A IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
To prevent fire or shock hazard, do not expose this product to rain or any type of excess moisture.
Ifaccidentally dropped into water, the AC adaptor should immediately be unplugged from the wall
along with the telephone line cord.
A. Use only with Class 2 Power Source 10VDC 300mA.
When using your product, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of
fire, electric shock and injury to persons, including the following:
1. Read and understand all instructions.
2. Follow all warnings and instructions marked on the product.
3. Unplug this product from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liqlJid cleaners or aerosol
cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning.
4. Do not use this product near water, for example, near a bath tub, wash bowl, kitchen sink, or
laundry tub, in a wet basement, or near a swimming pool.
5. Do not place this product on an unstable cart, stand or table. The product may fall, causing
serious damage to the product.
6. Slots and openings in the cabinet and the back or bottom are provided for ventilation, to protect
it from overheating. These openings should never be blocked or covered. The openings should
never be blocked by placing the product on the bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface. This
product should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat register. This product should not
be placed in a built-in installation unless proper ventilation is provided.
7. This product should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking
label. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consult your dealer or local
power company.
8. Do not allow anything to rest on the power cord. Do not locate this product where the cord will
be abused by persons walking on it.
9. Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords as this can result in the risk of fire or electric
shock.
10. Never push objects of any kind into this product through cabinet slots as they may touch
dangerous voltage points or short out parts that could result in a risk of fire or electric shock.
Never spill liquid of any kind on the product.
11. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble this product, but take it to a qualified
service contractor when some service or repair work is required. Opening or removing covers
may expose you to dangerous voltages or other risks. Incorrect reassembly can cause electric
shock when the appliance is subsequently used.
12. Unplug this product from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under
the following conditions:
A. When the power supply cord or plug is damaged or frayed.
B. If liquid has been spilled into the product.
C. If the product has been exposed to rain or water.~

D. If the product does not operate normally by following the operating instructions. Adjust only
those controls, that are covered by the operating instructions. Improper adjustments of other
controls may result in damage and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician
to restore the product to normal operation.
E. Ifthe product has been dropped or the cabinet has been damaged.
F. Ifthe product exhibits a distinctive change in performance.
13. Avoid using the product during an electrical storm. There may be a remote risk of electric shock
from lightning.
14. Do not use the product to report a gas leak in the vicinity of the leak.

1. Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm.
2. Never install telephone jacks.in wet locations unless the jack is specifically designed for wet
locations.
3. Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or terminals unless the telephone line has been
disconnected at the network interface.
4. Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines.
A MAINTENANCE
1. Use a damp cloth to clean the plastic cabinet. A mild soap will help to remove grease or oi1. Never
use polish, solvents, abrasives or strong detergents since these can damage the finish.2.
Your product should be situated away from heat sources such as radiators, heaters, stoves or
any other appliance that produces heat.
A CAUTION
To reduce the risk of fire or injury to persons, read and follow these instructions:
1. Use only the battery specified in this manual.
2. Do not dispose of the battery in a fire. The cell may explode. Check with local codes for possible
special disposal instructions.
3. Do not open or destroy the battery. Released electrolyte is corrosive and may cause damage to
the eyes or skin. It may be toxic if swallowed.
4. Exercise care in handling battery in order not to short the battery with conducting materials such
as rings, bracelets and keys. The battery or conductor may overheat and cause burns.
5. Do not attempt to recharge the battery identified for use with this product. The battery may leak
corrosive electrolyte or explode.
6. Do not attempt to rejuvenate the battery identified for use with this product by heating them.
Sudden release of the battery electrolyte may occur causing burns or irritation to eyes or skin.
7. When inserting the battery into this product, the proper polarity or direction must be observed.
Reverse insertion of batteries can cause charging that may result in leakage or explosion.
8 Do not store this product, or the battery identified for use with this product, in high temperature
areas. Batteries that are stored in a freezer or refrigerator for the purpose of extending shelf life
should be stabilized at room temperature prior to use after cold storage.
9. Disconnect telephone lines and power adaptor before installing the battery.
10. Remove the batteries from this product if the product will not be used for a long period on time
(several mouths or more) since during this time the battery could leak in the product.
11. Discard "dead" batteries as soon as possible since "dead" batteries are more likely to leak in a
product.

The FCC requires that you be advised of certain requirements involving the use of this product.
1. This product complies with Part 68 of the FCC rules. On the bottom of this product is a label that
contains, among other information, the FCC registration number and Ringer Equivalence Number
(REN) for this product. If requested, "provide this information to your telephone company.
2. The REN is useful to determine the quantity of devices you may connect to your telephone line
and still have all of those devices ring when your number is called. In most, but not all areas, the
sum of the RENs of all devices should not exceed five (5.0). To be certain of the number of
devices you may connect to your line, as determined by the REN, you should call your local
telephone company to determine the maximum REN for your calling area.
3. If your product causes harm to the telephone network, the telephone company may discontinue
your service temporarily. If possible, they will notify you in advance. But if advance notice is not
practical, you will be notified as soon as possible. You will be advised of your right to file a
complaint with the FCC.
4. Your telephone company may make changes to its facilities, equipment, operations or procedures
that could affect the proper operation of your product. If they do, you will be given advance notice
so as to give you an opportunity to maintain uninterrupted service.
5. If your experience trouble with the product, please call 1-800-919-3647 for repair/warranty
information. The telephone company may ask you to disconnect this product from the network
until the problem has been corrected or you are sure that the product is not malfunctioning.
6. This product may not be used on coin service provided by the telephone company. Connection to
party lines is subject to state tariffs. (Contact your state public utility commission or corporation
commission for information).

pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection
against harmful interference in a residential installation. This product generates, uses, and radiate
radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may
cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that
interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this product does cause harmful interference
to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the product off and on, the user
is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:
-Increase the separation between the product and receiver.
-Connect the product into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is
connected.
-Consult the dealer or an experienced radio TV technician for help.
NOTE: This product does not sound warning beeps to let the other party know that the call is being
recorded. To ensure that you are in compliance with any state and federal regulations that concern
recording a telephone call, you should start the recording process and then inform the caller that
you are recording the call.

A. Power Jack Socket -Connect power adaptor lead.

Installing the Unit
important »> During power failure the 9V (1604) alkaline or carbon-zinc battery maintains your
Out Going Message (OGM), any recorded messages and your Security Code,
but the unit will not operate until mains power is restored.
note »> If you do not install a 9V (1604) alkaline or carbon-zinc battery, any disruption to the
mains power supply will result in loss of your own OGM announcement, any recorded
messages and your own Security Code. The OGM announcement and Security Code
will revert to the factory default settings.

Connecting the Power Adaptor
Only use with the adaptor supplied or damage will be caused.
1. Insert the power adaptor lead into the power Jack socket (A) and connect the unit to the mains
supply.
2. The unit beeps and performs a"self check" and the Message Counter display (J) counts from 0
(zero) to 15 and beeps again and switcnes on LED which illuminates.
3. After a long beep the Message Counter display (J) flashes "CL" and "0" and repeats this
sequence until the clock is set.
note »> If the battery is installed incorrectly or exhausted, then "La" is added to the display
sequence. "La", "CL" and "0".
If you do not want to be disturbed by incoming calls whilst you are setting up the unit, it may be
desirable at this stage to set the Clock Day / Time stamp and your own Out Going Message (OGM)
before following the connection procedure.
Connecting to the Telephone Line
Insert the Telephone Line (H) into the telephone wall socket making sure that it clicks into position.
Connecting your Telephone
Insert the line cord from your telephone into the Telephone Jack Socket (8) located at the rear of
the unit making sure that it clicks into position.
Having connected the system your " Digital Messenger" is now ready to receive incoming calls
"LED Indicator (C) illuminated".
If you have not recorded your own personalized Out Going Message (OGM) the unit will automati-
cally announce the following, "Hello we cannot take your call at the moment, please leave your
message after the tone".
To record your own personalized OGM refer to "To record or change your OGM".

The unit is set to answer calls only when the LED Indicator (C) is illuminated.
To record or change your OGM
Your announcement should ask callers to leave a message.
Try to keep your announcement brief (under 60 seconds) as this maximizes the recording time
available for incoming messages.

To check your OGM announcement
1: Press and release the SKIP ~~I OGM
button (M).
Toll Saver Facility
Your unit has a Toll Saver Facility. This means your unit will answer call on the 4th rings if there are no
new messages, or on the 2ndrings if new messages have been record. Therefore when you are
calling your unit remotely you will know by the 3,dring ifthere are nQ new messages. So you can
hang up saving the cost of the call.

note »> If the correct Day / Time stamp has been set, then after each message, the time and
day that it was received is announced. The Message Counter (J) also displays the
message number that is currently being played.
2. After the last message the unit announces "End of messages", and they are saved
automatically.
note »> All messages remain in the memory buffer until erased. Follow the procedure above to
replay your messages.
note »> If no messages are recorded, the unit will announce, "You have no messages".

to the next message.

Erasing Messages
As your messages are automatically saved after playback, you should regularly erase some or all
messages. This will avoid the memory becoming full.
You can erase all messages or just the message currently being replayed.
To erase all messages
1. Press and hold the Delete button (E) for
(about 2 seconds), the Message
Counter (J) displays "ES" until long
beep.
To restore all erased messages
You can restore erased messages provided the unit has not recorded any new messages since
they were erased.
note »> This function only works to restore all erased messages. You cannot restore
messages erased individually during message playback.

2. After 3 rings of the telephone, the unit answers calls with a voice message "Memory full, please
call later".
3. The OGM announcement does not play and messages will not record.
4. Replay all messages, then follow the "Erase all Messages" procedures above or erase
messages Remotely.
Security Code
Used to access your unit remotely. Before you can access your unit by remote control you must
first enter a 3 digit Security Code into your unit. The unit comes with a factory default Security Code
of 159 which can be changed to any 3 digits ranging from 000 to 999.

3. After the long beep the display shows the first digit of the code ready for setting.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 above to enter the 2ndand 3'" digits for your new code.
note »> To exit and abandon the changes or retain the previous set code, press and release
the PLAY I STOP button (K) and you hear a double beep.
The unit gives a double beep and automatically abandons the setting procedure if no
key is pressed within 8 seconds of the last entry.
Remote Control
When you call your number and want to retrieve your messages, you must first enter your 3 digit
Security Code via a remote tone telephone keypad. All the units functions are then accessible via
the tone telephone keypad.
important »> During remote operation, you must press and hold all key commands for a
minimum of 1 second, and enter a command within 8 secs of any beep or
previous command. If you do not respond within 8 seconds after voice menu is
played you hear a long beep and the unit automatically disconnects the call.
During remote voice announcement you can skip the voice menu by entering
the selected command key.

Accessing your unit by Remote Control
1. Call your telephone number and the unit answers with your OGM announcement.
2. Press the (.) key on the telephone
keypad to interrupt your OGM
announcement.
3. After the long beep enter your 3 digit Security Code and you hear one long beep.
4. The unit announces "You have xx messages" and plays voice menu. You now have 8 seconds
to respond with a command 0r you hear a long beep and the unit automatically terminates remote
operation.
Turn the unit On by Remote Control
Ifyou forget to turn the unit on:
1. Call your telephone number.
2. After (10) rings the unit answers and you hear a double beep.
3. Enter your 3 digit Security Code via the telephone keypad and you will hear one long beep.

Turn the unit Off by Remote Control
Follow steps 1-4 on "Accessing your Unit by Remote Control" to access the unit.
1. Press the (*) key followed by the (5) key
on the telephone keypad and the unit
switches off after the beep.
2. Press the (#) key on the telephone
keypad and then hang up and any
messages are saved for later playback.

Follow steps 1-4 on "Accessing your Unit by Remote Control" to access the unit.
