Introduction
The ENV-597 Water Maze Pool Heater is intended to be used to maintain a constant
temperature in either the mouse or rat size pools. The heater will arrive installed in the
water maze pool, however temperature settings will need to be made. This manual
should be carefully read prior to operating the heater.
Heater Controller
Warnings
NOTE: Failure to comply with the following actions will result in heater
failure and possible equipment damage, injury or fire.
1. Place the heater controller in a dry location. Moisture in the controller will
cause failure.
2. Do not operate the heater when it is out of the water or in low water. An
exposed heater is a potential fire hazard.
3. Allow the heater to cool for 20 minutes before removing it from the pool.
4. Protect the heater from power surges by having the proper size circuit breaker or
inline fuse.
5. Be sure that the thermostat sensor is immersed in water and positioned away from
the heater.

1. Press the SET button once to access the Fahrenheit/Celsius mode. The LCD will
show the current unit, either Ffor degrees Fahrenheit or Cfor degrees Celsius.
Press the UP or DOWN button to toggle between the two.
2. Press the SET button again to access the temperature set point. The LCD will
display the current set point and the S1 annunciator will be blinking on and off to
indicate that the controller is in the set point mode. Press either the UP button to
increase the set point or the DOWN button to decrease the set point to the desired
temperature.
3. Press the SET button again to access the differential. The LCD will display the
current differential setting and the DIF 1 annunciator will be blinking on and off to
indicate that the controller is in differential mode. Press either the UP button to
increase the differential or the DOWN button to decrease the differential to the
desired setting. A differential setting of 1 is recommended.
4. Press the SET button again and the LCD will display the current mode, either C1 for
cooling or H1 for heating. Press either the UP or DOWN button to toggle to H1.
Press the SET button once more and programming is complete.

NOTE: The temperature controller will automatically end programming if no buttons are
pressed for a period of thirty seconds. Any settings that have been input to the
controller will be accepted at that point. All controller settings are retained in
non-volatile memory if power to the controller is interrupted for any reason. Re-
programming is not necessary after power outages or disconnections unless
different control settings are required.
Low Water Shut-Off Switch
The ENV-597 Pool Heater is equipped with a low water shut-off switch. If the water level
goes below the low water shut-off level, the heater should shut off. However, it is
important to reiterate that the heater should never be turned on when it is in low or no
water.

Troubleshooting Error Messages
Error Message Indicates Corrective Action
Either the or button is
being pressed when not in
programming mode.
If the E1 message appears when no
keys are being pressed, replace the
controller.
The control settings are not properly
stored in memory. Check all settings and correct if necessary.
The thermostat probe is open,
shorted or sensing a temperature
that is out of range.
Verify that the temperature is not
out of range. If not, verify the
functionality of the probe by
comparing it to a known ambient
temperature between -30°F and
220°F. Replace probe if necessary.
The EEPROM data has been
corrupted. Replace the controller.
The controller is in calibration mode.
Remove power to the controller for
at least five seconds. Reapply
power. If the CL message still
appears, replace the controller.
