Instructions for Integrating the McMurdo Smartfind S20 SRS to the Mustang Survival EP 38 Inflatable
Ocean Racing Vest
About the S20 SRS:
The S20 is design to be integrated with an inflatable PFD to be activated by the force of inflation. The
S20 can be attached to the right side of the EP 38 Inflatable Vest, clipping onto the safety whistle
attachment strap. The red cap on the S20 will be pulled off during inflation, releasing the antenna and
activating the device. For further information refer to the S20 User Manual.
Integrating the S20 SRS to the EP 38 Inflatable Vest:
•The S20 comes out of the box ready for manual activation only. This means the orange lanyard will
be tied to the white section of the S20 (Fig. 1). To allow for the S20 to be activated by inflation,
undo this knot so the long lanyard hangs lose from the red cap
•Pull out the orange arming tab by slightly lifting up the end of the tab (the side with the engraved
arrows) and sliding it in the direction of the arrows. The white section of the S20 should now read
“ARMED” (Fig. 1)
•Ensure that the webbing clip is attached to the back of the S20.
•On the PFD, undo the Velcro™ tab on the wearer’s right side at the bottom, to expose the zipper.
Undo the zipper by placing a finger underneath the zipper end and running it up, toward wearer’s
face. Unfold the material to expose the whistle and light attachment tabs.
•Clip the S20 onto the tab that the whistle is attached to (Fig. 2).
NOTE: The whistle is removed for clarity

•Undo the Velcro™ at the bottom of the PFD, exposing the bottom pleat (or gusset)
•Tie the orange lanyard to the small loop located in the bottom pleat, towards the back of the PFD,
behind the lifting loop. Make sure to tie the lanyard off a short as possible, taking up all the slack in
the lanyard when the sides and bottom of the PFD are folded in (Fig. 3)
NOTE: In order for the S20 to be activated by the PFD inflation the lanyard needs to be as short as
possible without affecting the shape of the PFD when it is full packed
•Tie the end of what remains of the lanyard to the white portion of the S20. This will secure the S20
to the PFD in the event that the S20 is freed from the attachment tab (Figure 4). Leave plenty of
slack in this section of the lanyard to ensure it does not pull the S20 when the PFD is inflated. Insert
the whistle on the tab, beside the S20.

•Double check to see that the orange arming tab is still hanging loosely and repack the PFD as per
the Owner’s Manual. Make sure that there is nothing that will tangle or stop the lanyard from
pulling the red cap off when the PFD inflates.
Note: The unit is activated by the red cap being released or repositioned, deactivate the S20 if either
occurs. If the S20 is activated during the integration process, follow the S20’s instruction for use. To
deactivate, hold the off button for at least 3 seconds.
Integration of the McMurdo Smartfind S20 SRS with the Mustang Survival EP 38 Inflatable Ocean Racing
Vest will not void the PFD’s approval. If you are not confident that you can attach the S20 to this PFD in
accordance with these instructions, contact Mustang Survival customer service.
