Recoilis thesudden reactionas a result ofa
jammed orblockedrotatingplug-in-tool, such as
a

Jamming or blockingleads toan abruptstopof
therotatingplugin-tool.This causesacceleration
ofany uncontrolledelectric tools rotatinginthe
oppositedirectiontothe plug-in-toolatthe point
ofblockage.
Iffor example agrinding wheel getsjammed or
blocked bythe workpiece, the edge ofthe
grinding wheel could get stuck and the grinding
wheel could breakfree or recoil, if
it
should come
intocontact with the workpiece. Thegrinding
wheel movestoward oraway from the operator,
depending uponthe direction of rotationofthe
disk at the pointof blockage.
Grindingwheels couldalso bebrokenifthis
occurs.
Recoilis the result of incorrector wrong use of
the electric tool. Itcan be prevented by suitable
precautions, as described below.
a) Holdtheelectrictool securelyandmove
your
bodyandyourarmsintoa positioninwhich
youcanabsorbtheforcecreatedbythe
recoil. Alwaysusetheadditional handle(if
thereisone)togiveyouthemaximum

recoiland reactionforces bytakingsuitable
precautions.
b) Nevermoveyourhandintothevicinityof

c) Keepyour body outthearea intowhichthe
electric toolwill bemovedif
it

tothegrinding/sandingwheel
atthepointatwhich
it
is blocked.
d)Work with particular care around corners,
sharp edges, etc. Ensure that the plug-intool
does notbounceofforjam intheworkpiece.
At corners, sharp edges orif
it
bounces, the
rotating plug-intoolwilltendtojam. This will
resultinlossofcontrol or recoil.
e) Donotuse chainsaw blades ortoothedsaw
blades.These plug-intools oftencauserecoilor
loss ofcontrol oftheelectrictool.
Specialsafety
instructionsforsandpapering:
a) Donotuse oversized sandpaper; follow the
manufacturer's instructions onthe size ofthe
sandpaper. Sandpaperthat projects beyondthe
sanding disk maycauseinjuries, resultinthe
sandpaper becomingjammedortorn, orproduce
kick-back.
Specialsafetyinstructionsforpolishing:
a) Makesure there are nolooseparts, in
particularfasteningties, onthe polishing
bonnet. Rollup or shorten thefastening ties.
Loose, rotating ties may catch your fingers or get
jammed inthe workpiece.
