Hot Water Heater setup
Note the following when installing
• Installations must comply with building regulations along with other relevant regulations
and provisions, including requirements for electricity and water installation.
• Check all technical data and information on the data plate.
• Make sure that all accessories are unpacked.
• Ensure that there is easy access to the water heater. An external shut-off valve must be
installed on the input to the water heater.
• Prior to being connected, water pipes must be carefully cleaned.
• The water heater must never be exposed to water pressure in excess of 1 MPa (10 bar).
Installation of the water heater may be carried out only by an authorized HVAC Installer and in
accordance with the relevant building code.

Risk of corrosion
METRO THERM storage tanks are constructed from enameled steel and protected by a magne-
sium anode. If the connections and the rest of the piping is made of copper or stainless steel,
there may be risk of galvanic corrosion at the connections. The risk of galvanic corrosion can
be minimized by using a PEX-tube transition piece between the tank and the pipe installation.
Failures resulting from such risk are not covered by the METRO THERM warranty.
The Water heater is supplied with PEX bushings for cold and hot water connections.
These bushings protect the enamel coating and must not be removed.
The water heater is to be installed as a pressure tank with a shut-off valve, check valve, and
safety valve such as a METRO safety system. The safety system must be placed as shown in
Figure 2.
The use of soft water in METRO THERM tank
Salt based soft water may be used in a METRO THERM hot water tank. It would however be
a good idea to remove the anode before the tank is put into use, since otherwise the anode
may degrade. If the anode breaks down, water may begin to smell, glass in dishwashers may
become milky white, and hydrogen sulphide may be formed, causing the tank to bubble.
Do not use demineralised water (double ion-exchanged) as the tank will then corrode in a
short time. Demineralized water is also referred to as totally desalinated water and de-ionized
water.
