ThumpBST Speaker Setup Guide

In this document, we will walk through some basic steps of setting up two Thump5BST loudspeakers with one Thump8S, and
a ProFX8v2 mixer. This document will also go over connecting two input sources including a microphone and an iPad.
For this set-up you will need the following cables:
4x XLR Male to XLR Female cables: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/XLR30
x /8” TRS to TS “Y” cable: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/CMP53
4x IEC Power Cord (which should have been included when you bought your equipment):

Set-Up
The first thing to do is to get your two Thump15BST loudspeakers and Thump18S in position for your gig, preferably close to
a reliable power source. There are a couple of ways you can set-up your Thump15BST loudspeakers. One way is to use your
Thump15BST loudspeakers with speaker tripod stands. In this example, we are only using one Thump18S subwoofer so we will
be using two speaker stands to mount our Thump15BST loudspeakers.

If you are using these loudspeakers with the Thump8S you can instead replace the speaker stands with the SPM200 pole to
mount the two Thump5BST loudspeakers above the Thump8S subwoofers.
Connections
Next, plug the ProFX mixer, two Thump5BST loudspeakers and the Thump8S to your closest AC outlets using the four IEC
power cords. Keep the mixer and speakers powered o for now.
Now, we want to connect the outputs of the ProFX8v2 mixer to the speakers. For this, you will need the four XLR cables.

Before getting too far ahead of ourselves, you will want to look at the ThumpBST Owner’s Manual. It will go over using the
onboard mixer, which you use to set the input and EQ levels on these loudspeakers. The ThumpBST Owner’s Manual you can
get here: http://mackie.com/products/thump

) Using two of the XLR cables patch from the XLR main outputs left and right on the back of the ProFX8v2 to one
of the Thump5BST’s CH and CH2 inputs (this will be our “main” Thump Boosted). Left main from the ProFX will patch
into input CH on the Thump5BST and Right main from the ProFX to input CH2 on the same Thump5BST.

2) Using one more XLR cable, we are going to patch from the “Mix Out” connector on your second Thump5BST into
the Thump8S’ input A.

Now we will go ahead and connect the input sources, the microphone and iPad. For this, we will need one XLR cable and the
/8” TRS to TS “Y”-cable.
) Connect the microphone to the mic input on channel  of the ProFX mixer using the XLR cable.
2) We will connect the iPad to stereo channel 7-8 using the “Y”-cable.

Great! Now everything is connected. Before you go ahead and power everything up, set the Thump8S level knob at the center
position (2 o’clock). We will need to power the Thump5BST speakers on before we can set the levels on them, but we do not
want to do that quite yet. Note: you may notice that we have not connected the two Thump15BST loudspeakers together yet.
See below for more details.
Next, zero out the ProFX8v2.
) Turn down all the knobs except the channel EQ and
pan knobs, and set all the faders fully down.
2) Set all channel EQ knobs, pan knobs, and the graphic
EQ sliders at their center detent.
3) Set all buttons to the “out” position.
Now go ahead and power your system up in the
following order:
) ProFX8v2
2) Thump8S
3) Thump5BST’s
Note: power down system in the reverse order; all
Thump5BST’s first, then the Thump8S and then the
mixer.

After you have everything powered on, you are ready to make some noise! But before doing so, check
out this link on properly gain staging your mixer, so you will not clip or overload your mixer or speakers:

For setting levels on your speakers, see our document here: https://supportloudtech.netx.net/loud-public/#/asset/8234
Connecting your Thump15BST Loudspeakers Together
Page 6
When using two Thump Boosted speakers together there are two ways you can connect them. You can either use an XLR cable
to connect the two speakers physically or use the wireless function to link both units together. For more information on how to
link two Thump Boosted speakers together via Bluetooth, see our document here:
For physically connecting the two Thump Boosted speakers you simply will take the “Mix Out” connector from your main unit
over to the CH  input on the second speaker using an XLR cable.
If connecting your Thump5BST loudspeakers with an XLR cable, you will want to make sure to make your connection BEFORE
powering your speakers on.
