W ater so ftener
In order to achieve good cleaning
results, the dishwasher needs to
operate with soft water. H ard water
results in the build-up of calcium
deposits on crockery and in the
dishwasher.
Mains water with a hardness level
h ig h er th an 0 .7 m m o l/l (4 d –
G erm an sc ale) needs to be softened.
This takes place automatically in the
integrated water softener.
–The water softener req uires
dishwasher salt.
If y ou use combination products
which have salt in them, such as
"3 in 1" or "4 in 1" products in y our
dishwasher, y ou should still add salt
in order to achieve optimum results.
– The dishwasher must be
programmed for the water hardness
in y our area.
– Y our local water authority will be able
to advise y ou of the water hardness
level in y our area.
W here the water hardness fluctuates
e.g. between 1.4 - 3.1 mmol/l (8 - 17 d
G erman scale) alway s programme the
dishwasher to the higher value
(3.1 mmol/l in this ex ample).
In the event of a fault, it will help the
service technician if y ou know the
hardness of y our local water supply .

th e fir st tim e, y o u req u ire:
–A pprox . 2 litres of water,
–A pprox . 2 kg dishwasher salt,
–D omestic dishwasher detergent,
–R inse aid formulated for domestic
dishwashers.
E very dishwasher is tested at the
factory .
There will be residual water in the
appliance from this test. It is not an
indication that it has been used
previously .
F illing th e salt reserv o ir
If y ou use combination products
which have salt in them in y our
dishwasher, such as "3 in 1" or
"4 in 1" products, y ou should still
add salt in order to achieve optimum
results and to ensure that the water
softener continues to function
correctly . S electing the C ombi tabs
option reduces salt consumption to
between 1/3and 1/4of the normal
amount.
Important: B efore filling the salt
reservoir with dishwasher salt for the
fir st tim e, y ou must fill it with
approx . 1 litre of water to enable the
salt to dissolve. O nce the
dishwasher has been used, there is
alway s sufficient water in the
reservoir.
If the water in y our area is very soft
and constantly lo w er th an
0 .7 m m o l/l (4 d ) y ou do no t need
to add salt.
The water softener must, however,
still be programmed to correspond
to the water hardness level in y our
area.
,Inadvertently filling the salt
reservoir with powder or liq uid
dishwasher detergent will damage
the water softener.
,Miele recommends using
specially designed dishwasher salt
to max imiz e the performance of y our
dishwasher and to prevent build-up
of calcium and limescale in the
dishwasher cabinet, especially if y ou
live in hard water area.
D ishwasher salt can be purchased
online at www.miele-shop.com
(depending on country ) or via the
Miele S pare P arts D epartment.

^R emove the lower basket and
unscrew the salt reservoir cap.
W ater or saline solution will run out
of the reservoir when the cap is
removed. It should therefore only be
removed in order to refill the salt
reservoir.
^F ill the reservoir with approx . 2 litres
of water (first use only ).
^P lace the funnel provided over the
salt reservoir and carefully fill with
salt until the reservoir is full. The salt
reservoir holds approx . 2 kg of salt.
^C lean any ex cess salt from around
the reservoir opening and then screw
the cap on again fir m ly .
^R un the Q uick wash programme im-
mediately (without any crockery in
the dishwasher, and without selecting
the "Turbo" ex tra option) to remove
any traces of salt from the cabinet.
Insu ffic ient salt ind ic atio n
^F ill the salt reservoir with dishwasher
salt when the salt indicator light
comes on. (If it comes on during a
programme, wait until the end of the
programme).
A fter the reservoir has been filled, the
water softener is automatically
reactivated the nex t time the
dishwasher is run. The salt indicator
light may still be illuminated during this
process. It will go out once the salt
concentration has reached the correct
level.
The salt indicator is deactivated when
the dishwasher has been programmed
to a water hardness level below
0.7 mmol/l (4 d).
,R un the Q uick wash programme
immediately (without any crockery in
the dishwasher, and without
selecting the "Turbo" ex tra option) to
remove any traces of salt from the
cabinet.

R inse aid
R inse aid is necessary to ensure water
does not cling and leave marks on
crockery during the dry ing phase and
helps crockery dry faster after it has
been washed.
R inse aid is poured into the storage
reservoir and the amount set is
dispensed automatically .
,Inadvertently filling the rinse aid
reservoir with powder or liq uid
detergent will damage the reservoir.
O nly pour rinse aid formulated for
domestic dishwashers into the
reservoir. O therwise y ou will cause
serious damage to the reservoir.
A lternatively , it is possible to use
– household vinegar with a max . 5%
acid content
or
– liq uid citric acid up to 10% acid
content.
The resulting rinsing and dry ing q uality
will not, however, be as good as when
rinse aid is used.
,D o not use vinegar with a higher
acid content (e.g. vinegar essence
25% acid). This would damage the
dishwasher.
If y ou only ever use combination
products containing rinse aid in y our
dishwasher, y ou do not need to add
rinse aid.
A d d ing r inse aid
^P ress the button on the lid of the salt
reservoir in the direction of the arrow
until the flap springs open.
