If DSS45 is connected close to the system then connection boxes
and RJ11 to RJ11 cable are not required.
Please follow the following steps and make connections as shown
in the figure: (When DSS45 is installed closed to the system)
•Switch OFF the system. Wait for 10 seconds to allow the power
supply to discharge.
•Attach COM port end of the Splitter Cable to the system.
Fix the mounting screws to get proper connections.
•Lay DB-9 to RJ-11 cable from the system to DSS45 (reception
area). DB-9 connector end of the cable should be connected to
the splitter cable.
•Please note that if DSS45 is used with Focus or Empire
then it should be connected to the thick cable of the splitter
cable and if DSS45 is used with Team then it should be
connected to the thin cable. The other end of the cable having
RJ11 connector is to be connected to DSS45.
• MDF wires (two hanging wires) coming out from DB-9 connector

are speech wires and should be connected to any of the free
extension port. Please do not select power down extension else
in event of power failure DSS45 will not work.
• Take a small piece of telephone cable to connect the MDF with
the hanging wires coming out from the cable. Polarity is not
important here. Make proper joints with twisting and soldering.
To prevent shorts and sparks, secure the joints with good quality
insulation tape.
• Go to the reception area. Decide on a convenient place on the
desk for the DSS45. Keep DSS45 facing the operator.
• Connect the handset to DSS45.
If DSS45 is to be installed away from the system then all the
accessories are required. Please follow the following steps and
make connections as shown in the figure:
• Switch OFF the system. Wait for 10 seconds to allow the power
supply to discharge.
• Attach COM port end of the Splitter Cable to the system. Fix
the mounting screws to get proper connections.

• Decide a place where the connection box is to placed.
• Lay DB-9 to RJ-11 cable from the system to connection box.
Connect the DB-9 connector end of the cable to the splitter
cable.
• Please note that if DSS45 is used with Focus or Empire then it
should be connected to the thick cable of the splitter cable and if
DSS45 is used with Vision or Team then it should be connected
to the thin cable. Connect the RJ11 end of the cable to the RJ11
socket of the connection box.
• Go to the reception area where DSS45 is to be placed. Decide a
place where the second connection box is to be placed. Connect
one end of the RJ11 to RJ11 connection cable to DSS45 and
other end to the second connection box.
• Since DSS45 is to be installed away from the system, you need
extra cable. You can use field wiring for this purpose. You need
three pair of wires. Please use three separate pair of wires to
avoid noise. Length of this field wiring should be less than 50
meters.
• Now connect one end of these pairs to connection box placed at
the system end and other end of these pairs to the other
connection box placed at DSS45 end. To make the connections,
open the connection box. Screw terminals are provided inside
the box. Terminate these pairs as described below to connection
boxes.
• Pair no. 1 to red and green of both the boxes.
• Pair no. 2 to black and yellow of both the boxes.
• Pair no. 3 to blue and white of both the boxes.
• MDF wires (two hanging wires) coming out from DB-9 connector
are speech wires and should be connected to any of the free
extension port. Please do not select power down extension else
in event of power failure DSS45 will not work.

Direct Station Selection:
DSS45 is a Direct Station Selection operator console. Accessing a
trunk or an extension is allowed with a direct key. There is no need
to dial long extension line numbers. The DSS45 supports 12
Extension DSS keys and 8 Trunk DSS keys. In case the main
system is configured for more than 12 extension lines/8 trunks,
‘page’ key can be used to access higher group of extensions/
trunks. Extension lines and Trunks are divided logically in two
pages. In default condition extension lines 201 to 212 and trunk 1 to
8 can be access in page1 whereas, extension lines 301 to 312 and
trunk 9 to 16 can be access in page2.
PAGE light status Extensions Trunks
Page #1 Off 201-212/21-32 T1-T8
Page #2 On 301-312/33-36 T9-T16
‘page’ is a lighted key. The status of this key informs the user about
currently active page.
Using ‘page’ key, the user can toggle between page one and page
two. When the user is in page one, the LED housed in ‘page’ key is
OFF. On pressing this key, the user enters page two, LED housed
in this key gets turned ON and all the extension lines and trunks
available in page two can be accessed.
The Programmable Keys
• As explained, DSS45 houses in all 45 keys. These keys are
functionally divided into four groups viz. Extension DSS keys,
Trunk DSS keys, Dialing keys and Special function keys.
Extension DSS keys:
• 12 keys are used for as many extension lines. These extension
lines can be accessed directly using these keys. These keys
also house a LED. LED gives the status of the extension line
at any point of time. If the number of extension lines exceeds
12, then PAGE key can be used to access higher group of
extension lines.

Matrix
DSS45 User’s Guide 19
Trunk DSS Keys:
• 8 keys are used for as many trunks. These trunks can be
accessed directly using these keys. These keys also house a
LED. LED gives the status of the trunk at any point of time. If
the number of trunks exceeds 8, then PAGE key can be used
to access higher group of trunks.
Dialing Keys:
• This set of keys is same as a normal dial pad used in any push
button type of telephone instrument. Twelve keys viz. 1-9, 0, *, #
are used. These keys can be used for dialing extension line,
any telephone number on the trunk and also during
programming.
Special Function Keys:
• The DSS45 possess 12 function specific keys viz. ‘func’, ‘vol’,
‘spk’, ‘hold’, ‘trf/fl’, ‘spd’, ‘redial’, ‘ans’, ‘page’, ‘page’, ‘ack’,
‘conf’. ‘vol’ key is physically one key but does two functions, to
increase and decrease the volume.
'func'
This key helps the user to change the prog. and other settings
‘func’ key works as a toggle switch. If you activate FUNCTION
mode by pressing ‘func’ key, it remains in the same mode till the
‘func’ key is pressed again.
'vol' This key is used to increase and decrease volume of ring and
speech
'spk' This key is used to activate the speaker phone
'hold' This key is used to put the caller on hold
'trf/fl' This key is used to transfer the call to destination station
'spd' This key is used for directory dialing by name
'redial' This key can be used to redial the last external number
'ans' This key used to answer any incoming calls
'page' This key used for toggle between page 1 and page 2
'ack' This key used to switch OFF the ring
'conf' This key used to make conference between three parties

DSS45 User’s Guide
20
Important Point:
• Pressing any of the keys viz. 1-9, 0, *, #, spd, ans, redial,
extension DSS keys and trunk DSS keys activates the speaker.
LED
• As explained earlier 12 extension line DSS keys, 8 trunk DSS
keys and 6 special function keys houses a LED on its left side.
The top cover is transparent on the left side so that the light
comes out through it and is seen by the user. 12 extension DSS
LEDs and 8 trunk DSS LED gives the status of an extension
line/trunk in two ways:
• Normal Status
• Current Status.
Normal Status
• The table given below shows every possible status of an
extension line/trunk.
Sr. LED Status Meaning
1 Off The extension/trunk is free
2 On The extension/trunk is busy
3 Ring cadence The extension is ringing/trunk is
ringing on extension
4 Dial cadence The extension/trunk is dialing
5 Flashing-fast The extension is calling
operator/the trunk is ringing
6 Flashing-slow The extension/trunk is on hold
Current Status
The operator can know the Current Status of any extension line/
trunk by pressing the DSS key of that extension line/trunk. This
information shown on the LCD.
