. When reception
ofanFMstationisweak,listeningqualitycanbeimprovedbyswitchingtomonosound.

6. LOCAL/DISTANT BUTTON
PressLocal/Distant(LO/DX)buttonforlisteningtoweakstations.“LOCAL”indicatorwillappear
on the display. Press this button again (Distant mode) for normal operation.
7. EQUALIZER CONTROL
Press EQtoselectbetweenOff/Pop/Rock/Classic/Flatequalizermodes.
8. DISPLAY BUTTON (Set the Clock)
Selectsradiofrequencyorclockdisplay.
Tosettheclock:
1.Withclockdisplayselected,holddown(DISP)buttonuntilclockdisplaystartsashing.
2. Rotate

3. Press (DISP) button to start clock.
9. MODE / SUBWOOFER BUTTON
Press MODEtoselectbetween:AUX/TUNER/CD-MP3/USBorMMC/SDmodes.
SUBWOOFER: Press and hold the button to engage subwoofer output.
10. BAND SELECTOR / LOUDNESS BUTTON
Pushthisswitchtoselectthedesiredband,eitherAMorFM.
LOUDNESS: PressandholdthebuttontoselectLOUDNESSmode.
11. AUTOMATIC OR MANUAL TUNING (FREQ UP OR FREQ DOWN )
(A) RADIO MODE
Whenpressedforlessthan1second,thesekeysoperateasSEEKTuningmode.
Whenpressedlongerthan1second,theyoperateasMANUALtuningmode.
Ifthekeysarenotpressedfor3seconds,theywillreturntoAutomaticmode.
(B) CD/MP3/WMA PLAYER MODE
Whenpressedforlessthan1second,thesekeysoperateasTRACKUPorTRACKDOWNmode.
When pressed longer than 1
second
,theywilloperateasCUEorREVIEWmode.
12. AUTOMATICALLY STORE STATIONS
Selectsixstrongstationsandstorethemincurrentband.
1. Select a band (if needed)
2. Hold AS/PS button for more than three seconds. The new stations replace stations already
stored in that band.
Preset Scan
Scan stations stored in current band
1. Select a band (if needed)
2.
Hold AS/PS for more than one second but less than three seconds. Radio pauses for ve
seconds at each station. Press AS/PS again to stop scanning when desired station is reached.
13. ‘SCAN’ AUTOMATIC TUNING CONTROL
ThiskeyoperatesRADIOSCAN.Theoperationissimilartonormalsearchbutholds5seconds
oneverystationdetectedinRADIOSCANmode.
14. MUTE BUTTON
Press this button to mute the sound at once. Press again to return to previous volume level.
15. ACTIVE MATRIX DISPLAY
TheActiveMatrixDisplaywilldisplaythecurrentstateoftheunit.
16. OPEN PANEL RELEASE BUTTON
Press button and the front panel will open.

CD/MP3/WMA CONTROL
Inserting the CD
Carefully slide the CD or CD-R or CD-RW through the CD slot into the CD compartment. The CD
starts playing automatically.
TRACK/SEARCH BUTTON
FORWARD AND REVERSE TRACK SEARCH (11)
Pressandreleasetoadvancetonexttrackortoreturntothebeginningofthecurrenttrack(track
number will be displayed). Press and hold to fast forward or reverse . Play will begin at the
point when you release the button.
17. CD SLOT
18. CD EJECT BUTTON
Press the EJECT button to remove the CD. The receiver will automatically switch to radio
mode.
19. PAUSE BUTTON
Press to pause CD playback. Press again to resume playback.
20. REPEAT BUTTON ‘RPT’
Whenthisbuttonispressed,‘RPT’indicationisdisplayedandtheselectedtrackwillbecontinually
repeated until the Track Repeat mode is cancelled by pressing ‘RPT’ button again.
21. INTRO BUTTON (Preview all Tracks) ‘INT’
Whenthisbuttonispressed,‘INT’indicationisdisplayedandtherstseveralsecondsofeach
track are played. Press again to stop intro and listen to current track.
22. RANDOM BUTTON ‘RDM’
Whenthisbuttonispressed,‘RDM’indicationisdisplayedandeachtrackisplayedinrandom
orderinsteadofnormalprogression.TocancelRANDOMmode,press‘RDM’buttonagain.

Searching by Track:
• PressAS/PS. Digit starts blinking.
• Turn“VOL”knobtorightorleftuntilthedesiredtracknumbershowsthenpressVOL knob.
• Songnumberyouselectedwillstarttoplay.
Searching by Folder:
• PressAS/PS twice.
• Turn“VOL”knobtorightorlefttoselectfoldernamethenpressVOL knob.
• Turn“VOL”knobtorightorlefttoselectletoplaythenpressVOL knob to start playback.
25. USB PORT
Enhanced control of connected Portable Media such as Flash Drives and digital MP3 players by
usingfunctionkeysontheCDU650ortheremotecontrolunit.
CDU650featuresthelatestID3Tagsupport,whichallowsyoutoseethesong’snameandfolder
locationontheblackmatrixdisplay.
26. MULTI-MEDIA CARD (MMC) / SD CARD SLOT
Supports MP3/WMA ID3 format music only.
27. FRONT AUX IN
Convenientfront“AUXIN”inputjackallowseasyconnectionofPortablemediasuchasiPodand
other digital MP3 Players.
28. RESET
Reset button is located on the housing.
Theresetbuttonistobeactivatedforthefollowingreasons:
• Initialinstallationoftheunitwhenallwiringiscompleted.
• Allthefunctionbuttonsdonotoperate.
• Errorsymbolonthedisplay.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Check all wiring connections before referring to the list below. If problems persist after
consultingthelist,contactyournearestservicedealer.
SYMPTOM CAUSE SOLUTION
No power.
Disc cannot
be loaded or
ejected.
No sound.
Sound skips.
The operation
keys do not
work.
The radio does
not work. The
radio station
automatic
selection does
not work.
The car ignition switch is
not on.
The fuse is blown.
A CD is in the player.
Disc is inserted upside down.
CD is very dirty or defective.
Temperature inside the
car is too high.
Condensation is present
in the CD player.
Volume control is set to
the minimum level.
Wiring is not properly
connected.
The disc is extremely
dirty or defective.
The built-in microcomputer
is not operating properly.
The antenna cable is not
connected.
The signals are too weak.
The installation angle is
more than 20 degrees.
If the power supply is properly
connected to the car accessory
circuits, but the engine is not on,
switch the ignition key to "ACC".
Replace with a new fuse of equal
rating.
Remove the disc in the player,
then insert a new one.
Insert the CD with the label facing up.
Clean the disc or try to play a new one.
Allow the ambient temperature
to cool to a normal level.
Leave the player off for an hour
or so, then try again.
Adjust volume to a desired level.
Check wiring connections.
Make sure the head unit is installed
at an angle of less than 20 degrees
from horizontal.
Clean the CD or try to play a new
one.
Press the RESET button and try
again.
Insert the antenna cable firmly.
Select a station manually.
Front panel is not attached
or seated properly.
Remove and reinsert the front panel
according to the instructions in this
manual and try again.
