1. Introduction
Thank you for choosing Microsports -SPEED
Speedometer and Tracker.
The -SPEED is the first GPS-Speedometer worldwide
which has been developed especially for skiining and
mounting on the ski.
The data from the GPS satelites is analysed and displayed
by the -SPEED module.
This allows you the check data about your position, your
speed, altitude and other info relevant for your security in
your field of view. At the same time all GPS data can be
stored on the integrated microSD card for later evaluation.
The computer software on the included microSD card allows
you to transfer your tour data to your computer for
analysation and visualisation of your tour. Additionally you
can view your tour in Google Earth™, generate speed and
altitude profiles and import your digital photos.
MICROSPORT wishes you memorable skiing days with your
new -SPEED.
ATTENTION! Please mount the baseplate of the -SPEED
at least 24 hours before you go skiing the first time. This
guarantees the stronges glueing force for the baseplate.
Don’t let the -SPEED mislead you to fast and reckless
skiing. Protect yourself and other skiers by respectfull skiing.
SAFETY FIRST!

the “Help” menu.

5. -SPEED – Mounting the Baseplate
The baseplate should be mounted directly below the ski tip
(picture. 1) . If your ski has a strong 3D surface in this area
you can also glue the baseplate into the tip area of your ski
(picture. 2).
picture 1 picture 2
Under the baseplate there a 2 strips of 3M double sides
tape with very strong glue. This can cause damage to the
baseplate when you try to remove it from the ski. Please be
extra careful to choose the correct location when glueing the
baseplate. It is very difficult to change this afterwards
without using a new baseplate.
In order to guarantee the best glueing result of the
baseplate on your ski you have to clean the ski in the region
of glueing careful with the included cleaning tissue.

After cleaning the glueing area of your ski you can remove
the protection strips of the double sided tape and glue the
baseplate to the ski.
Press against the ski firmly for 20 seconds.
If your ski has a strong 3D structure in the tip area of your
ski you can use the 2 additional 3M double sided tape strips
included in the package in order to maximise the contact
area between baseplate and ski. The blue marks in the
pictures below show possible areas to use the extra strips of
double sided tape.
Please also make sure that you clean the areas of glueing
on the ski and the baseplate for these extra strips with the
cleaning tissue as well.
ATTENTION! Glueing MUST be done at a moderate indoor
temperature. The glue must rest for 24 hours to achieve its
highest firmness.

6. -SPEED – Handling
Insert the -SPEED module from the tip of your ski into the
baseplate until it locks in and can’t be easily pushed out
again.
5.1. On/Off
In order to operate your -SPEED Speedometer and
Tracker correctly the microSD card must be inserted (see
3.1.).
Push the On/Off button – you can do this through the silicon
skin as well – until the display comes to life.

ATTENTION! If you cant switch on the -SPEED module
even if the microSD card is inserted correctly, the
rechargeable battery might be empty. See Chapter 6.4. how
to recharge the battery and retry again after charging.
For switching off the -SPEED module press the On/OFF
button again until the display shows:
SD – Karte kann entnommen werden
SD – card can be removed
SD – card può essere rimossa
All the GPS data of your trip is now stored on the microSD
card. You can now remove the SD card from the module
and use the computer software for visualisation.
ATTENTION! When the microSD card is removed from the
-SPEED without having pushed the Off button before.
Some data might be lost from your trip.

6.2. Display
To guarantee the best visibility during skiing the -SPEED
automatically switches between 2 different display modes
depending on the skiing speed.
6.2.1. Actual speed less than 20 km/h (12 M/h)
At these slow speeds all functions will be shown on the -
SPEED display. This enables you i.e. in a skiing lift or when
you take a rest to view all functions when you can
concentrate on the display information without problem.
In the upper row you can see the battery status, the actual
time and the number of GPS satellites in reach (SAT:x).
ATTENTION! To get accurate measurements of the speed
and altitude you must receive data from at least 4 satellites.
The time between switching on the -SPEED and the
reception of 4 satellites may vary due to the weather and
your position. It can take a few minutes for the -SPEED to
be fully operational.

In the central, middle row the value of the actual function isr
displayed i.e. “max. speed“.
The displayed function changes automatically every three
seconds without having to do anything. Therefore you will
get an overview over all functions and their values of the
tour in a very short time.
The lower row displays the name of the function i.e. „max.
speed“ and the unit in which the function is expressed i.e.
km/h or M/h in this example.
6.2.2. Actual speed more than 20 km/h (12 M/h)
At higher speeds it is necessary that the user concentrates
on skiing and is not disturbed by the -SPEED display.
In order to guarantee a good visibility of the display at higher
speeds the display will only show the actual speed in the
biggest possible letters. There is no unit shown, but the
actual speed will be displayed in the unit you have selected
in chapter 6.4.

6.3. Functions
The -SPEED Speedometer + Tracker shows the following
functions in the display:
•Actual Speed
•Maximum Speed, over all runs
•Maximum Speed, last run
•Actual altitude
•Maximum altitude
•Distance downhill
•Trip Time
The display switches automatically all 3 seconds between
the different functions as long as the actual speed is less
than 20 km/h or 12 M/h.
6.4. Setup
In the Setup you can select which units should be used for
the functions, which language is displayed and how the real
time is calculated fro the time difference to the GPS time.
On the microSD card you can find the initialisation file
xspeed.ini.
Double click on the file for opening and editing it in the
Windows text editor.
The xspeed.ini file has the following structure:
