cable on the other side with the Turning Platform Module DSM-
PIC.
Assembly notes
The module is assembled following the instructions on the next
page. For soldering the components on the PCB a soldering iron of
12 to 25 Watts or a soldering station with the temperate set to
approx. 410°C is needed together with 0.5 or 1.0 mm soldering
wire with rosin flux. No special tools are required. Do not use
soldering flux! Pay attention to solder speedy to avoid device
damage by overheating.
Non-Use
When the module is not used it should be stored at a dry and clean
place.

Maintenance and care
Dust clumping together can, in combination with condensating
liquids, become conductive and deteriorate the functionality of the
module. It is therefore important to remove dust regularly by blow-
ing it off or vacuuming the module.
CAUTION: A liquid cleaning of the part is prohibited!
Please also visit our FAQ page at www.firma-staerz.de for any
question first.
Assembly instruction
Assemble the kit in the order of these instructions. All components
are placed on the top side of the PCB as close to the PCB as
possible and soldered on the bottom side of the PCB. Use a bend-
ing tool (e.g. Conrad 425869 – 62) for bending. Cut the leads of
components flush using a wire cutter after soldering.
Solder cleanly and precisely!
1. Resistors
Bend the resistor leads for 7.5 mm pitch before insertion. To facili-
tate placing components on the PCB support the edges of the
board with the help of two books, for instance, to leave enough
space for the leads under the board. Insert the resistors on board
aligning the coloured rings of all the resistors in the same way to
make it easier to verify the value of the resistors later. Place a
suitable plane piece of wood or similar on top of the resistors on
board. Turn the board together with the wood upside down. The
underside of the board is now conveniently accessible for solder-
ing the components.
Solder one end of each resistor first and check that they are posi-
tioned properly before soldering the other end of each resistor.
R1: 33Ohm (orange, orange, black, golden, brown)
R2: 1kOhm (brown, black, black, brown, brown)
R3, R4: 1,8kOhm (brown, grey, black, brown, brown)
R5: 100Ohm (brown, black, black, black, brown)
2. Diodes
Proceed as with resistors. Observe the polarity of components: the
stripe on one end of a diode must be aligned with the stripe printed
on the circuit board silkscreen layout.
D1, D2: ZMM2V7 („2V7“)
3. Optocouplers
Observe the polarity: The orientation notch of the component must
be aligned with the one printed on the circuit board. In case of
optocouplers being marked otherwise, the designation must show
to the track terminal blocks.
OK1: SFH628A-3
4. Relays
K1: Relay 6-pinned (TR5V-M)
K2: Relay 10-pinned (B1203)
5. Pin headers and terminals
Watch the orientation of the terminals.
JP1: Pin header 4-pinned
X2: Pin header 8-pinned (with cable)
X3: Terminals 2-inned
Component layout diagram on the PCB

6. Verification
After soldering all components on the PCB verify once more that
they are placed according component layout diagram and that they
are oriented properly. Check that all solder points on the bottom
side of the PCB look correct. Note especially if there are any un-
desired solder bridges between solder pads.
Bringing into service
Before taking into service for the first time, the original PIC of the
Turning Platform Module DSM-PIC must be exchanged by the
delivered PIC „DSM-PIC ROCO“.
Then the Connecting to the Turning Platform Module DSM-PIC
as well as the Connecting to the turning platform of ROCO
have to be carried out.
As the next step, the operation parameters (Settings) of the
Turning Platform Module DSM-PIC for steering the turning platform
of ROCO-have to be set.
After that, the Turning Platform Module DSM-PIC together with the
ROCO-Adapter are operational.

Description of operation
Jumper JP1
The jumper JP1 is used to select the setting for the rotating veloc-
ity of the turning platform:
No jumper V1 Minimal speed
Jumper from 1 to 2 V2 Average speed
Jumper from 2 to 3 V3 High speed
Jumper from 3 to 4 V4 Maximal speed
Solder bridges and sliding contacts
Default mode
In default mode the selection of the outgoing direction of the turn-
ing platform to be powered works as with the turning platform of
Fleischmann, which means e. g. with tumbler switch and keys (or,
if available, with the original Fleischmann turning switch) either one
of the sides (operation house or the other side) is being set under
current.
Set soldering bridges B1 and B2, but leave solder bridges B3
and B4 open.
If you want to power the external connecting tracks, leave the
sliding contacts unchanged. If, on the other hand, the external
connecting tracks are monitored by e.g. occupancy detectors for a
digitally controlled layout, have the sliding contacts bended.
Using the operation house lighting DSM-PIC-M
If the operation house lighting DSM-PIC-M is to be equipped to the
ROCO turning platform, it is to be connected to the bent sliding
contacts of the turning platform.
Set soldering bridges B3 and B4, but leave solder bridges B1
and B2 open.
The lighting is the activated during rotation of the turning platform.
Powering a custom voltage
If the operation house lighting, blocking signals or similar are to be
powered independently of the rotation of the turning platform, an
independent custom voltage can be supplied via terminal X3 to
the turning platform which is then to be taken from the sliding
contacts.
For this mode, none of the solder bridges B1 to B4 must be
set.
Terminal X3
The terminal X3 can be used to bring an independent voltage to
the turning platform. If this option is used, none of the solder
bridges B1 to B4 must be set and the sliding contacts must be
bent.
Connecting to the Turning Platform Module DSM-PIC
The ROCO Adapter DSM-PIC-R is being connected to the Turning
Platform Module DSM-PIC via X2 as shown in the following table,
also see the Connection scheme.

7 Blue X6: grau
8 Lilac X6: gelb
Connecting to the turning platform of ROCO
The turning platform is being connected to the ROCO Adapter via
card slot X1, having same colours of X1 and X2 facing one to one.
If you have the ROCO turning platform in the older version (no
shaft in the protection cap on the downside) then you have to
invert the orientation of the connector by cutting and re-soldering
the wires such that, the colours exactly cross (see picture).
Least required angular shift
To ensure the reliable recognition of the positions, a least required
angular shift of 4,5° is to be respected for all external tracks. This
especially applies for counter-facing external tracks.

Connecting a reed-contact or a Hall sensor (optional)
To mark the initial position (position 1) it is optionally possible to
use a combination of a magnet and a reed-contact or a Hall sen-
sor.
Mounting the magnet under the turning platform
The magnet is to be mounted lengthwise as peripheral as possible
under the turning platform. To do so, disassemble the turning
platform as described in the user manual. E G. at the downside of
the operation house there is space to mount the magnet. You may
use hot glue to fix the magnet there.
Before final fixation it is absolutely mandatory to check if the
magnet works in this position with the used sensor (via
setting 4.1)!
Connecting a Hall sensor as sensor
The Hall sensor is connected to terminal X10 of the Turning Plat-
form Module DSM-PIC and to be fixed under the track that faces
the magnet in initial position.
The Hall sensor only reacts up to a given maximal distance (about
7 to 10 mm) and only for one polarity of the magnet.
That is why before final fixation it is absolutely mandatory to
check if the magnet works together with the Hall sensor (via
setting 4.1)!
The Hall sensor must face the magnet with its flat side. If no reac-
tion of the Hall sensor is seen at minimal distance, either the mag-
net or the Hall sensor must be rotated by 180° (see Assembly
example of Hall sensor and magnet).
For testing purpose the Hall sensor and the magnet are not
required to be mounted at the turning platform. The working
principle can be tested in any suitable location.
Assembly example of Hall sensor and magnet
The Hall sensor can be mounted e.g. directly at the clip, so that it
is not visible from the outside.
Parameters and Programming
As the Turning Platform Module DSM-PIC is being populated with
a dedicated PIC to work with the ROCO-Adapter DSM-PIC-R and
a ROCO turning platform, some modifications and additions
apply for programming. The Address of this module and the
monitoring address remain unchanged, off course.
The programming is still done via the SX-Bus (Programming via
SX-Bus) or via the two push buttons in combination with the posi-
tion display (Programming via push buttons and display), as
described in the User manual of the Turning Platform Module
DSM-PIC.

Define current position as initial position
The chosen value has no effect during normal operation mode. In
programming mode a modification of this setting affects the mod-
ule to number the current position as position 1 (initial position),
even if the setting is immediately undone.

1-Detection, Detection test and auto correction
The 1-Detection defines which external track is interpreted as
initial position (position 1) and how this shall be detected. An acti-
vated 1-Detection can be tested via the detection test and can
further optionally be auto corrected.
This setting remains unchanged with respect to the original version
of the DSM-PIC. Still, the two settings of the 1-Detection via exter-
nal track are unavailable.
Relay steering for outgoing direction
The powering of the left or right track ending of the turning platform
can be controlled via the tumbler switch and a button (or, if avail-
able, via the rotary controller of Fleischmann). This is essential for
conventionally (analogue) powered layouts. For layouts driven
digitally always both endings should be powered.

Sense of rotation
The sense of rotation is set according to the turning platform:
Take into account that a modification of this setting via DSM-PIC-H
will also define the current position as initial position (position 1).
Hence only modify this setting when in initial position.
Key 7 Display Sense of rotation

Number of external tracks
With this setting the number of external tracks is adjusted, up to 40
are possible. This number is calculated as the sum of the actually
existing tracks (see example in the Connection scheme: tracks
1 to 5, 7, 9, 10 and 12) and the positions that arise from being
opposite to those, but do not have a track connected (see example
in the Connection scheme: position 6, 8 and 11).
Thus, only a pair number can be set.

the display hops between „5.0“
and the
currently set number of tracks.
Track of polarity swap
In addition to the number of external tracks, also the track where
the polarity is supposed to swap has to be set. In the Connec-
tion scheme this swap is exemplarily set to be done from track 3 to
track 4, as „3“ is set – or, respectively, re-swapped from track 9 to
track 10. Comprehensively only values up to the half of the total
number of external tracks can be programmed.

Steering the Turning Platform Module
The steering of the Turning Platform Module is done according to
the User manual of the Turning Platform Module DSM-PIC via
the SX-Bus or alternatively via the Turning Platform Controller
DSM-PIC-H.
