IMPORTANT:
This is a 2 stroke engine that requires approved MASPORT 2 stroke oil
mixed with fresh premium petrol at the ratio of 30:1.
Masport Two Stroke Engine
Fuel Ratio 30:1 = 30ml of Oil for 1 Litre of Fuel
The ‘AIR FILTER’ has been tted dry, add 5ml of clean engine
oil to the lter before starting.
Refer to the Maintenance section of this manual.
Ensure petrol and oil are well mixed before lling the fuel tank.
Do not mix directly in fuel tank.
Incorrect Fuel mix can damage the engine -
Too much oil will cause excessive smoking.
Too little will cause the moving parts to wear rapidly
& cause the engine to seize and may be irreparable.
Modern fuels are unleaded & will not harm the engine.
Use low octane Fuel. Petrol must be stored in a fuel-safe container.
Modern fuels may fail if stored for longer than 4 to 6 months.

PRECAUTIONS:
Always operate petrol powered engines outside in a well ventilated area.
Exhaust fumes contain carbon monoxide an odourless and deadly gas,
amongst other toxic chemicals. Small children and pregnant women are at
great risk from these gases.
Exhaust fumes are Dangerous to ALL Humans and other creatures.
Do NOT touch the mufer or engine body while operating or until
the stopped motor has cooled, the engine operates at temperatures
that can cause serious burns.
Do NOT touch the ignition system or Spark Plug while the machine
is operating. The ignition system generates a high voltage charge
that can cause a painful shock.
Do NOT smoke or permit naked fames anywhere near the engine, or
near fuel containers. Resulting explosion can cause Death.
NEVER mix or store petrol/oil mixture indoors or in enclosed, poorly
ventilated areas, where fuel fumes may reach an open ame, spark
or pilot light as on a furnace, water heater, clothes dryer or other
gas appliance.

GOLDEN RULES FOR ‘TROUBLE FREE’ OPERATION
START UP
1. Turn on the fuel tap and allow the carburettor to ll.
2. Close the choke on the carburettor completely (for cold starts) by moving
the throttle control fully forward (refer mower owner manual).
3. Pull the starter cord until the engine starts, then open the choke and
allow the engine to warm up at low revs for 3-5 minutes.
4. When the engine is heated enough, adjust the throttle handle to the
required speed.
NOTE: High revs at start up will damage the engine as lubrication is less
effective in a cold engine.
This motor will run at moderate to full speed without problems, providing the
factory approved settings have not been altered.
NEVER run engine indoors or in enclosed, poorly ventilated areas.
Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide, an odorless and deadly
gas.
Keep hands, feet, hair and loose clothing away from any moving
parts on the engine.
WARNING - Temperature of mufer and nearby areas may exceed
65ºC avoid these areas.

STOPPING
1. Reduce the engine speed to the lowest setting for 3-5 minutes.
2. Stop the engine with either the throttle control or by turning off the fuel.
Note: do not wash the engine down while it is still hot, this can cause
damage to the block and seals.

REFUELLING
Always stop the engine before refuelling, and allow the engine to cool.
Petrol fumes are highly inammable so remove the fuel cap carefully to
release pressure gently, ensure the engine is re-fuelled from a petroleum-
safe container and that refuelling takes place outdoors in a well ventilated
area to avoid fumes build-up.
DO NOT start or run the engine if the fuel tank has been over-lled or
spillage has occurred.
Ensure excess fuel is completely removed, areas cleaned and washed
before attempting to start or run the engine.
NEVER ll the tank indoors, NEVER ll fuel tank when engine is
running or hot.
DO NOT smoke when lling fuel tank.
NEVER ll fuel tank completely. Fill tank to 1/2” below bottom of ller
neck to provide space for fuel expansion.
Wipe any fuel spillage from engine and equipment before starting
the engine.
REMEMBER: INCORRECT FUEL RATIO = ENGINE FAILURE

MAINTENANCE
Check at each operation;
• Check all screws and nuts are tight
• Check for fuel leaks.
• All fuel leaks must be repaired immediately
DO NOT use the engine.
Check after running 20 hours;
• Clean the air lter – rinse in petrol, wring dry and add 5ml of clean
engine oil to the lter, squeeze lter to spread oil before re-tting
(ensure petrol has evaporated before re-tting)
• Clean the fuel strainer
Check after running 50 hours;
(will likely require Mechanic to undertake)
• Check the cylinder head nuts for tightness. Tighten to 8-10N.m.
• Clean the accumulated carbon off both the head and exhaust port
(see below).
• Clean the spark plug, and adjust the clearance to 0.6mm.
• Clean the mufer of excess carbon

Never store engine with fuel in tank indoors or in enclosed, poorly
ventilated areas, where fuel ames may reach an open ame, spark
or pilot light as on a furnace, water heater, clothes dryer or other gas
appliances.
DO NOT MAKE ANY UNNECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS. FACTORY SETTINGS
ARE SATISFACTORY FOR MOST CONDITIONS.
CARBURETOR
If you think your carburetor needs adjusting, see your nearest
AUTHORISED MASPORT SERVICE OUTLET. Engine performance
should not be affected at altitudes up to 7,000 feet. For operation at
higher elevations, contact your AUTHORISED MASPORT SERVICE OUTLET.
ENGINE SPEED:
NEVER TAMPER WITH ENGINE GOVERNOR WHICH IS FACTORY SET FOR
PROPER ENGINE SPEED. OVERSPEEDING ENGINE ABOVE FACTORY HIGH
SPEED SETTING CAN BE DANGEROUS. CHANGING OF ENGINE GOVERNED
SPEED WILL VOID ENGINE WARRANTY.
STORAGE
If the engine is to be stored for any extended period (over 30 days);
• Remove all fuel from the tank
• Close the choke fully on the carburettor
• Remove the spark plug and insert 10ml of engine oil through the
spark plug hole.
• Turn the engine over 3-4 times with the starter cord, leaving the
piston at the top of the stroke, reinsert the spark plug.
(Some smoking will occur on rst start-up after storage but this should not
effect engine components & should cease after a short period)
Store engine in a dry, well ventilated area.

The engine will not shut down:
Turn off the fuel – and let the engine stop by running out of fuel.
The ignition switch is not earthed:
Test the circuit or take to your service agent
The engine stops suddenly:
Check to see if the fuel tank is empty.
Check the fuel is owing, if not, clean the fuel lter.
Ensure the breather hole in the fuel cap is not clogged.
Check that water, dirt or gum hasn’t contaminated the fuel.
(In certain conditions condensation can occur inside the fuel tank causing droplets of
water that can accumulate at the bottom of the Fuel Tank.)
Check the spark plug lead is undamaged and in place on the plug.
Check the spark plug isn’t oiled or carboned up, check spark by removing
the plug from the engine, reattach the lead and, while resting the spark
plug thread against the engine body, turn over the engine by pulling on
the starter cord. If a spark isn’t seen, try a new plug. If this fails see your
service agent.
(NOTE: DO NOT hold the plug in the hand as the high voltage will cause a painful electrical shock.)
The engine is hard to start:
Weak spark, faulty Spark plug or Spark plug lead Choke has not been set
correctly – must be closed on initial start-up.
Using old fuel that has been stored too long, or poor quality fuel.
Blade impact on a solid object may have bent the crank shaft or snapped
the Woodruff Key.
TROUBLESHOOTING

WARRANTY
PLEASE READ THE WARRANTY BEFORE USING THIS PRODUCT.
THE WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER DAMAGE DUE TO MISUSE OR
FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS.
Masport warrants to the purchaser, subject to the following conditions
and limitations, that the Masport Two Stroke Engine is free form defects in
material or workmanship. This warranty is effective for one year from the
date of original purchase, unless the Masport Two Stroke Engine is used for
business, commercial, institutional, industrial, rental or income-producing
purposes, in which case this warranty shall be effective for three months
from the date of original purchase.
All claims must be recieved by Masport in writing during the term of this war-
ranty. Masport’s obligation under this warranty is the repair or replacement,
at it’s option, by an approved Masport Specialist retailer of any part found to
be defective in material or workmanship. Labour costs involved in the repair
or replacement are also covered. The decision to repair or replace defective
components will be made by Masport or it’s agent and actioned by an ap-
proved Masport Specialist retailer.
Except as expressly provided in the Consumers Gaurantees Act 1993,
Australian Trade Practices Act 1974, or protection by the laws of place, state
or country of purchase, this warranty is personal to the purchaser.
THIS WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER:
1. Any consequential, indirect or special damage of any nature whatever nor
for any loss of prots, economic loss or any similiar form of damage. Unless
requires under the Consumers Guarantee Act 1993.
2. Defects, malfunctions or failures caused by normal wear and tear,
misuse, neglect or accidental damage or failure to follow the fuel selection
instructions, or resulting from repairs or modication to the equipment
carried out by unathorised persons. Masport has no responsibility for any
representations concerning the Lawnmower not authorised by it bearing the
Masport name.

3. Defects, malfunctions or failures caused by an act or omission of other
persons after the product has left Masport’s control.
4. The costs of collection and delivery of the equipment. Except as required
under the Consumer Gaurantees Act 1993.
CONSUMER GUARANTEE NOTE:
Except as set out in this Warranty, Masport shall have no other liability to any
part with respect to the Masport Two Stroke Engine (for negligence or other-
wise), and all conditions and warranties implied by law, custom or otherwise
are excluded, except, in each case, as required by law. Any rights which a
purchaser has under the New Zealand Consumer Gaurantees Act 1993 or the
Australian Practices Act 1974 apply in addition to the rights the purchaser
had under this warranty, and nothing in this warranty is intended to limit or
affect the purchasers rights and remedies under these Acts or any consumer
legislation of the place, state or country of purchase. Masport only warrants
that facilities for the repair of the product, and spare parts for the product will
be available, for the period of the warranty, and no longer.
HOW TO OBTAIN WARRANTY SERVICE:
1. Return the product to the place of purchase or to any Masport Specialist
retailer.
2. Provide proof of the date of purchase. If a warranty claim arises reason-
able proof of purchase date is required. Keep your receipt.
3. Warranty repair will be completed according to normal work practices of
the Servicing Agent.
4. Make the faulty parts available for inspection by Masport and/or it’s agents
so that the validity of the claim is established by them.
