Read before operating your cooktop
All appliances- regardlessofthemanufacturer-havethepotential
through improperor careless use to create safety problems.
Thereforethe followingsafetyprecautionsshouldbe observed:
1. Never useyourapplianceforwarmingorheatingthe room.
2. Childrenshouldnotbeleftaloneorunattendedinareawhere
applianceisin use. Theyshouldneverbeallowedto sit or
standonanypartofthe appliance.
3. Wearproper apparelLoose-fittingor hanging garments
should never be worn while using the appliance.
4. Do not repair or replaceany part of theapplianceunless
specifically recommended inthis manual. All other servicing
should be referredto an authorized Maytag ServiceTechni-
cian.
5. Flammablematerialsshould notbestorednearsurface units.
6. Donotusewater ongreasefires.Smotherfireorflameor use
dry chemical or foam-typeextinguisher.
7. Use only dry potholders. Moist or damp potholders on hot
surfaces mayresultinburnsfrom steam. Do notletpotholder
touch hotheatingelements.Donotuseatowelorother bulky
cloth.
8. Useproperpansize. Manyappliancesare equippedwithone
ormore surface units ofdifferentsize. Selectcookware
havingflat bottomslargeenoughto coverthesurfaceunit
heatingelement. The useof undersizedcookwarewill
exposeaportionoftheheatingelementtodirectcontactand
may resultin ignitionofclothing. Proper relationshipof
cookwaretoheatingelementwillalsoimproveefficiencyand
performance.
9. Never leavesurface unitsunattendedat highheatsettings.
Boil over causessmokingand greasyspilloversthat may
ignite.

10. Glazed cookware - only certaintypes ofglass,glass-ceremic,
ceramic, earthenware, orother glazed cookware aresuitable
for cooktop surfacewithout breaking dueto thesudden
change intemperature. Use onlysuchcookware asyou know
has been approved for this purpose.
11. Cookware handles should beturned inward and not extend
over adjacent surface heating elements to avoid burns,
ignitionofflammable materials and spillage due to uninten-
tionalcontact with thecookware.
12. Do not soak or immerseremovableheating elements in
water.
13. CAUTION -Do not storeitems of interest to childrenin
cabinets above cooktop -childrenclimbingonthe cooktopto
reach items could be seriously injured.
14. Do not touch surfaceunitsor areas near units.Surface units
or heating elements may behot even thoughthey are dark in
color. Areas near surface unitsmay become hot enough to
cause burns. Duringand after use,do nottouchorlet clothing
or other flammable materials contact these areas untilthey
havehadsufficienttime tocool. Other surfacesmay become
hot enough to cause burns - among thesesurfaces isthe
cooktop.
15. Do not cook on glass-ceramic cooking surface if thecooktop
is broken. Cleaning solutions and spillovers may penetrate
the broken cooktop and createa shock hazard.Contact an
authorized Maytag ServiceTechnician.
16. Clean glass-ceramic cooktops with caution.If wet sponge or
cloth is used towipe spills on ahot cooking area, be careful
toavoid steam burns. Some cleansers can produce noxious
fumes if applied to a hot surface.
17.Do not operate with damaged cooking element after any
product malfunction until proper repair has been made.
18. Keep all switches "OFF" when unit is not in use.

Congratulationsonyourchoiceofa Maytagradiantcooktopcartridge.Thetwocooking
areasareidentifiedbycirclesontheglass-ceramiccooktop.Whenanelementisturned
ON,thecooktopwillheatupandtheredglowoftheheatingelementcanbeseenthrough
theglass-ceramictop.Itisnormaltoseetheredglowoftheelementwheneveritcycles
on.The elementwillcycleon andoffforallcontrolsettingsexceptHI. However,itmay
alsocycleon HI ifimpropercookwareisused.
• BEFOREFIRSTUSE.CLEAN COOKTOPCARTRIDGE (See p.7)
•Forbestresults,alwaysuse recommendedcookware.
• Differentcookpotsanddifferentamountsoffoodbeingpreparedwillinfluencethe
controlsettingsneededforbestresults.(Seeeooktoporrangeuse&caremanual
fortypicalcontrolsettings.)Forfastestcooking,startwiththesurfacecontrolon
HI for one minute;then turnthe controlto the lowerdesiredsetting.Covering
pans,wheneverpossible,speedscookingand is moreenergyefficient.
•Theglass-ceramiccookingarea retains heatfor a periodoftime after the
elementshave been turnedoff. Putthis retainedheatto gooduse. Turn the
elementsoffafewminutesbeforefoodiscompletelycookedandusetheretained
heattocompletethecooking. Becauseofthisheatretentioncharacteristic,the
elementswillnotrespondtochangesinheatsettingsasquicklyascoilelements.
Inthe eventofa potentialboilover,removethe eookpotfromthe cookingarea.
•Whenpreparingfoods which can be easily scorchedor over-cooked,start
cookingat a lowertemperaturesettingand graduallyincreasetemperatureas
needed.
•Ahighersettingthannormalmaybenecessarywhenusingcookpotsmadewith
materialthat isslowtoconductheat, suchas cast iron.
•Alowersettingcanbeusedwhencookingsmallquantitiesoffoodsorwhenusing
a cookpotthatconductsheatquickly.
IMPORTANT
•Do notusewiretrivets,firerings,padsoranysuchitembetweenthecookware
and the element.
•Do notcookfoodsdirectlyon eooktop.
•Do not allowpanto boildry as thiscoulddamagethe cooktopandthe pan.
•Do not slideheavy metal or glasscookpotsacrosssurfacesincethesemay
scratchthesurface.
• Do notuse or placeplasticitemsanywhereon cooktop.
•Do not usecartridgein the event a break has occurred.Callan authorized
MaytagServiceTechnician.

• Selectheavy gauge cookpots. Usuallyheavygaugecookpotswillnotchange
shapewhen heated.
•Usecook,potswith flat, smooth bottoms. To determineifthecookpotisflat,
place the edgeofa ruler on the bottom. Hold uptothe light.No lightshould be
visiblebetweenthe edgeof therulerandthepan. Rejectany pansthatdo not
fitflushagainstruler'sedge.
•Match thesize ofthe cookpot to thesizeof theelement. Cookpotshouldbe
thesame sizeorslightlylarger.
•Do notusecookwerethat extendsmorethan 1 inchbeyondthe cookingarea.
•Cookwarethatissmallerindiameterthan thecookingareashouldnotbe used.
Notonlycanthiscausetheelementtorequiremoreenergyandtime,butcan also
resultinspilloversburningontothecookingarea resultingina cleaningchore.
•Do not usenonflat specialtyitemsthat are oversized,unevenor do not meet
propercookwarespecificationssuchas roundbottomwokswithdngs,griddles,
rippledbottomcanners,lobsterpots,largepressurecanners,etc.Largeutensils,
suchas pressurecannersor oversizedskillets,shouldbe usedonyon
conventionalcoil cartridgesif theydo notmeet thistest.
•Glass-ceramic,earthenware,heatproofglassor glazedcookpotsmayscratch
theglass-ceramiccooktopand thereforeare not recommended.

• Do notallowplasticobjects,sugar,or foodswith highsugarcontentto melt
ontothehotcooktop.Me,tedmaterialscancausepermanentdamagetothe
cooktop, ifyou accidentallymelt anything onto thecooktop, removeit
immediatelywhilethecooktopisstillhot. Carefully,useasingleedge razor
bladeheldwitha potholderto removemeltedon material.
•Do notuse a_uminumfoilorfoil-type containers underany circumstances.
AluminumfoLIwilldamagethecooktopifitmeltsontotheglass. Ifmetalmelts
on cook_op,do notuse.Call an authorizedMaytag ServiceTechnician.
•Do notusetheglass-ceramiccooktopas acuttingboard.
•Do NOT useabrasivecleansingpowdersor scouringpads (includingmetal
scouringpads),whichwill scratchthe cooktop.
• DoNOTusechlorinebleach,ammonia,rustremovers,evencleaners,or other
cleansernotspecificallyrecommendedfor useonglass-ceramic.
•Never immerseyourcooktopcartridgein water.
•Testcast ironwaresinceall are notflat. Also becautionedagainstpossible
"impactdamage"shouldthe heavycookpotbedroppedonthe glass-ceramic
surface.

BEFORE CLEANING, BE CERTAIN ALL ELEMENTS ARE TURNED OFF AND THE
COOKTOP IS COOL.
CAUTION: Do NOT usea cooktop cleaner on a hot cooktop. The fumes can be
hazardous to your health, and can chemically attack the glass-ceramic
surface.
• Thecartridgedoesnotneedtoberemovedfromthecooktopfornormalcleaning.
Ifremoved,bottommaybewipedclean withdampcloth. Ifelectricalterminals
on cartridgearecleaned,drythemthoroughlybefore using.
•For generaldailycleaningand lightsurfacesoil,usea cleandishclothor paper
towel and wash surface with solutionof water and any ofthese cleansers:
dishwashingliquidsuchasIvoryorJoy,bakingsoda,finepolishingpowderssuch
as BonAmi,orcommemialceramiccooktopcleanserssuchasCooktopCleaning
Creme(PartNo.20000001). Wipewithcleandampclothorpapertowel. Rinse
and dry thoroughly.
•To removeresiduefromburnedon spills,useBonAmi,Comet,ShinySinksor
nonabrasivesoft scrubbingcleansers,suchas CooktopCleaningCreme (Part
No.20000001). Scrubwithpapertowels,nylonorplasticscrubber,suchasTufty.
Rinseand drythoroughly. Ifstainisnotremovedeasily,allowpasteto remain
on surfacefor30 to40 minutes. Keep moistbycoveringwith wetpapertowel.
•To removeburnedon spot,usea singleedgerazorblade. Placebladeedgeon
cooktopat 30° angle; scrapeoffspot. Clean remainderof soilwith method
describedabove.
• Makesurebottomsofcookpotsarealwayscleananddry. (Soilfromthecookpot
bottomcanbetransferredtothecooktopsurface.) Beforeusingcookpctsonthe
glass-ceramiccooktopfor thefirsttime,and periodicallyas needed,clean the
bottomswithscouringpadsor othercleansers. Rinseand dry thoroughly.
•Makeita practicetowipecooktopsurfacewitha cleandampclothorpapertowel
beforeeach use; drythoroughly.Invisiblespatters,dust specks,cleansersor
watercancausestainsthatappearafter unitisheated. A spongeor dishcloth
whichisnotcleanwillleavefilmandsoilladendetergentwaterwhichmaycause
stainson surface after area is heated.
•Whenfrying,useaspatter shieldto reducespattering.
•Usecorrectcontrolsettingsand cookwarelarge enoughto holdfood and liquid
topreventboiloversand spattering.
•Ifa bad spilloveroccurswhilecooking,spillsmay becleanedfromthecooktop
whileitishottopreventa toughcleaningchorelater. Usingextremecare, wipe
with a clean damptowel.Becarefultoavoidburnsfromsteamorhandtouching
the hotcooktop.

MAYTAG WARRANTY
If the accessoryorcartridgeispurchasedat the sametime and forusewitha Maytag
grillrangeorcooktop,thewarrantyapplicabletothe rangeorcooktopwillappply. Itis
theowner'sresponsibilitytoprovideproofthattheaccessoryorcartridgewaspurchased
witha rangeorcooktop.
Whentheaccessoryorcartridgeisnotpurchasedwitha rangeorcooktop,thefollowing
limitedparts warrantyshallapply.
Limited Warranty
Duringthefirst two(2) yearsfromthedate oforiginalretailpurchase,
anypartwhichfailsinnormalhomeusewillberepairedor replacedfree
of chargefor the parts itself,with the owner paying all other costs,
includinglabor,mileage and transportation,when the accessory is
properlyinstalledinan appliancewhichislocatedintheUnitedStates
or Canada.
Canadian Residents
ThiswarrantycoversonlythoseaccessoriesinstalledinCanadathathavebeen listed
withCanadianStandardsAssociationunlessthe accessoriesarebroughtintoCanada
due totransferof residencefrom the UnitedStatesto Canada,
