WARNINGS
Never use the rebreather without receiving specific equipment training.
This manual does not replace any training recognised by M3S.
Your knowledge and practical exercices are the best prerequisites to avoidaccidents.
Correct maintenance is necessary for the proper operation of the rebreather
Pre-dive tests are required before each dive in order to check the proper function-
ing of the operation.
Gas to be used should be prepared in advance and carefully checked before each
dive.
It is necessary to use oxyclean grease for the maintenance of the rebreather.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
2.1 General description
2.1.1 TRITON Overview
The TRITON is a front mechanical closed circuit rebreather (mCCR). It can be used as a
pure oxygen rebreather or as a mCCR.

The TRITON is made of:
1. a Kevlar bag
2. Breathing hoses with DSV
3. a scrubber
4. Gas Line with an ajustable ADV (Automatique Diluent Valve)
5. an inhale counter lung
6. an exhale counter lung
7. ppO2Display (cells housing-7, display-9, HUD-10)

2.1.2 Technical datas

2.1.3 The elements
The kevlar bag
All the components of the TRITON are contained inside a Kevlar bag of 35x30x16 cm. One
handle is fixed on rear of the bag in order to facilitate the carriage. Snap hooks are fixed on
the four corners of the bag in order to ensure a good fixing against the chest of the diver. A
stainless steel support is fixed at the bottom of the kevlar bag to carry on the oxygen tank.
During transport (travel), the breathing hoses, the gaz line and the electronic can be stored
into the kelvar bag with the lungs and the scrubber in order to be protected.
The oxygen tank
The oxygen tank must be used only for oxygen and must follow the certification standards.
It needs to be pressure tested every two years.
The regulator DS4
The regulator DS4 is a fixed intermediate pressure regulator. The standard setting is 11.5b.
(see section 2.1.3 CMF)
The control and the adjustment of the regulator must be done during the training.
Servicing has to be done following the constructor’s instruction manual.

The M3S valve
M3S valve is Constant Mass Flow valve. The functioning of the valve is shown on Fig. 2.2.

When the diver does not inject, valve is closed as Fig. 2.2a) continuous injection of oxygen
is flown by the bypass. This injection is 0.7 L/min.
If the diver press the push button, there is a manual opening of the CMF that causes an
injection of a bigger flow of oxygen (see Fig. 2.2b)
The counterlungs
Counterlungs are asymmetrical : small one for exhale lung, and big one for the inhale lung.
The total volume of the loop is about 10L. The total loop includes the two counterlungs and
the breathing hose. The counterlungs are made in PU.

Scrubber description
The standard configuration of the TRITON is based on an axial soda lime canister that is
fixed horizontally inside the kevlar bag. The figure 2.4 shows the filtration process inside the
TRITON’s canister. The dirty gas (containing CO2) are shown in darkblue and the filtered
gas are shown in lightblue.

Breathing hose
The breathing hose which is in silicone, contain a DSV. Maintenance of the DSV is specified
at the section 4.3.4.
Display
TRITON is containing a cell housing with 3 M3S cells. The cells T22D have to be replaced
as shown in the section 4.3.1.
The TRITON is delivered with a PpO2display, a HUD and an alarm activated when the PpO2
is out of the defined range. To set the parameters of the display, please see section 3.3.4
2.2 Use Limits and Performances
Performances and use limits of the TRITON depend on the configuration of the rebreather.
the TRITON manufacturer wants to remind that TRITON’s user is not supposed to dive if out
of his prerogatives and if not in good conditions (healthy, good physic condition, etc...)

General limits
The TRITON is a mCCR rebreather, it is not designed for auto-working. The rebreather
needs the human operation to work properly. The diver must regularly check PpO2to be in
a right range. The acceptable values for the PpO2range are:

It is important for the diver to remember to limit speed of the descent and speed of ascent in
order to:
Let the rebreather fill in of gas during the descent
To be able to manage de Pp02during the descent and more specifically during the ascent!
Depth’s Limits
Table 2.2 is showing the possible depth according to the configuration of the TRITON.

Time limits
The dive time can be limited by two factors:
1. Quantity of gas
2. Scrubber duration
Quantity of gas:
For a closed circuit dive, the gas quantity is rarely a limitation. But it is still important to
check the pressure of the oxygen and diluent tank. However, it’s possible to take an off
board source of gas.
Scrubber duration:
The scrubber duration in the conditions of the EC standard1is for 2.2 kg of SOFNOLIME.

This values are theoretical values and depends strongly of the dive (water temperature,
physiology of the diver, physical activitiy, etc...) therefore, it is dangerous to exceed the du-
ration limit given by the manufacturer.
The filtration of the CO2is an exothermic process. Thereby, it is influenced by the tempera-
ture of the water (or the ambient temperature).
Furthermore, the soda never stops to work. Thereby, the surface time between dives are not
negligible. For this reason, it is important the soda to be protected from changing environ-
ment.
The use of the soda requires a training such as prescribed by the manufacturer.
Temperature limitations
TRITON is designed for working in temperature range from 4˚C to 34˚C.
