4 Overview of Mobilarm Crewsafe
MobilarmCrewsafeisawirelesssafetynetworkdesigned toimprovetheworkplace
safety of commercial mariners by keeping track of the crew at work at all times. A
'meshed'seriesofwireless routersautomaticallydetectsemergenciesinvolving
personneland can initiate a full-scale alert within secondsof an incident such as a man
overboardeventoccurring.
Eachemployee carries a small transceiver Tag,
whichremainsconnectedtothenetworkvia
Crewsafewirelessrouters.Thenetworkimmediately
detectsanybreakinthesignalandautomatically
raises an alarm if the connection is not re-
establishedwithinafewseconds.Therefore,ifa
crew member goes overboard, the signal is lost and
an alarm is raised. Each Tag also features a duress
buttonthatcanbemanuallyactivatedifanemployee
is in distress onboard a vessel.
Anybreak in a Tag's signal, for any reason, raises an alarm. If a Tag is damaged, its
battery dies or if a person moves out of range of the network, an alarm is raised. This
ensuresthatco-workersareimmediatelyawareofa possible emergencyandemployees

systemcanautomatically send a waypoint position ofwherean incident occurs to your
vessel’schartplotter.Thisprovidesessentialtrackbacknavigationdata. The system can
reportandtrack multiple events, but willalwaysprioritise the more serious riskofman

Power Dock
The Power Dock is an essential element of Crewsafe,
providingbothstowageandchargingcapabilitiesfor
CrewsafeTags.
Crew members place the Tags into Power Dock charging
bays after use to recharge them; the Tag status LED
providesthecurrentchargestateoftheTag. The charge

Each Power Dock is capable of charging up to four Tags
simultaneouslyandTagsthathavebeenfullydischarged

Ifmore than four Tags need to be chargedand stowed on a
vessel then the design of the Power Dock allows them to be

4.1 How it Works
1. Onboardmonitoring is provided by each crew member wearinga robust, compact and
lightweightTag,whichisindividuallyregisteredtoareliableanddependablewireless

which consists of one or more wireless routers ‘meshed’ together to provide a
wirelessonboardmonitoring system. A Display Console displays the statusofall
Tags on a vessel at all times.
2. ATagisunabletotransmitthroughwaterandanalarmisautomaticallytriggeredifa
person falls off a vessel and a Tag’s connection to the network is broken. This may be
theresult of a flat battery, a Tag goingout of range or being damaged - ora man

Beacons is the immediate notification to crew on a vessel of a man overboard
emergency as soon as it occurs. EPIRB signals, for example, are routed to onshore
locationsandthese distress signals need to be confirmedbeforethe information is

lengthoftime a man overboard isinthe water before a rescueisinitiated.

vessel,thesystemautomaticallydetectsthesignalfrom the retrievedmariner’sTag.
Thisautomatically cancels the alarm and the system resumesnormal operation.
