Amajor causeofsonar
problemsiselectrical noise.This usuallyappears
onthesonar's
displayas
randompatternsofdotsorlines.Insevere
cases,
it cancompletely coverthe screen with blackdots, orcaUse theunit
operate erratically, ornotatall.
Toeliminate orminimizetheeffectsofelectricalnoise,
firsttrytodetermine
thecause.Withtheboatatrestinthe
water,
thefirst
thingyoushoulddo
isturnallelectrical equipment ontheboatoff.Makecertain the
engine
is
off, also. Turn yourLCG-2400 on, then turnoffASP(Advanced Signal
Processing).Thereshouldbea steady
bottom
signal
onthe
display.Now
turnoneach
piece
ofelectrical equipmentontheboatandviewtheeffect
onthesonar's display.For
example,turnonthe bilgepump
andviewthe
sonar
display
fornoise. Ifnonoiseispresent,turnthe
pumpoff,
thenturn
ontheVHFradioandtransmit. Keepdoing thisuntilallelectrical
equipment
hasbeenturnedon,theireffectonthe
sonardisplay
noted,thenturnedoff.
Ifyou findnoiseinterferencefromanelectricalinstrument, trollingmotor,
pump,
or
radio,tryto
isolatethe problem.Youcan
usuallyreroutethesonar
unit'spowercable and transducer cableawayfromthewiring that is
causing
theinterference. VHFradioantennacables radiatenoisewhen
transmitting, sobecertaintokeep
the
sonar'swires
away
fromit.You
may
needtoroutethesonarunit's
powercable directly
tothebatterytoisolate
itfromother
wiring ontheboat.
Ifnonoise
displays
onthesonarunitfromelectricalequipment,then make
certaineverythingexceptthe sonarunitisturned
off,
thenstartthe
engine.
Increase theRPM withthe gearshift in neutral. Ifnoise
appears
onthO
display,the problemcouldbeoneofthree things;sparkplugs, alternator,
ortachometer wiring. Tryusing resistor spark plugs, alternatorfilters, or
routing the sonar unit'spowercableaway fromengine wiring. Again,
routing the powercable directly to the battery helps eliminate noise
problems.Makecertaintousethein-linefusesuppliedwiththeunitwhen
wiringthepowercabletothe battery.
When nonoise
appearsonthesonarunitafteralloftheabove
tests,
then
the noisesourceisprobably cavitation. Manynovices orpersonswith
limitedexperiencemakehasty sonarinstallationswhichfunction
perfectly
inshallow
water,
orwhentheboatisatrest.Innearly allcases,thecause
ofthemalfunction willbethelocationand/or
angleofthetransducer.The
faceofthetransducermustbeplacedin alocationthathasasmooth flow
ofwateratallboat
speeds. Readyour
transducer owner'smanual forthe
best
mounting position.

TheLCG-2400isthelatestmemberoftheLowrance
family
thatcombines
a
highperformancesonarwithawide,high
definition screen. Usingmenu
featuresand 'soft-key"operation,theLCG-2400 isalsoeasytouse.The
wide screen showstheunderwaterworldwithhigh resolutionanddetail.
Thedisplay andkeyboardarealso lightedfornightoperation. TheLCG-
2400 hasdigital boatspeed,surface watertemperature, and distance
travelled (log) screens.

POWER
CONNECTIONS
The LCG-2400
works from atwelve-volt batterysystem. Forthe best
results,attachthepower
cable
directly
tothe
battery. Youcanattachthe
powercableto an accessory orpowerbuss, however
youmayhave
problems
withelectrical interference.Therefore,it'ssaferto
goaheadand
attachthe powercable
directlytothebattery. Ifthecable is not long
enough,
splice
#18
gaugewire
ontoit.Thepowercablehastwo
wires, red
and black. Red isthe positive lead,black isnegative or ground. Make
certaintoattachthein-linefuse
holdertotheredleadasclosetothe
power
sourceas
possible. For example, if
youhavetoextendthepowercableto
the
battery
or
powerbuss,attach oneendofthefuseholder
directly
tothe
battery
orpower buss.Thiswillprotect
boththeunitandthe
power
cable

2. Electricalnoisefromtheboat'smotorcaninterferewiththesonar.This
causesthesonar toautomaticallyincrease itsDiscriminationornoise
rejection feature.Thiscancausetheunittoeliminateweakersignals
suchasfishorevenstructurefromthe
display.Tryusingresistorspark
plugsorrouting thesonarunit'spower andtransducer
cables away
fromotherelectricalwiringontheboat.
NofisharcheswhentheFishIDfeature isoff:
1. Makecertaintransducer ispointing straight down.This isthemost
common
problem ifa partialarch isdisplayed.
2. Thesensitivity may notbehighenough. Inorderfortheunittodisplay
afisharch, ithastobeabletoreceivethefish'sechofromthetimeit
enterstheconeuntilitleaves. Ifthe
sensitivity isnot highenough,the
unitshowsthefish onlywhen itisin thecenterofthecone.
3. UsetheZoomfeature. Itismuch easier to displayfisharcheswhen
zoomedinonasmallrange of
wáterthanalargeone.Forexample,you
willhavemuch betterluck
seeingfisharcheswitha30to60foot
range
thana0to60foot
range.
This
enlargesthetargets,
allowingthe d•'splay
toshowmuchmore detail.
4. Theboat mustbemoving ataslow
trollingspeed
toseefisharches.
Iftheboatis
motionless,fishstayinthe cone, showing onthescreen
as straight horizontal lines.

TROUBLESHOOTING
If
yourunit is not
working, orifyou needtechnical help, please use
the
followingtroubleshooting section before contactingthe
factory
customer
servicedepartment. Itmay
save
youthe
troubleofreturningyour unit.
Unit won'tturnon:
1. Checkthe
power
cable's connectionattheunit.Alsocheckthe
wiring.
2. Makecertainthe
powercableiswired
properly.Theredwireconnects
tothepositive battery
terminal, blacktonegative orground.
3. Checkthefuse.
4. Measurethe
batteryvoltageattheunit's powerconnector. Itshouldbe
atleast11 volts.Ifitisn't,the
wiring
totheunitisdefective, thebattery
terminalsor
wiringontheterminals arecorroded,orthe battery
needs
charging.
Unit freezes,locks
up,oroperateserratically:
1. Electricalnoisefromtheboat's
motor,trolling
motor,oranaccessory
may be interfering with thesonar unit. Rerouting the power and
transducer cables away fromotherelectricalwiringontheboatmay
help.Routethesonarunit's powercable directly
tothe
battery
instead
ofthrough afuseblockorignition
switch
2. Inspectthetransducer cableforbreaks, cuts,orpinchedwires.
3. Checkboththetransducer and power connectors. Makecertainboth
aresecurelyplugged in totheunit.
Weakbottom
echo,digitalreadingserratic, ornofishsignals:
1. Makecertaintransduceris
pointingstraightdown.Cleanthefaceofthe
transducer.Oil,dirt,
andfuelcancauseafilmtoform
onthetransducer,
reducingitseffectiveness.Ifthetransducer ismounted insidethe
hull,
besure itisshooting through onlyone layer offiberglass andthatitis
securelybondedtothehull.DoNOTuseRTVsiliconerubberadhesive

The LCG-2400 accepts up to three temperature sensors which can
monitor surface water, live
well,air,and
virtuallyanyother temperature.
You do need to becareful whenpurchasing thetemperature sensors,
however. Each
temperature sensorhasitsown "address".Thesensors
arelabeled"Water", "T-2"
(orTemp-2),
and "T-3"(orTemp-3). If
youwant
two(ormore)temperature readings,you'llneedtousethe
propersensors.
For

Simulator
TheLCG-2400hasasimulator builtinthatlets
youuseitasifyouare on
thewater.Allfeaturesand functions oftheunitare usable.Amessage
appearsoccasionally toremindyouthatthesimulator ison.
Tousethesimulator, press the MENU key, then
press
theupordown
arrow keysuntilthe
"System Setup" menuappears.Whenitdoes, press
the right arrow key. Nowpress theup or down arrow keys until the
"Simulator" labelis highlighted. Finally,press the rightarrowkey. The
LCG-2400 returns to asonar screen
acrossthescreen. with simulated edhoes scrolling

The LCG-2400 "remembers" all set-
tingssuchas unitsofmeasure, auto/
manual,sensitivity,evenwhen
power
isremovedfromtheunit.Toreturnthe
LCG-2400tothefactorysettings, high-
light
the"Preset
Options" labelonthe
"System Setup" menu,then press
the
right arrow key. The LCG-2400 re-
turnsto thefullchartscreen withall
settings
returned totheirfactory val-
ues.
KeelOffset
TheLCG-2400measureswaterdepth
from thefaceofthetransducer. Since
thetransducer isbelowthesurfaceof
the
water,thisdistanceisnottheexact
waterdepth.Ifthetransducer isone
footbelowthe
surface, andtheLCG-
2400 reports thewaterdepth as 30
feet,
thenthe
depthisactually31feet.
Youcancalibrate thedepth reading
usingthe keel offset feature. First,
highlightthe
"KeelOffset"labelonthe
"SystemSetup"menu,then press
the
