Introduction
Micro Seven, Inc. 's model VM10-C provides voiced measurement data output in your own voice in any language.
The measurement includes DC Volt, AC Volt, and resistance. The measurement mode includes voice-trigger mode
for starting A/D with audio input through a built-in microphone, value-change mode for starting A/D automatically for
input exceeding certain value, continuous mode, and computer interface mode. VM10's voiced measurement data
output eliminates looking of display data on conventional display; thus, the value-change mode provides automatic
voiced data without looking at a display area. Each voice segment for numerical and legend voice element is
programmable via a built-in microphone by using control software, and the recorded voice may be saved at a file in
a computer or downloaded into VM10-C. The PC interface enables PC-controlled measurement of DC and AC
voltage, and resistance.
Original MICRO SEVEN-Model VM10, HAND-HELD Voiced Multi-meter is shown in above picture. VM10-C does not contain
LCD display, top cover switches, temperature measurement , and audio connectors.

OPERATION
Power Supply Selection and internal optional rechargeable battery
The VM10-C may be operated with standard or optional AC/DC Adapter, internal optional rechargeable battery, or
Car Battery Adapter (external DC operation). The standard AC/DC Adapter that is supplied with VM10-C requires
117V input power. The optional International AC/DC power adapter is available for operating VM10-C in foreign
countries where different AC power and power plugs are required.
Internal optional rechargeable battery Operation
Internal optional rechargeable battery provides power for VM10-C when there is AC power loss, and it provides
power with or without the power connector at VM10-C rear panel is connected or not. For charging battery, the
power switch must be turned off.
Voice trigger mode: voiced measurement is started when excessive audio is input near microphone on the front
panel.
Value trigger mode: voiced measurement is started when input value across VHI and VLO exceeds certain level.
Automatic trigger mode: voiced measurement is started automatically.
First time operation and using control software, vm10.exe
Warning: Remove all connections at measurement input terminals. When RS232 cable is connected to PC,
measurement input terminals are shorted to earth ground. When calibration is required, voltage sources for
calibration are required to be floated with respect to earth ground potential.
Make a VM10 directory in your PC, and copy all files in the disk or CD that is supplied into the directory. Find out
RS232 communication port number in device manager in the control panel of Windows. If it is other than com1, use
a text editor to edit to change from “COM1:” in a file “commport” to your assigned communication port number. If
USB/RS232 option is required to interface USB in your PC to RS232 at VM10, install USB/RS232 interface by using
a separate CD that is supplied with USB/RS232 interface.
Open the directory “VM10” in your hard disk directory, and click vm10.exe.
There is already voice segment recorded in VM10, but you must record VM10-C with your own voice after following
instruction in the control software.
The control software provides the following:
Measurement mode and range selection
Measurement start (trigger) mode selection (continuous, voice trigger, and value trigger mode)
Recording voice data into VM10C
Calibration
Saving/loading measurement set-up data and VM10-C programmed data, factory default programmed data is also
provided.
Download/upload voice data
PIN programming (not available now. It was intended for telephone interface option)
Terminal mode to enter ASCII commands
Automatic recording of received measurement data
Digital data is stored as a text file in PC (VM10testdata.txt)
RS232 interface:
To interface VM10-C to other computer or to develop your own software or use Hyperterminal instead of our control
software, the following RS232 programming parameters need to be set up in your computer to interface VM10:
Baud rate: 57600
ByteSize = 8;
Parity = NOPARITY;
StopBits = ONESTOPBIT;
