1THE GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE PRODUCTS
1.1 Overview
Ship(tanker) must be equipped with interface detector that approved by the government.
Compared to fixed type tank level gauging system, portable type tank level gauging System has many
advantages, it is very useful to work of tank level gauging on the deck.
In case the Oil/Water Interface Detector is required for the chemical carrier installed in slop tank and is also
loading oil products, The IMO MARPOL 1973/78 requirement is that slop tank must be provided to retain
the slop tank generated by tank washing, Oil residues and dirty ballast residues in order to preserve the
sea from pollution by oil.
Furthermore, IMO MARPOL Regulation 15,(3)(b) : Effective Oil/Water Interface Detectors approved by the
administration shall be provided for a rapid and accurate determination of Oil/Water Interface in slop tank
and shall be available for use in other tanks where the separation of oil and water is effective and from
which it is intended to discharge effluent direct to the sea.
UTL-200 is satisfied the requirements of MARPOL 1973/78, Regulation 15(3)(b) and Resolution MEPC.5(XIII)
Annex 4.
In addition, it has "CLOSED(Gas Tight)" structure and it is usable in hazardous areas of the vessel because it
received the certificate of intrinsic safety type.
The nameplate is marked in details about model name, product management no., range, explosion-proof
level and Impedance values related to explosion-proof performance.
If you contact to us related to the product's performance or spare, please refer to above contents.

1.2 Features
UTL-200 as of Oil/Water interface detector of GAS-TIGHT has various characteristics. It can be summarized
briefly as follows.
1) Immediately Measurement
The tape measure is wound up the inside of UTL-200 body, and can be identified immediately using a
tape measure when detected the physical properties.
2) Ultrasonic Detection
UTL-200 is a product with high responsiveness in any liquid by applying an ultrasonic sensor.
3) Intrinsic Safety Type
Received the certificates of intrinsic safe explosion-proof structure, UTL-200 has been designed to be
used in hazardous areas.
4) Portable Product Type
①Can be used in individual tanks is portable product.
②Cost is a cheaper than a fixed product.
③Vessels in the room can easily enforce the product checking.
④In case of need for check failures as portable type, it can be sent to manufacturer by loading and
unloading. Therefore the boarding expense of service engineers can be reduced.
5) Detection Performance of Oil/water Interface
UTL-200 is product received approval by Korean Government satisfying the requirements of Oil/Water
Interface Detectors related to MARPOL 1973/78 regulation 15.(3)(b) and IMO MEPC.5(XIII) Annex 4.

1.3 General Description
UTL-200 is through the serial numbers are managed separately. If you have inquiry of product or
manufacturer, the serial no. written on the nameplate is very useful.
UTL-200 using the Ultrasonic sensor and conductivity sensor probe is measuring the oil/water interface.
Depending on the physical properties, 3 types of beep is occurring as below.
Using the key switch operation function, UTL-200 can be occurring the LED flashing equal cycle like the
beep operation as above. If around the dark or noisy environment, this function can be useful.
In addition, it provide the function that can be check the physical property and the current measured
temperature value with illuminating the LCD Backlight using the key switch operation.
UTL-200 is used the 9V battery(Duracell/MN1604). Designed to the low power consumption, it can be used
for a long time. It can be checked the remaining of the battery on Power ON state.
If coming to replacement time, it will notify user by flicker of LCD screen.
When the battery voltage is dropped below the reference voltage, "BATTERY CHANGE" is displayed on LCD
screen and operate beep as follows.
If run out of battery voltage levels, may properly not operate the temperature measurements.
Therefore, when it occurs the LCD Flicker and "BATTERY CHANGE" message, it must be moved to the
secure area to use the operation of stable product and replace the battery from state Power OFF in the
manner of the user manual.
CAUTION!
Before changing battery, Be sure to move safety area and turn off the power.

3MEASURING PRINCIPLE
3.1 Detection of ULTRA Sensing Probe
3.1.1 General
ULTRA sensing probe is combined with two stainless steel tube and the high-polymer plastic head, it is
consist of the ultrasonic sensor, temperature sensor and the conductive electrode and can be measured the
Ullage, boundary and temperature.
3.1.2 Ullage Detection
In accordance with the acoustic impedance of ultrasonic sensor, It detects the non-conductive liquid(Oil)
between the transmitter and the receiver and transmits the signal by the display unit. The received signal at
this point is displaying the physical property and temperature at LCD screen and 'INTERMITTENT BEEP'
occurs.

3.1.3 Interface Detection
When Interface bar and temperature bar to be touched as shown in figure 3.2, the electrical signal flowing
through two electrodes is sent to the display unit by conductive of water.
And 'CONTINUOUS BEEP' occurs.
Figure 3.2
3.1.4 Temperature Measurement
It is excellent in the signal linearity by outputting the proportional signal to absolute temperature. The
measured temperature is displayed by transferring to the display unit.
If need the temperature calibration, please refer to 4.3.1 Temperature correction setting.
