ASP(AdvancedSignal Processing)
ASPisaprogramembedded intheX-25's
computerthatisspecifically designed to
eliminatenoise. It
continually monitors
the
signals fromthereceiver, determines
which echoesarenoise andrejects them.
Thisallowstruetargetechoestodisplay
onthescreen withaminimum ofclutter.
Thisfeature isespeciallyusefulsinceit
typically lets youoperate theboatatall
speedswithout
adjustingthe
sensitivity or
othercontrols. When theX-25isfirst
turnedon,ASPisenabled. ToturnASP
off,press
themenu keyrepeatedly until theASPmenuappears. Now
presstheuparrowtoturnitonorthedownarrowtoturnitoff. The
menuwillclearautomatically afterafewsecondsoryoucanpressthe
ON/CLEAR keytoclearthescreen.
Thesensitivity menu letsyoucontrol
theunit's
ability
topickup
ech-
oes. Alow
sensitivity levelexcludes muchofthebottom
information,
fishsignals, and otherdetail. Nigh sensitivity settings
lets yousee
features, butitcanalsoclutterthescreen
withnoiseandotherun-
wanted
signals. Typically, thebestsensitivity levelshowsagood,
solidbottom
signal withgrayline.
TheX-25adjusts the
sensitivity level tokeepasolidbottom
signal on
the
screen. Itaddsalittleextra whenit'sin
theautomatic mode. This
givesitthe
capability
toshow fishand otherdetail. However,
situ-
ationsoccur
whereitbecomes necessarytoincrease ordecreasethe
sensitivity level. Typically, thisoccurs when
you
wishtosee more
detail,
soyou needtoincreasethesensitivity. Theprocedure
toadjust
itisthesame
whethertheunitisin theautomatic ormanual mode.
Tochange
thesensitivity level, firstpress
themenukeyuntil the
sensitivity menu
appears. Iftheunitisinautomatic, the
menu shows "AUTOSENS." Otherwise,
themenushows"MANSENS." Now
press
theuparrow keytoincrease the
sensitivity,thedownarrow todecreaseit.
Averticalbargraphinthemenu box
showsthesensitivity level. Echoes
scrolling ontothescreen wilt also showthe
effects
ofthesensitivity change. Ifyou
reachthemaximum orminimum sensitivity
level,atonesounds
alerting youtothe
limits.
Afteryou'veadjusted theunittothedesired sensitivity level, press
the
ON/CLEARkey
toclearthe
display. If
youwaitafewseconds, itwill
automatically clear.
GRAYLINE
GRAYLINE letsyoudistinguish between strong
andweakechoes. It
"paints"gray
on
targets
thatarestronger
thana
presetlevel. This
showsthedifference between ahardorsoftbottom, large
fishversus
smaller
ones,
orrocksandbrush onthebottom. Forexample, a
soft,
muddy, orweedy bottomreturns aweaker
signalwhichshowsa
