Removing the Access Cover
You need to remove the access cover, and in some cases the front bezel, to reach components inside the
chassis. Facing the front of the chassis, the access cover is on the right side for pedestal-mounted (tower)
servers and on the top for rack-mounted servers.
1. Observe the safety and ESD precautions at the beginning of this chapter.
2. Turn off all peripheral devices connected to the server.
3. Turn power to the server OFF by using the power on / off switch on the front panel AND unplug all
AC power cords.
4. Label and disconnect all peripheral cables attached to the I/O panel.

5. Remove and save the three screws from the back of the access cover; you will need them later to
reattach the cover.
6. Place the fingertips of your right hand under the built-in handle on the back of the cover.
A rounded, rectangular depression in the front middle of the access cover serves as another
handle.
7. Using an even pull, slide the cover backward, about an inch, until it stops.
8. Pull the entire cover outward, straight away from the chassis, to disengage the rows of tabs from
the notches in the top and bottom edges of the chassis. Set the cover aside.

Opening the Subchassis and Electronics Bay
The chassis is comprised of three parts: the main chassis, a swing-out subchassis at the front, and a
swing-out subchassis, called the electronics bay, at the rear. To access components in some instances,
you must swing away and/or completely remove the subchassis and electronics bay.
1. Observe the safety and ESD precautions at the beginning of this chapter.
2. Remove the access cover.
3. Remove the two screws on the top and bottom edges of the chassis (Figure 5, A). These screws
attach the front subchassis and the electronics bay to the main chassis.

Using the System Setup Utility
The System Setup Utility (SSU) is on the Micron Customer Resource Center (MCRC) software CD
shipped with the server board. The SSU provides a graphical user interface (GUI) over an extensible
framework for server configuration. For the NF5200 systems, the SSU framework supports the following
functions and capabilities:
•Assigns resources to baseboard devices and add-in cards prior to loading the operating
system (OS)
•Allows you to specify boot device order and system security options
•Permits viewing and clearing of the system’s critical event log
•Allows troubleshooting of the server when the OS is not operational
•Provides a system level view of the server’s I/O devices

Power-on self test
Each time you turn power to the server ON, the power LED located on the front panel illuminates and the
power-on self-test (POST) starts running. The POST checks the I/O system board, processor system
board, keyboard, and most installed peripheral devices.
During the memory test, POST displays the amount of memory that it is able to access and test.
Depending on the amount of memory installed on each memory board, the test may take several minutes.
These screen prompts and messages appear after the memory test:
Mouse initialized....
Press <F2> to enter SETUP
If you Do NOT press <F2>. The above message remains on display for a few seconds then the POST
continues. The server beeps once, and looks for an on-board Operating System (OS). If an OS is NOT
loaded, than this message appears:
Operating system not found
If you Do NOT press <F2> and DO have an operating system loaded, the boot process continues, and this
message appears:
Press <Ctrl><A> to enter SCSI Utility
Press <Ctrl+A> if there are SCSI devices installed. When the utility opens, follow the displayed

1HW)5$0(6HULHV6HUYHU4XLFN6WDUW*XLGH
0LFURQ(OHFWURQLFV,QF
instructions to configure the onboard SCSI host adapter settings and to run the SCSI utilities. If you Do
NOT enter the SCSI utility, the boot process continues.
Press <Esc> during POST to pop up a boot menu when POST finishes. From this menu you can choose
the boot device or enter BIOS Setup.
After POST completes, the system beeps once.

Copying Configuration Software to Diskettes
When you copy software from the CD onto diskettes, device drivers suitable for several different operating
systems are also copied onto the diskettes. However, your operating system will read only those drivers it
can recognize. You cannot usually check the directory of a diskette that is not formatted for your operating
system. Instead, you may see a message to the effect, “disk not formatted, do you want to format it now?”
Don’t worry, about the drivers because your operating system should be present on the diskette and
available for you to load on the system.
1. Before starting, make sure that you have on hand several blank high-density diskettes. Micron
ships four blank disks with the shipment.
2. Select Create Diskettes and press <Enter>.
3. Follow the prompts to copy the software onto the diskettes.
4. Remove the CD from the drive.
